TRENDING RUMORS
– Mohamed Salah’spoor form has Liverpool considering a January move for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, according to the iPaper. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United both scouted the Ghana winger during the last transfer window, but it’s the Reds that are firming as favorites to sign the in-form 25-year-old. The upcoming Africa Cup of Nations may play a big role in whether the mooted £75 million move is made; Salah will lead Egypt at the continental tournament but, with Ghana failing to qualify, Semenyo will be available to play club football throughout the fixture-heavy January period.
– Chelsea are prepared to make an £87m offer to FC Porto for striker Samu Agehowanext summer, according to Record. The Blues had been close to signing the Spain international from Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2024, but the move collapsed and he joined Porto instead. Samu scored 25 goals in his first season in Portugal, and has netted eight goals in nine games so far this term. The 21-year-old has a contract at the Estádio do Dragão until June 2029.
– Stuttgart have set their fee for Angelo Stiller at €50 million with Manchester United among the clubs who have expressed an interest in the midfielder but the 24-year-old’s valuation could still rise, according to Sky Sports Deutschland. While Stiller has a €40m release clause, the Bundesliga club can buy that out and make his transfer fee freely negotiable. Meanwhile, TEAMtalk reports that United are looking to January with their list of options featuring Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham and Porto’s Victor Froholdt. The Red Devils are optimistic that they can reunite coach Ruben Amorim with Hjulmand for £50m despite the 26-year-old’s £70m release clause, with this coming due to Sporting’s relationship with their former manager.

– Sky Sports Deutschland have offered an insight into the domino effect that could happen regarding free agent centre-backs in the summer. A final decision hasn’t been made on David Alaba‘s future but he is likely to leave Real Madrid, while the Saudi Pro League is watching the situation of his teammate Antonio Rüdiger with his future uncertain despite an offer having been tabled for a contract that runs until 2028. Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté could be the replacement if either of them leave, while Marc Guéhi could replace the Frenchman at Anfield but is also wanted by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Dayot Upamecano could also move despite Bayern wanting to extend his contract to 2030.
– Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is weighing up a January loan move with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Brentford all looking at the 20-year-old, according to TEAMtalk. Mainoo remains committed to the Red Devils, but the feeling is that he needs more minutes to aid both his development and ambitions to represent England at the FIFA World Cup. Man United’s lack of depth in midfield has raised questions about whether they will be willing to allow a loan move.
– Barcelona are monitoring Mallorca winger Jan Virgili and could look to re-sign him, as reported by Diario Sport. The 19-year-old left the Blaugrana for €3.5m this summer as he didn’t want to be part of a reserve team any longer, but Barca included a clause that would see them receive a percentage of the funds from his next move and another clause that would allow them to re-sign him. Virgili marked his return from the Under-20 World Cup by providing the assist for Vedat Muriqi‘s equaliser in Mallorca’s win against Sevilla.
EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s Sam Tighe looks at how well Samu Agehowa would fit in at Chelsea:
In the summer of 2024, Samu looked all set for a move to Chelsea, following the conclusion of his gold medal-winning campaign with Spain in the Olympics, but the move fell through and João Félix joined instead.
That’s a series of events that the Blues have likely regretted ever since, as Samu has continued to blossom into one of Europe’s top young strikers at FC Porto — while Félix made minimal impact before being jettisoned to Saudi Arabia.
The Spain international is a powerhouse No. 9, able to bully defenders using his huge frame. Look back at his goals catalogue while on loan at Deportivo Alavés and you’ll see opponents literally bouncing off him and hitting the deck. He can back into centre-backs Romelu Lukaku-style, or hit the channels and stretch the pitch.
His time at Porto has given him useful experience of playing in a dominant team setup, as before all of his football had come for lesser sides who played more reactive football. This would aid a transition to a club like Chelsea, who are quickly developing a “type” that they like up front — Samu, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu are all battering ram centre-forwards.

