Last week’s “WWE NXT” concluded with Ethan Page and Chelsea Green celebrating their recent AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship victory – that is, until they were interrupted by Joe Hendry and Thea Hail. Following up on that closing segment, Hendry released a new song accompanied by a music video, parodying Don McLean’s “American Pie” over clips of Hail throwing pie in the faces of the two heels.

“Just one week ago, I can still remember when Ethan had to eat some pie,” the song begins. “And I’m sorry if I made you hurt. I’m just trying to give you free desert so maybe you’d be happy for a while.”

The song goes on to proclaim that Hendry and Hail will win the mixed tag title from Page and Green, along with Hendry cracking jokes at the expense of Green’s husband, Matt Cardona.

Hendry, who seems to be in the midst of a transition from TNA to WWE, has a history of incorporating music into his wrestling character. His popularity exploded last year when his self-recorded TNA entrance music went viral, leading to WWE making heavy use of Hendry as part of the working agreement between the two companies.

The title match pitting Hendry and Hail against Page and Green is scheduled for next week’s Gold Rush edition of “NXT.” Rather than the usual WWE Performance Center locale, the show will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The two-part Gold Rush will also feature a title defense from NXT Women’s North American Champion Blake Monroe, the finals of the WWE Women’s Speed Championship tournament, and a Triple Threat for the TNA Knockouts World Championship.

WWE has seemingly found its female version of Joe Hendry a week before the NXT Gold Rush event.

In the closing segment of tonight’s episode of WWE NXT, newly crowned AAA Mixed Tag Champions Ethan Page and Chelsea Green came out for their “Muy Grande Celebracion.” During the segment, the duo lambasted the fans and locker rooms around the world for not respecting them, and Green mentioned Joe Hendry.

Ethan Page discouraged her from saying Hendry’s name, as he would ruin the moment by appearing; however, after a moment of deliberation, he agreed that they should call him out, expecting him to pop out of the prop cake they had on stage, and they were ready to ambush him when he appeared. Green instructed Alba Fyre to say Hendry’s name, who made a regular entrance.

After an exchange of words between Hendry and Page, the Scottish star challenged Page and Green for their newly won titles. When they asked who his partner would be, he said initially he thought he would keep it a surprise till NXT Gold Rush; however, he decided to reveal the name right then and there.

Joe Hendry Reveals His Partner For WWE NXT Gold Rush

Joe Hendry then asked Ethan Page and Chelsea Green to say his partner’s name, and a slightly modified version of his theme song was played, and it was revealed that Thea Hail would be his partner. Hail popped out of the prop cake and threw a pie in Alba Fyre and Chelsea Green’s face.

Hendry too got into the action and managed to land a pie on Ethan Page’s face, who then scrambled out of the ring. The duo will face Page and Green at NXT Gold Rush, which is scheduled to take place on November 18 and 25.

Joe Hendry and Ethan Page face off in the ring

WWE

Joe Hendry and Thea Hail will be challenging Ethan Page and Chelsea Green for their AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship at “WWE NXT Gold Rush.”Â

In the main event of this week’s “WWE NXT” the pair of Page and Green celebrated their victory on Sunday, having dethrone Mr Iguana and La Hiedra for the titles, adding a first for Green since she lost the Women’s United States title and another for Page who is the currently reigning North American Champion.Â

They took to the ring alongside “Slaygent A” Alba Fyre, with a huge cake left in the middle of it to mark the celebration. From there, they discussed their standing as the best talents in North America and claiming to be the most iconic pairing, and Green went to say Hendry’s name before being cut off by Page.Â

She clarified that she wanted him there so she could rub their success in his face, and Page told her to get it out of the way, so she said it. And thus, as promised, Hendry appeared – though not from the cake like many had expected. He said that he was coming for Page’s title, to which the champion asked if he wanted a shot at the North American title. Hendry said that he wanted the Mixed Tag titles, with Green laughing him down and pointing out the fact he doesn’t have a partner.Â

It was then that Thea Hail was revealed, accompanied with her own Hendry-inspired theme tune, bursting out of the cake and smothering the three of Page, Green, and Fyre in icing alongside Hendry to close the segment and the show.Â

Zach Gowen made an immediate impact in WWE when he debuted in 2003, as the one-legged wrestler worked with some of the top stars of the time. Today, Gowen is still being met by wrestling fans, even if some are mistaking him for a certain Scottish star.

On Facebook, Gowen shared that he was recently spotted by a wrestling fan, though they mistook him for Joe Hendry. When Gowen shared that he wasn’t Hendry, but was indeed a former WWE Superstar, this claim was met with a sarcastic “yeah, right.” Gowen asked his fans if he was ‘cooked’ after both being mistaken and having his history as a WWE Superstar dismissed.

After briefly competing in TNA Wrestling in early 2003, Gowen signed with WWE that year and debuted as a planted fan of Mr. America (a masked Hulk Hogan). Gowen’s support for America/Hogan would put him at odds with Mr. McMahon. Gowen’s time with WWE would also see him share the screen with John Cena, The Big Show, and Brock Lesnar before his release from the company in February 2004.

Gowen appeared on AEW TV in May of this year and shared a spot with Ricochet, proving that fans still recognize the one-legged wrestler. But with his blond hair and positive attitude, this case of mistaken identity proved funny for the ex-Superstar.

Joe Hendry will be refereeing on Tuesday.

TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella announced on social media Sunday that the TNA star will be the special guest referee for the upcoming menâ€s NXT vs. TNA Survivor Series Elimination match that takes place on this Tuesday NXT Showdown. Santinoâ€s announcement came after Joe Hendry on social media shared his reasons for wanting to be part of the Survivor Series elimination matches, pointing out his Royal Rumble and WrestleMania appearances as TNA Champion.

On this Tuesdayâ€s NXT, Jordynne Grace and Hendry were both disappointed to find out that neither team NXT or TNA had any interest in them, with the TNA captains seemingly not sure what team they really supported. After Jordynne Grace asked NXT General Ava to fix the situation on social media, Ava announced that Grace had been named the special guest referee for the womenâ€s Survivor Series elimination match.

Here is the updated lineup for Tuesday’s NXT special:

WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling may be bracing for a ‘Showdown’ on October 7, but that didn’t stop Joe Hendry from headlining a recent live event. The October 4, event took place from the MLK Center in Gainesville, Florida and saw Hendry defeat Cutler James in the closing match of the show.

Hendry’s appearance at the show comes amid the ongoing storyline between WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling. The two sides will collide at the ‘Showdown’ on October 7, which will see multiple interpromotional matches. Hendry hasn’t been announced for a match, but it has been confirmed that he will be making an appearance.

The former TNA World Champion has appeared multiple times for WWE NXT as part of the crossover between the two brands. It has been reported that Hendry is being prepped for a full-time move to WWE, bringing an end to his TNA run. TNA President Carlos Silva has shared that Hendry is still with TNA, despite his many appearances for WWE in 2025.

Outside WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling, Hendry has appeared on WWE’s main roster. The TNA talent was part of the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble match. He also appeared at WrestleMania 41 as the surprise opponent of Randy Orton.

Caught between WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling, it remains to be seen what Hendry’s future holds. For now, the Scottish star remains a key part of both brands ahead of what will be a stacked Showdown event.
