Alex Iafallo also scored for Winnipeg.
Adrian Kempke and Mikey Anderson replied for L.A.
Connor Hellebuyck made 29 saves for Winnipeg, while Darcy Kuemper stopped 25 shots for Los Angeles.
Scheifele picked a Josh Morrissey pass out of the air and deflected it past Kuemper to give Winnipeg a 3-2 lead midway through the third period.
Scheifele tied the score 2-2 with 1:03 left in the second. In the tail end of killing a penalty, Morgan Barron stole the puck and fed Scheifele, who raced down the ice and his backhand deflected off Anderson past Kuemper.
The Kings took a 2-1 lead midway through the middle frame. Kempke finished off a pretty three-way passing play with Anze Kopitar and Andrei Kuzmenko at the 9:12 mark.
Anderson knotted the score at 1-1 just 50 seconds into the second period. His screened shot from the point got by Hellebuyck. Drew Doughty and Kempke assisted.
Winnipeg had taken a 1-0 lead into the second period.
Iafallo opened the scoring on the power play early in the first period when he was set up by Kyle Connor alone in front of the net. Gabriel Vilardi also assisted.
Jets: They dominated play in the first period, outshooting L.A. 14-8 and scoring the only goal. After struggling through most of the second, they came back to life in the third.
Kings: After an incredibly slow start, they dominated Winnipeg in the second period, outscoring the Jets 2-1. But they were on the heels in the third, surrendering Winnipegâ€s winning goal.
Scheifele tied the score 2-2 just after killing off a penalty late in the second period to revive the struggling Jets. His backhand got banked in past Kuemper off a defenceman.
Hellebuyck made a number of brilliant saves, especially late, to hold off the Kings.
The Jets will face the Islanders in New York on Monday.
The Kings will play the Wild in Minnesota on Monday.
Cristiano Ronaldo believes he still has gas left in the tank and the passion to compete with the younger players.
The Al Nassr forward, who is the highest scorer in men’s international football with 141 goals in 223 appearances for Portugal, said he is hungry for more despite his family’s insistence that he slows down.
Ronaldo, 40, has scored five goals in six appearances in all competitions for Al Nassr this season and recently became the joint-top goalscorer in World Cup qualifying history when he netted his 39th goal in a triumph against Hungary.
“People, especially my family, say: ‘It’s time for you to stop. You’ve done everything. Why do you want to score a thousand goals?” Ronaldo told Canal 11. “But I don’t think so. I think I’m still producing good things, I’m helping my club and the national team, and why not keep going?
Cristiano Ronaldo admitted he does not have many years left of his playing career, but now is not the time to retire. Abdullah Ahmed/Getty Images
“I’m sure that when I finish, I’ll be fulfilled, because I gave it my all. I know I don’t have many more years, but the few I have, I try to enjoy to the fullest.”
A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo, 40, added another individual accolade to his distinguished career when he received on Tuesday the Prestige award at the Portugal Football Globes.
“It’s not an end-of-career award,” he said. “I see it as recognition of years of effort, dedication, and ambition. I like winning, helping the younger generations-and they also help me maintain my level and continue competing. That’s what excites me: competing with the younger ones. I still have a passion for this.” Ronaldo has not given an indication when he will retire from football.

He signed a new contract with Al Nassr that will see him remain in the Saudi Pro League until June 2027 while he led Portugal to victory at the UEFA Nations League in June.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has scored more than 940 goals in his career.
“I often say to you that if I could, I would only play football for the national team, I wouldn’t play for any other club because it is the culmination and the peak of a football player,” he said. “It’s an honor for me to play for the national team.” The 2026 World Cup will be Ronaldo’s last opportunity to clinch the one major trophy that eludes him but he is just focusing on the task at hand.
Ronaldo and Portugal host Republic of Ireland in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier before taking on Hungary on Oct. 14. “I’m sure the next games will go well and that we will qualify for the World Cup,” Ronaldo said. “Obviously, our goal is to go to the World Cup and win, but we have to take everything step by step.”
LOS ANGELES — Martin Necas scored two goals, Nathan MacKinnon had two assists to become the leading scorer in Avalanche history, and Colorado opened the regular season with a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.
Sam Malinski and Artturi Lehkonen also scored during Coloradoâ€s three-goal second period. Scott Wedgewood made 24 saves during a commanding performance by the Avalanche in their first game back from their disappointing first-round playoff exit to Dallas.
Kevin Fiala scored a power-play goal with 4:53 left for the Kings, who matched the franchise records for victories and points last season before their fourth consecutive first-round playoff loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
Darcy Kuemper stopped 19 shots for Los Angeles, which made only a few changes under new general manager Ken Holland — but the defence-first club looked slow during the Avs’ second period.
Anze Kopitar began his 20th and final NHL season after the Los Angeles captain announced his impending retirement last month.
Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog played in his first season opener since October 2021 and his first regular-season game since March 10, 2022. He missed the past three regular seasons due to multiple knee surgeries, only returning for the playoffs last April.
MacKinnon’s first assist was his 1,016th point in 871 games, pushing him past Joe Sakicâ€s 1,015 points in 870 games for the Avalanche — although Sakic scored an additional 626 points before his Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver.
This game was played exactly 30 years after the Avalanche visited the Forum in Inglewood for their first road game following relocation.
Lehkonen made it 3-0 on a rebound after Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar made a stunning drive to the net. Necas added a power-play goal in the third.
The Kings surprised their fans by wearing a previously unannounced third jersey for the game after warming up in their regular home sweaters. The new jersey is black and silver with the historic crown logo blown up into the main crest.
Avalanche: Host Mammoth on Thursday.
Kings: At Golden Knights on Wednesday.