– Liverpool are set to make contact with Borussia Dortmund over center back Nico Schlotterbeck, Christian Falk reports. Dortmund have offered the 25-year-old a new contract worth around €8m gross per year, but the Reds would be able to go higher and need to cover for Giovanni Leoni‘s injury amid long-term doubts surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konaté, who has been linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid next summer. Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhiis also on Liverpool’s radar, while Bayern Munich could also move for Schlotterbeck.
– Tottenham Hotspur are willing to pay Harry Kane‘s release clause, which sources told ESPN is worth €60 million, and meet the wages required to bring the striker back from Bayern Munich, according to TEAMtalk. The 32-year-old is reportedly keen to return to the Premier League in a bid to chase down Alan Shearer’s league record of 260 goals, having scored 213 himself before moving to Germany. Manchester United also want to sign Kane and view him as a key player for their rebuild, but any chances of signing the England international hinge on improving their league position.

Manchester United are among the English clubs also interested in Upamecano, but the prospect of him staying at Bayern hasn’t been completely ruled out either.
EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s Sam Tighe explores the future for Bayern striker Harry Kane.
When Kane finally sealed his blockbuster move to Bayern Munich in 2023, it only ever felt like “goodbye for now” to the Premier League.
Many assumed he’d be back at some point to chase down Alan Shearer’s record goal tally of 260 — and despite claiming to have never felt more settled in Bavaria, scoring 23 goals in all competitions for club and country as he hits top form, the rumours of a return grow ever stronger.
Kane’s brilliance is built on a natural goal-scoring instinct, pure ball-striking, game intelligence and a frankly incredible level of creativity for a No. 9. None of that will dim with age, so if harnessed correctly — i.e. not in some manic high-pressing system where he’s asked to sprint around — the 32-year-old has plenty of years left at the top.
He’s so good that teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United should be happy to re-wire their entire tactical setup around him, ensuring he has pacy wingers to pick him out with long passes and room to drop deep and receive the ball wherever he wishes.
Typically speaking, you’d be mad to spend €60 million to sign a player who will turn 33 in 2026, but Kane is no typical case.

The 30-year-old is set to enter the final six months of his contract in January and, having not yet signed an extension, multiple clubs across Europe (including Galatasaray and Fenerbahce) are tracking him with a view to getting him to sign a pre-contract agreement. EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s Madrid correspondent Alex Kirkland looks at the likelihood of Real Madrid landing Moisés Caicedo.
Real Madrid’s summer rebuild — signing three defenders in Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras, plus a wide forward in Franco Mastantuono — didn’t include a central midfielder, which for many fans and pundits, should have been top of the list.
So far this season, Xabi Alonso has tended to pick Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde and Arda Guler as his midfield three, with Jude Bellingham coming back into the picture after his recovery from shoulder surgery. The team have mostly played well, but in the two biggest games of Alonso’s tenure so far — the Club World Cup semifinal against PSG, and the derby against Atletico — they’ve come up short, and it’s hard to escape the feeling that, despite the qualities of Tchouameni, Valverde et al, they’re still missing a really dominant, tempo-setting midfielder.
Is Caicedo that player? A contract until 2031 is clearly an issue. Madrid only pay big transfer fees for the most elite prospects, like Bellingham, and that contract duration means a free transfer would be a distant prospect. Here in Madrid, there’s been no reporting yet that Caicedo is a serious target.

– Robert Lewandowski is increasingly likely to leave Barcelona at the end of this season rather than renewing his contract, Diario Sport reports. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering an injury during pre-game warmups, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero added that Richardson suffered an eye injury while “doing band work,” which caused him to be demoted to QB3 behind Daniel Jones and Riley Leonard.
Richardson has been plagued by health issues since Indianapolis selected him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, appearing in just 15 regular-season games across the first two years of his budding career.
He previously suffered a dislocated right pinky in the first quarter of the Colts’ preseason matchup with the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 7. Richardson went on to lose a position battle with Jones ahead of the 2025 season, entering the start of the year as a backup option.
He was limited to a mere four appearances as a rookie in 2023 due to a concussion as well as an AC joint sprain in his shoulder that ultimately required surgery.
Richardson was able to return for the start of his sophomore campaign in 2024, but ended up missing time with an oblique injury before he was later benched for Joe Flacco.
He struggled through the air last season, completing just 47.7 percent of his throws for 1,814 yards and eight touchdowns to go along with 12 interceptions. Richardson also rushed for 499 yards and six scores.
Indianapolis hasn’t been able to consistently rely on Richardson to start his NFL career largely due to injuries, and it appears as though health issues are affecting him once again in 2025.
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs says he wasn’t really side-eyeing Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the photo that went viral.
“That’s my dawg. Obviously, things happened, and business happened, but spent a lot of time here. I got a lot of love and respect for that young man. Tremendous player. He’s one of the boys,” Diggs said Sunday night after the Patriots’ Week 5 upset of the Bills. (h/t WROC-TV’s Thad Brown).
Diggs continued, “They had that picture, right, of me side-eying him, but they just kind of caught it at the wrong time. I just wanted to speak on that photo because I was staring at him in the moment because it was like, ‘Damn, that was my brother.'”
The Patriots shared an edited version of the photo, in which Diggs was initially wearing a Houston Texans uniform, after Sunday night’s 23-20 win.
Diggs spent four seasons with Allen and the Bills from 2020 to 2023 before he was traded to the Texans ahead of the 2024 campaign.

