Former MLB outfielder Torii Hunter and ex-MLB catcher Kurt Suzuki are expected to interview for the Los Angeles Angels’ managerial opening, per Sam Blum of The Athletic.

The Angels have been heavily rumored to target Albert Pujols for their managerial opening, but Blum reported that team owner Arte Moreno is looking to cast a wider net.

“Albert Pujols is no longer the only contender for the Angels’ managerial opening. The team plans to interview more candidates for the position, a team source told The Athletic,Âchanging course from their initial line of thinking. Pujols remains the favorite for the job, the source said, though owner Arte Moreno has decided he wants a more thorough process.”

In addition, the Angels would like to interview Texas Rangers special assistant Nick Hundley, Chicago Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty and ex-Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde. They’d also potentially like to talk to ex-Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli.

Blum clarified, however, that “it’s unclear if any of those conversations have taken place, or if there’d be mutual interest.”

After a great training camp and preseason, forward Hunter Haight was sent down to the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Iowa Wild.

The Wild had 13 forwards on the roster and Nico Sturm was progressing well and seemed healthy. But on Tuesday the Wild placed Sturm on the Injured Reserve along with Mats Zuccarello.

This opened the door for Haight and the Wild recalled him from the AHL.

Haight, 21, was the Wild’s 47th overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft and played in his first season of professional hockey last year. He recorded 20 goals and 34 points in 67 games for Iowa last year.

The 5-foot-10 center will make his NHL Debut tonight on the road against the St. Louis Blues. He is expecting his parents and his girlfriend to be in attendance on Thursday.

“I feel great,” Haight said. “I feel great coming into here, I think I’m ready and I’m just excited.”

With Sturm out for quite some time, this has opened an opportunity to not only make his NHL debut but to make a name for himself in the NHL.

“Yeah, it’s always an opportunity when you’re here,” Haight said on Wednesday. “I got to take full advantage of it and try and do what I can to help the team out.”

New England Patriots wideout Stefon Diggs’ leadership was praised by teammate Hunter Henry after the Patriots improved to 3-2 with a 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.

“He’s been great,” Henry said regarding Diggs, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “He’s played in this league for a long time, he’s been a great leader, he’s brought a great energy to our offense, but also to that receiver room, to the skill guys, and it was fun to see him in a place he had a lot of success in, to go back in there and have the success he had last night was pretty fun to watch.”

Diggs was stellar in the matchup with Buffalo, hauling in a season-high 10 receptions for 146 yards on 12 targets. He helped New England emerge victorious over a Bills squad that he previously spent time with from 2020-23.

As for Henry, he recorded two catches for 46 yards in the win.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel also brought up Diggs’ leadership while praising the veteran receiver along with quarterback Drake Maye.

“I’m proud of both of them,” Vrabel said after the game, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Being able to emotionally come back here for Stef and being in this thing all week — a really good leader for us.”

Diggs is in the midst of his first season in New England after signing a three-year deal worth $69 million to join the team in March.

The four-time Pro Bowler remained effective throughout his final year with the Bills in 2023, but his 2024 campaign with the Houston Texans was cut short after just eight games due to a torn ACL.

Diggs has gradually looked like his former self this season, catching 29 passes for 359 yards through five games. It’s worth noting that 247 of his receiving yards have come over the past two weeks.

The veteran seems to be making a strong impression on his new teammates both on and off the field.

Deion Sanders Jr. has poured some cold water on information that Eli Manning passed along about Travis Hunter’s practice “lore” when he was playing at Colorado.

According to Manning, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen informed him that Hunter only practiced with the defense and never with the offense during his time with the Buffaloes.

Sanders responded with a post on X, calling it a “lie” and stating that Hunter practiced “equally” on both sides of the ball.

After the Jaguars traded up in the draft to select Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick, details about his practice routine in college came out as the NFL club wanted to put together a plan for the two-way superstar.

The routine reportedly involved Hunter getting three days of practice with both the offense and defense from Wednesday through Friday during the season. He also designated rest days at Colorado on from Sunday through Tuesday each week.

Coen addressed the learning process for the coaching staff as they figured out how to manage Hunter’s workload during mandatory minicamp.

“We saw there was a span where maybe he practiced on offense. Let’s call it a Thursday because we didn’t do anything on the Fridays,” Coen told ESPN’s Michael DiRocco in August. “And then he had Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then Monday, he was on defense. That’s four days without doing anything on offense. Well, we learned that it was too long. That’s too long to kind of go without doing anything on maybe the other side of the ball, so we learned something there.”

Coen said earlier in the summer that the coaching staff needed to make sure that “every minute” Hunter was in the building was “accounted for and trying to make sure that we maximize his time, our time so that we can ultimately get the best outcome.”

