What does Haris Rauf's 6-0 gesture to India fans mean? Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf drew attention on Sunday during the Asia Cup Super Four clash in Dubai against India when he made a provocative ‘6-0†gesture and mimicked a fighter jet toward the crowd. The gestures were in response to Indian fans chanting “Kohli, Kohli†and cheering aggressively against him. What does the ‘6-0†gesture mean? The ‘6-0†gesture refers to a false claim circulating in Pakistan that six Indian Air Force aircraft were allegedly shot down during Operation Sindoor in May. Rauf had also been seen chanting ‘6-0†during Pakistanâ€s training session the day before the match. The gesture was widely criticised online, with fans calling it “disgusting†and inappropriate in a sporting context.

‘Conditions didnâ€t let us score 200’: Salman Ali Agha defends Pakistan after Asia Cup losses

On the field, Raufâ€s performance was mixed. He picked up two wickets, including India captain Suryakumar Yadav for a duck, but was hammered for 18 runs in 11 balls by Indiaâ€s opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. His previous memory of being hit for consecutive sixes by Virat Kohli in the 2022 T20 World Cup seemed to influence his response to the crowdâ€s taunts. Despite the distractions, India maintained control of the game. Sharmaâ€s 74 and Gillâ€s 47 laid the foundation for the chase of 172. Shivam Dube struck with the ball to dismiss key Pakistani batsmen, while Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya guided India to a six-wicket victory with seven balls to spare. Raufâ€s gesture has now become the centre of debate, showing how the heated India-Pakistan rivalry can spill over into symbolic on-field provocations, attracting criticism as much as attention.

In the chase, India got a blockbuster start as Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill racked up a century partnership inside nine overs, bringing the required run rate down to close to six and a half runs per over.

Abhishek stormed to a 24-ball half-century after pulling Shaheen Afridi for a six on the first ball of the chase. Gill made 47 runs off 28 balls, cracking eight fours in his aggressive knock. The duo amassed an opening stand of 105 runs from 9.5 overs.

During this, Abhishek had a verbal battle with Rauf, which got intense and theatric. In Haris†first over, which was inside the powerplay, he had a verbal run-in with Abhishek after getting whacked for a four. On the last ball of the same over, Gill pulled Rauf for a boundary, and Rauf and Abhishek resumed their war of words.

Abhishek could be seen gesturing towards the bowling mark, while Rauf angrily pointed his forefinger towards the Indian opener

The duo was so charged up that umpire Gazi Sohel had to intervene and separate Rauf and Abhishek and prevent the fight from getting bigger. Gill, too, got into the act and joined his batting partner in arguing with the Pakistani paceman.