– Manchester United are braced for bids from clubs in Saudi Arabia for captain Bruno Fernandes in January, according to the Manchester Evening News. The outlet’s sources suggest Bruno will be offered more than double his salary from SPL clubs once the transfer window reopens. The 31-year-old was the subject of a reported £100 million bid from Al Hilal back in the summer, which was rejected by Man United. However, after a slow start to the new season, the club could now be keen to cash in on their star midfielder — and use any funds raised to finance an offer for a long-time target.
– Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic is attracting interest from a host of European clubs, according to Bild. Manchester City are said to be among his admirers, as they line up a long-term replacement for 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, while Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen. Pavlovic, 21, has played 12 times for Bayern this season, and is a Germany international with five caps to his name. With a contract that runs until June 2029, he won’t be easy to prise away from the Bundesliga champions.

The England international is keen on securing regular first-team football this season, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon. – Bournemouth value winger Antoine Semenyo around the £80 million mark amid continued interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Football Insider reports. While talk of a January transfer has been played down, the Cherries are braced for bids next summer, following Semenyo’s electric start to the Premier League season. – Inter Miami CF have opened talks with former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilón, so says Fabrizio Romano. The Spain international, who left Spurs in the summer after his contract expired, could move to Miami immediately as a free agent if terms are agreed. FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — If there is a brewing rivalry between Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy, then the Ryder Cup could be a perfect setting for another dramatic duel.
While both star golfers downplayed any animosity between them, DeChambeau and McIlroy also acknowledged that being matched up against each other this week at Bethpage Black would be welcomed.
“Would I love to go up against him? Yeah. It would be a lot of fun,” DeChambeau said Thursday. “Is it going to happen? It’s not likely. I mean, maybe once. You never know.”
“If I come up against Bryson at some point, I think that’s great,” McIlroy said. “I think that’s wonderful for the championship and wonderful for us, as well, in some ways.”
DeChambeau, when asked earlier this year about potentially facing McIlroy in the Ryder Cup after the two were paired in the final round of the Masters Tournament, said that he intended to “chirp in [McIlroy’s] ear” at Bethpage.