Entering the 2024 season at Colorado, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg noted Hunter split his time in meetings and practices with the receivers and defensive backs.

Colorado cornerbacks coach Kevin Mathis told Rittenberg the practice split for Hunter was probably around 70-30 in favor of the defense.

The Jaguars have used Hunter more on offense than defense so far this season. He has played at least 50 percent of the offensive snaps in each of the first five games. His defensive snap count has been under 40 percent in three of the first five games.

Hunter had his best receiving game in Monday’s 31-28 win over the Kansas City Chiefs with 64 yards on three catches. He also recorded two solo tackles and a pass breakup on defense.

Welcome to the NFL highlight reel, Travis Hunter.

While the Jacksonville Jaguars rookie was relatively quiet in his first four games, he turned in multiple highlight plays on a national stage during Monday’s 31-28 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

First, he displayed impressive elusiveness in the open field. Then, he came down with an incredible contested catch on a drive that Trevor Lawrence capped off with a touchdown run.

Social media had plenty of reaction for the rookie, who finished with three catches for 64 yards as a receiver and two tackles and a pass defended as a cornerback:

Hunter is playing on both sides of the ball after winning the Heisman Trophy at Colorado doing just that, so it is reasonable to expect him to not put up video-game like numbers right away. He entered Monday’s contest with 13 catches for 118 yards and zero touchdowns on offense to go with 11 tackles and one pass defended on defense.

The slow start raised some eyebrows, but the Jaguars reportedly weren’t worried.Â

“They’re not that worried about Travis Hunter,” Mike Silver reported during an appearance on the Scoop City podcast with Dianna Russini and James Palmer of The Athletic (37:40:00 mark). “I think this will evolve, and in their mind he is unbelievable in the building, very coachable, great energy.”

Monday’s plays made it perfectly clear why Jacksonville wasn’t particularly worried about a relatively slow start. The talent is there, and it is just a matter of time before it shines through on the field.

The Jaguars gave up a 2026 first-round pick, among other draft assets, to move up to No. 2 and take Hunter in the 2025 draft, so they will surely want more consistency from the Colorado product over the course of his career.

For now, though, they are surely pleased with the highlight plays in a win.

Travis Hunter made a number of incredible plays on his way to the Heisman Trophy last season at Colorado but is yet to do so in the early going of his NFL career.

The Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly aren’t worried about it.

“They’re not that worried about Travis Hunter,” Mike Silver reported during an appearance on the Scoop Citypodcast with Dianna Russini and James Palmer of The Athletic (37:40:00 mark). “I think this will evolve, and in their mind he is unbelievable in the building, very coachable, great energy.”

It needs to be noted that Hunter has played just four NFL games at this point of his career. Any rookie is going to need something of an adjustment period to fully live up to their potential, and he is trying to play wide receiver and cornerback at the sport’s highest level.

That he isn’t dominating yet like he did in college is anything but surprising, and the Jaguars’ reported reaction to his first four games suggests they expected a learning curve as well.

Hunter has 13 catches for 118 yards and zero touchdowns on offense to go with 11 tackles, one pass defended and zero interceptions on defense. The numbers don’t jump off the page, but Silver’s report suggests Jacksonville believes improvement is coming because of his other intangibles.

Eventually, though, the AFC South team will need to see that improvement given how much it gave up to land Hunter.

Jacksonville moved up to the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft by giving up the No. 5 pick, a second-rounder (No. 36), a fourth-rounder (No. 126) and a 2026 first-round pick to the Cleveland Browns, who also sent the Jaguars a fourth-rounder (No. 104) and a sixth-rounder (No. 200).

The additional first-rounder to move up three spots was quite the price to pay, which means there is certainly pressure on Hunter to eventually become a franchise cornerstone for the Jaguars to justify the move.

Yet there is no reason to give up on him just four games into his career.

Travis Hunter has an elite new streaming studio courtesy of EA Sports.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ two-way star teamed up with the gaming company to build a “first-of-its-kind, custom streaming studio” inside his house in Jacksonville.

The studio features three monitors, microphones, cameras and of course a PlayStation 5. It also includes some of Hunter’s framed jerseys, his Heisman Trophy and a handful of other memorabilia from his career.

Hunter has emerged as a star on the football field, but he’s also built a brand off the field as a creator. He has a YouTube channel with more than 500,000 subscribers where he posts vlogs, training videos and more. His Twitch channel, where he streams video games, has more than 100,000 followers.

“Gaming and making content is just what I have been doing my whole life when I am not playing football,” Hunter said. “I’m just being me — and the camera being on lets fans come have fun with me. This setup is going to take my content to the next level, so big thanks to EA SPORTS for being great partners and taking care of me.”

Hunter, who has had a solid start to his NFL career, now has an upgraded space to stream and entertain fans off the field when he’s not entertaining them on the field.