The Premier League is renowned for delivering late drama, but Saturday’s stoppage-time antics reached new levels.
According to Opta, the eight goals scored in the 90th minute (or later) in Saturday’s games were the most in a single day in the competition’s entire history.
Some of the goals were heartbreaking, some were exhilarating, some were downright comical. Where did each strike rate on the drama scale? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City talisman Haaland had been searching for a goal all afternoon against Burnley, and finally got his moment after some fine buildup play from Jérémy Doku. That no doubt whetted the appetite of the big Norwegian, but more on that later…

Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Welbeck looked like he enjoyed this one, scoring his second goal of the afternoon from close-range and adding some cream to Brighton & Hove Albion’s deserved 3-1 win over a shorthanded Chelsea.
6. Mathias Jensen, 95th minute vs. Manchester United
Stunning, Mathias Jensen 🔥 pic.twitter.com/V9NByk5DIb
— Brentford FC (@BrentfordFC) September 27, 2025
Classic nail-in-the-coffin type stuff from Brentford’s classy midfielder Jensen. Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United side were already having a miserable day at the Gtech Community Stadium; Jensen’s 20-yard blast made it just that tiny bit worse. It’s as if United keeper Altay Bayindir wasn’t even there.
5. Eli Kroupi, 93rd minute vs. Leed United

Leeds thought they had done enough to get the win against Andoni Iraola’s plucky Bournemouth outfit, but the home team made the mistake of giving away a free kick with only seconds to go. Sure enough, after the set-piece was headed across goal, Kroupi was on hand to steer his shot past keeper Karl Darlow and leave Leeds wondering if those two points dropped will be crucial come the end of the season.

Brighton’s second goal in this list but it’s definitely the more important one, with De Cuyper turning in Mats Wieffer‘s nod across goal to give Brighton the lead. Chelsea had grimly hung on with 10 men for most of the second half after Trevoh Chalobah‘s 53rd-minute red card, but the Seagulls would not be denied. Cue raucous scenes in the away end.
3. Erling Haaland, 93rd minute vs. Burnley
Just incredible. pic.twitter.com/SPh7he1aMV
— Manchester City (@ManCity) September 27, 2025
Yes, the fifth goal in a 5-1 rout doesn’t usually rate so high in the drama stakes, but the slapstick defending makes Haaland’s second of the day worth rewatching again and again. Burnley defenders Maxime Estève and Hjalmar Ekdal both jump for the same innocuous high ball 40 yards from their own goal, only to turn it right into the path of the lurking Haaland. And if there’s one player in Premier League history you don’t want to leave with that sort of time and space in front of goal, it’s Haaland. He duly converts, but watch for the remonstrations between the Burnley defence after (and even while) the City striker scores his goal. Remarkable stuff.
The late, late equaliser from Joao Palhinha 🌠pic.twitter.com/smrAIokrBG
— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) September 27, 2025
Heartbreak for Wolves as they were denied their first win of the season after battling so well against Tottenham Hotspur for 93 minutes. Unfortunately for Vitor Pereira’s side, who are languishing in last place in the Premier League, Palhinha stuck a deliciously curled effort from outside the box after some impressive control from Pape Matar Sarr.

The football gods set the scene perfectly at Selhurst Park: defending league champions Liverpool against FA Cup holders Crystal Palace, both teams unbeaten so far this season, and a pinch of transfer spice with Marc Guéhi‘s failed move to the Reds lingering in the background too. Liverpool had done well to fight back from a goal down with Federico Chiesa‘s leveller in the 87th minute, but it would be Palace that would have the last laugh. Nketiah, a youth product of Liverpool’s title rivals Arsenal no less, fired home an unstoppable drive in the 97th minute, assisted by … you guessed it … Marc Guéhi.
Harry Kane scored his 100th goal for Bayern Munich on Friday night, reaching the landmark in just 104 matches to become the fastest player this century to reach 100 goals for a single club.
The England captain was on target twice in a 4-0 home win against Werder Bremen, taking him to three figures and extending Bayernâ€s 100% record after five Bundesliga outings. In doing so Kane has nudged ahead of Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo, who took 105 matches to reach three figures for Manchester City and Real Madrid respectively. The pair had jointly shared the scoring record in Europeâ€s top five leagues but Kane has now gone clear on his own.
Kane, who ended his long association with Tottenham to join Bayern in 2023, is now the 19th player to score 100 goals for the club.
Bayern were already one ahead through Jonathan Tah when he slammed home a penalty on the stroke of half-time – his 18th successful spot-kick from as many attempts. Kane moved from 99 to 100 with a smart finish 20 minutes into the second half, stabbing home after being teed up by Luis DÃaz.
Kane was substituted with 12 minutes to go, denying him the chance of a second straight hat-trick after putting three past Hoffenheim, but Konrad Laimer did pop up to make it four.
In France, Strasbourg missed a chance to go clear at the top of Ligue 1. Liam Roseniorâ€s side were leading Marseille at home until the 78th minute, Abdoul Ouattara with the goal, but ended up with a 2-1 defeat which puts Roberto De Zerbiâ€s side top of the standings for the time being.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbed the equaliser and Michael Amir Murillo completed the turnaround victory as the clock ticked into added time.