McIlroy responded to those comments last month during an interview with the Guardian.
“I think the only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people,” McIlroy told the Guardian. “That is basically what I think of that. To get attention he will mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others.”
When asked about DeChambeau on Thursday, McIlroy joked that he had promised European captain Luke Donald that he would talk only about the European team.
“It’s so easy to play into narratives this week and to get swept up in this whole rivalries and Ryder Cup and whatever it is,” McIlroy said. “All I want to do is go and try and put blue points on the board. I don’t care who it’s against.”
As DeChambeau pointed out, whether it’s in foursomes, four-balls or Sunday singles, there’s no guarantee that the two will face off given the fact that captains select their teams and order ahead of knowing the opponent’s choices.
“I don’t know if there’s planning behind the scenes or whatnot,” DeChambeau said with a smile.
Even if they don’t face off against one another, the fact that DeChambeau and McIlroy are on opposite sides this week is emblematic of the kind of relationship they have had during the sport’s biggest events as of late.
Aside from Scheffler, no two players have performed better in major championships over the past two years than DeChambeau and McIlroy. In the process, their paths haven’t just crossed; they have met each other head-on.
The two finished first and second in the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, where McIlroy’s missed short putts on two of the last three holes and DeChambeau’s miracle bunker shot on 18 gave the LIV Golf star his second major victory.
This year at the Masters, both played in Sunday’s final group. And as McIlroy emerged with the green jacket and the career Grand Slam, DeChambeau was quick to point out that McIlroy did not talk to him the entire round. McIlroy responded that he didn’t know what DeChambeau expected.
On Monday, DeChambeau was asked by Golf Channel if he had a response to McIlroy’s recent comments to the Guardian.
“Whatever Rory says and whatnot is great. He didn’t mean anything by it,” DeChambeau said. “I’m excited. I hope we can have some good banter back and forth and if not, and he wants to do what he’s doing, great, no problem. Crowd’s going to be on our side.”
McIlroy, who is playing in his eighth Ryder Cup, has dealt with an away crowd several times and said he is prepared to manage an environment he doesn’t typically have to deal with.
“I’m very lucky, I get a lot of support pretty much everywhere I go when I play golf, and it’s going to feel a little different for me this week,” McIlroy said. “But that’s to be expected. … I feel at times in the Ryder Cup, I have engaged too much with that, too much with the crowd.
“But then there’s times where I haven’t engaged enough. So it’s really just trying to find the balance of using that energy from the crowd to fuel your performance.”
With competition starting Friday, the crowds on hand at Bethpage so far this week have been rallying around the U.S. team and specifically DeChambeau, who has given them plenty to cheer about.
“I think rivalries are good for the game of golf,” DeChambeau said. “And albeit I have the ultimate respect for Rory as a player. It’s going to be fun to go up against him this week.”
The Red Wings play their second preseason game Thursday when taking on a division rival in the Buffalo Sabres.
The Detroit Red Wings restart their preseason on Thursday with a divisional showdown against the Buffalo Sabres. Before last preseason, these two haven’t faced off in exhibition action since the 2021-22 season. With little history between them, the Red Wings have a 1-1-1 record over their last three exhibition matchups versus Buffalo.
Fans could see some big names take to the ice for the first time this season like in Detroit’s preseason opener on Tuesday when they faced off against the Chicago. The Blackhawks played some of their highest end talent like star center Connor Bedard and 2024 second overall pick Artyom Levshunov.
Detroit is coming off a gutsy win in their preseason opener as they downed the Blackhawks 3-2 thanks to an impressive performance from former seventh round pick Emmitt Finnie, who scored and dished for an assist in a multi-point performance. Other notable names in the win were his linemates in other top prospects for Detroit with Nate Danielson, who also scored, and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, who recorded a pair of assists.

With Detroit playing mostly their prospects in the opener, except for J.T. Compher, Jonatan Berggren and Travis Hamonic, we can expect a more veteran lineup deployed for Thursday’s matchup as Red Wings bench boss Todd McLellan would like to make sure all their routine starters have enough time to get their legs underneath them before the start of the season. Nothing has been said just yet about who’s playing in Thursday’s game but we can expect some notable players that fans won’t want to miss.
“It’s Time”: Dylan Larkin Lays Out Clear Goal For Red Wings
The city of Detroit hasn’t hosted a Stanley Cup Playoff game since April 2016 against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Joe Louis Arena, who at that time were overseen by general manager Steve Yzerman.
Last Sunday, the Red Wings played in their signature split squad game called the Red and White Game in Grand Rapids and led to some impressive performances. Finnie was again a standout after scoring while playing on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. Detroit winger Elmer Söderblom also made his case for the top-line left wing spot, turning heads after scoring twice and impressing during training camp scrimmages while playing on the top unit. The battle for the top-line left wing spot remains one of the key storylines to watch, with no clear frontrunner emerging.
Another position battle heading into the season could be with naming a No. 1 starting goaltender despite the team trading for a former all-star netminder in John Gibson. The former Ducks goaltender appeared in 29 games (28 starts) and posted a lesser record than Talbot at 11‑11‑2 while playing for a weaker team in the Ducks but posted a better goals against average (GAA) at 2.77 and a better save percentage at .912 compared to Talbot’s GAA at 2.93 and his .901 save percentage. Both haven’t seen the ice yet in the preseason as former first round pick Sebastian Cossa took the crease for the opener and will make the decision in net for the Sabres matchup an interesting one.
