North Berwick, the beloved links on Scotland’s East Lothian coast, is set to pair its storied course with one of the game’s most influential modern architecture firms.

Beginning in 2026, Gil Hanse and his longtime design partner, Jim Wagner, will serve as the club’s official course architects — a coupling of a world-renowned design team with a layout that has become a touchstone of golf architecture.

Once a sleeper, North Berwick first cracked GOLF’s World Top 100 in 2007 and now sits comfortably in the upper reaches of that list. At just over 6,500 yards, it is short by contemporary standards but long on quirks and coastal charm, featuring a medley of blind shots, dramatic contours and compelling strategic choices further complicated by shifting winds. Among its hallmarks is a closing stretch that includes a collection of widely copied template holes as well as the idiosyncratic 13th, a par-4 known as the Pit, which is spliced at an angle by an ancient stone wall.

Hanse could not immediately be reached for comment, but in a message to members, the club emphasized that his and Wagner’s mandate is refinement, not reinvention. Their appointment comes at a pivotal moment, as the club confronts a challenge as old as links golf itself and increasingly urgent in the modern era: the steady advance of the sea.

North Berwick sits hard along the Firth of Forth, with the water in play on six holes. Historically, the club has fortified portions of the course, including along the 2nd fairway, but other stretches have grown more vulnerable. The 3rd tee is among the concerns. So is the 14th green, where the beach has crept to within roughly six feet of the putting surface. According to the club’s message, Hanse and Wagner will help guide “robust contingency measures to mitigate future risks from the advancing sea,” while preserving the unique elements that have made the course so cherished.

For Hanse and Wagner, the job will add to a bulging portfolio of Top 100 work that includes such original designs as Castle Stuart and Ohoopee Match Club as well as restorations of prestigious courses ranging from Los Angeles Country Club to Oakmont, Merion and Fishers Island.

Florida has hired veteran baseball coach Tom Slater as its associate head coach, the university announced Friday evening. Slater will also serve as acting head coach while longtime skipper Kevin Oâ€Sullivan remains on indefinite personal leave.

“Tom Slater brings a wealth of experience, leadership and deep Gator ties to this role,†Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said in a statement. “With more than three decades in college and professional baseball, including extensive experience in the SEC, heâ€s earned universal respect across the game. Weâ€re excited to welcome him and Beth back to Gainesville.â€

The move fills the vacancy left by former associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Chuck Jeroloman, who departed Thursday to join Tennesseeâ€s staff under new head coach Josh Elander. Jeroloman had been serving as acting head coach since Oâ€Sullivan stepped away earlier this month.

Florida now turns to Slater during a period of uncertainty for one of the nationâ€s premier programs. Neither the university nor Oâ€Sullivan, who has led the Gators since 2008, have provided a timetable for his return. It also remains undecided who will assume the programâ€s recruiting coordinator duties, a pivotal role for a team with several top-100 commitments in its upcoming classes. Jeroloman has long been regarded as one of the sportâ€s elite recruiters, directing Floridaâ€s talent acquisition in recent years.

Slaterâ€s arrival brings a familiar face and a wealth of experience back to Gainesville. He previously served as a Florida assistant in 2004, when the Gators went 43-22 and advanced to an NCAA Super Regional. That year, the team ranked among the SECâ€s top three in runs, batting average and home runs while Slater oversaw the offense and coached third base.

Over nearly four decades in baseball, Slater has worked across college and professional levels, including stops in the SEC, the Southern Conference and multiple major league organizations. Combining his time at Florida and Auburn, he has been part of staffs that reached eight NCAA tournaments, four regional championships, two super regionals and one College World Series.

Slater spent four seasons as Auburnâ€s head coach from 2005 to 2008, compiling a 115-113 overall record and a 43-77 mark in SEC play before resigning after 2008. He previously led his alma mater, VMI, from 2001 to 2003, earning Southern Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2003 after guiding the program to its first winning conference season since 1989.

Slater transitioned to professional baseball coaching in recent years, most recently working in player development with the Phillies from 2024-25 after serving as senior advisor and minor league hitting coordinator for the Marlins from 2021-24.

Florida is hopeful that adding Slater to its staff will provide some stability and experience during a time of transition, though questions about Oâ€Sullivanâ€s future and the programâ€s recruiting leadership remain unresolved.

“I am excited to be back with the Florida Gators,†Slater said in the universityâ€s release. “I look forward to serving and working together with the Gator baseball players and staff.â€

Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) has hired former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers to be president of HBSE Sports, HBSE co-founders Josh Harris and David Blitzer announced.

Myers was brought in with the goal of “maximizing opportunities and bolstering processes” across the firm’s sports portfolio, which includes the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, NHL’s New Jersey Devils, EPL’s Crystal Palace, and an investment in NASCAR’s Joe Gibbs Racing.

