Florio sisters to continue volleyball careers

Senior sisters Morgan Florio and Kirsten Florio announced they will continue their volleyball careers this fall at Division III Morrisville State College on Tuesday, March 28.

Both sisters are extremely happy to continue their careers together at the same school.

“I’m looking forward to spending another four years playing with Kirsten,” said Morgan.

“The same as Morgan,” Kirsten said. “I’m excited to spend another four years with her, but to get to know more people along with her beside me. We’ve met the coaches and some of the players. It’s really great there.”

“The coaches and players were all real welcoming,” Morgan said.

“Everyone was so easy to get along with,” added Kirsten.

The sisters were members of the Hornet Volleyball team for four years, members of the team’s 2015 District IV championship team, and have played travel volleyball during the off-season months to keep their skills sharp.

Both sisters led the Lady Hornets this past season in sets played with Kirsten playing 79 and Morgan playing 77. Kirsten led the team in kills (275), aces (39), blocks (69), was second in points scored (143), and was third on the team in digs (165). Kirsten recorded 586 kills for her career along with 79 aces, 201 blocks, and 316 digs.

Morgan was second in kills (226), was second in points scored (155), second in digs (257), second in assists (123), and third in aces (21). Morgan finished her career with 391 kills, 79 aces, 82 blocks, 534 digs, and 535 assists.

For head coach Sharon Zuchowski, the sisters are the fourth and fifth athletes to continue their careers at the collegiate level.

“They’ve been real big contributors to our program,” said Zuchowski. “They played a really big facor in our District win last year, they were great leaders this year for our team, and they’ve left the team in a good place for next year. I’m very proud and extremely excited that they get to go on and play at the collegiate level. I know they like to play volleyball and I think it’s great they get to play four more years together.”

Florio named to PVCA All-State volleyball team

Senior Kirsten Florio was named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association (PVCA) 2016 All-State team on Wednesday, December 14.

“I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Florio said. “It’s honestly a blessing and means so much. I’ve worked so hard and am so honored to be recognized as part of the All-State volleyball team.”

Florio led the Lady Hornets in multiple stat categories this year including kills (275), aces (39), and blocks (69) to be named to the state list for AA. Florio also recorded 540 kills in three years at the Varsity level, and had a career high (24) against Troy on October 18.

“I am very pleased to see that Kirsten has been recognized as an All-State player,” said Wellsboro head coach Sharon Zuchowski. “The Coaches Association only picks 40-45 girls in the entire state so it speaks volumes of her skill and ability. She has a very bright collegiate career ahead of her.”

Florio sisters named to NTL All-Star team

Senior sisters Kirsten Florio and Morgan Florio were both named to the NTL All-Star volleyball team on Friday, November 11.

Kirsten was named NTL MVP and first team Large School selection as she led the Lady Hornets in kills (275), aces (39), and block (69). She finished here career with 586 kills, 79 aces, and 187 blocks.

Morgan was a second team Large School selection recording 226 kills, 21 aces, 13 blocks, and 257 digs. Morgan finishes her career with391 kills, 79 aces, 67 blocks, and 534 digs.

“I am very pleased Kirsten was selected as the MVP of the NTL,” said head coach Sharon Zuchowski. “There are a lot of good players in this league so it speaks volumes about her ability and skills. Also being named to the District IV AA first team and All-Region First team are just further validation of that talent.

“Morgan is also another good athlete in this league and I am glad she was also selected for post season honors,” continued Zuchowski. “Between both of these young ladies they led our team in most statistical categories. I know they both would like to continue their volleyball careers at the collegiate level and I believe they will be an asset to whatever program they choose.”