Last year, Myers was hired as an advisor to the Harris-owned Washington Commanders during a restructuring that included the hirings of general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. Myers will continue in that role for the Commanders.

“His experience as an architect of championship teams will complement our existing leadership structure, while also allowing HBSE to maximize opportunities across our portfolio,” Harris and Blitzer said in a statement.

Myers was a sports agent for 14 years before he was hired as assistant GM for the Warriors in 2011, a year after Joe Lacob and Peter Guber spent a then-NBA record $450 million for the franchise. He became GM the following year and steered the franchise to six NBA Finals appearances and four wins before leaving the team after the 2022-23 season when his contract expired. The Warriors also opened the Chase Center in 2020. Golden State is the NBA’s most valuable team, worth $11.33 billion in Sportico’s recent NBA rankings.

Myers has served as an NBA analyst and color commentator during the past two seasons.

The 76ers ranked ninth in Sportico’s NBA valuations at $5.61 billion, up 23% versus the prior year. The Devils are No. 11 among NHL teams at $2.06 billion, up 21%. Crystal Palace’s value is $610 million, No. 50 in global soccer. In July, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson acquired a 43% stake in the EPL club.

Jack Draper will work with Andy Murray’s former coach Jamie Delgado in a major change to his team.

The British number one has had a long-standing partnership with James Trotman and, while he will continue to be heavily involved, Delgado takes over as lead coach and will travel with Draper to the majority of tournaments.

A former British Davis Cup player who holds the men’s record for consecutive Wimbledon appearances with 23, Delgado began working with Murray in 2016, initially alongside Ivan Lendl, when the Scot enjoyed the most successful period of his career.

Delgado remained in Murray’s team until the end of the 2021 season and has since coached Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov.

Both players praised the impact of Delgado, 48, and, with Trotman keen to spend more time at home, Draper has moved to secure his services after his long-time partnership with Dimitrov ended last month.

The arrangement will begin in preseason, with Draper currently battling to recover from the left arm problem that has restricted him to only one match since Wimbledon.

Following his second-round exit at the All England Club, Draper was diagnosed with bone bruising, and an attempt to return at the US Open ended with him pulling out ahead of the second round before calling an early end to his season.

That ended the 23-year-old’s hopes of appearing at the ATP Finals for the first time, with Draper slipping to eighth in the rankings during his absence.

He is set to make his return to the court in December’s Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final in London.

Kyle Lowry is joining a new team, without leaving his current team.

Prime Video announced Thursday that it has hired Lowry — the Philadelphia 76ers guard who is about to enter what will be the 20th season of his pro career — as an NBA on Prime analyst. It’s a multiyear deal, with Lowry “making select appearances” this season, Prime said, adding that he will have “increased responsibilities in the future.”

NBA on Prime’s coverage of the league will begin Oct. 24 with a doubleheader, Boston at New York followed by Minnesota at the Lakers. Lowry is expected to have some role that night; the 76ers do not have a game that evening.

“I’m excited to start the next chapter of my basketball journey with the Prime Sports team,” Lowry said. “The talent they’ve assembled is incredible, and together we’ll deliver something fresh and special for basketball fans worldwide. It’s an honor to be part of this from Day One, and I’m committed to sharing the insights I’ve gained from my career through NBA on Prime for years to come.”

Lowry transitioning to television seemed inevitable when his playing days end — whenever that happens. He has enormous popularity among his fellow players, as well as coaches, some of whom have noted that he sees the game differently than many players do. And that ability should serve him well in the new role with Prime Video.

“Kyle’s a throwback,” Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said of his former point guard last year. “You can’t just look at his numbers or his points per game or whatever. It’s the impact that he has on winning.”

The 39-year-old Lowry played his college ball at Villanova before entering the NBA in 2006. He’ll be only the 12th player in NBA history to be in the league for 20 or more seasons and just the second point guard to achieve that feat; Chris Paul, now of the Clippers, played his 20th season last season with San Antonio.

Lowry is a six-time NBA All-Star, won an Olympic gold medal with USA Basketball at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, was part of the Toronto team that won the NBA title in 2019 and has said many times that he will retire — somehow — as part of the Raptors, even if it means only signing a one-day contract to make that a reality.

“We look forward to Kyle’s contributions to our team both this season as an active player and in the future,” said Amina Hussein, Prime’s head of on-air sports talent in the U.S. “His authentic personality and deep understanding of today’s game will offer viewers unique analysis as we deliver NBA coverage that celebrates the game and educates fans around the world.”

Prime Video joins the NBA coverage world this season with the league’s 11-year, $76 billion series of rights deals set to begin.

Amazon will show 66 NBA regular-season games on Prime Video this season, with Thursday night doubleheaders beginning in January, Friday evening doubleheaders, select Saturday afternoon games, and the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game of the NBA Cup in-season tournament.

Prime Video will also show all six games in the play-in tournament, then has part of the league’s playoff coverage as well.
