Kurt Angle believes Chad Gable has what it takes to be a main eventer in WWE.
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show this week, Angle was asked about the similarities between himself and Gable. Angle responded by speaking very highly of Gable and saying that he believes Gable could definitely be a main event star, even if he is a little undersized.
“I think he’s great. I’m just happy that he was able to find his niche,” Angle said. “I know it’s kind of identical to mine, but if it works for him, I’m happy for him. I think regardless whether he did my character or anybody else’s, I think the kid’s incredibly talented. So I think that he would have succeeded either way.
“You know the problem with him? And I think it’s only because the office looks at him like this, but he’s a little undersized. But that’s not an excuse. Chris Benoit was 5-foot-9. Eddie Guerrero was 5-foot-8. Rey Mysterio’s 5-foot-5. So someone like Chad could definitely be a main eventer.”
Since June, Gable has been sidelined with a shoulder injury that required surgery. He’s the leader of American Made — a WWE faction with The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile — along with originally portraying the El Grande Americano character that is now played by Ludwig Kaiser.
Gable and Angle did have a singles match against each other in 2019, but that was one of the last matches of Angle’s career when he was no longer able to wrestle at his peak.
The 56-year-old Angle told Helwani that he does not watch WWE weekly but still keeps up with the current product. He praised Cody Rhodes & Roman Reigns and said it’s been really cool to see John Cena’s retirement tour.
Angle was asked how he feels Paul “Triple H” Levesque is doing as WWE’s head of creative.
“He’s doing incredibly well. I’m so proud of him. He’s a great leader,” Angle said. “And the thing is, him being retired and out of the business, he really looks at it as, ‘I need to focus on this business and make it the best it can be.’ And he’s done that incredibly well. So I think TKO made the right decision by making him in charge of creative. And I think he’s doing an amazing job.”

WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle has shared his thoughts on the frequent comparisons between himself and WWE Raw superstar Chad Gable. Both men share a decorated amateur wrestling background, with Angle winning Olympic gold in 1996 and Gable competing in the 2012 London Games.
In a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Angle discussed Gable’s talent and the “niche” he has carved out for himself, even if it is “kind of identical” to his own legendary character. During the interview, Angle was asked how he feels about the constant comparisons from fans.
“I think heâ€s great. Iâ€m just happy that he was able to find his niche. I know itâ€s kind of identical to mind. If it works for him, Iâ€m happy for him. I think, regardless of whether he did my character or anyone elseâ€s, I think the kidâ€s incredibly talented. So, I think he would have succeeded either way.â€
Angle also addressed a common critique that has followed Gable throughout his career: his size. The Hall of Famer dismissed the idea that Gable is “undersized” for the main event, pointing to other smaller superstars who have reached the top of the industry.
“You know, I think the problem with him, and I think itâ€s only because the office looks at him like this, but heâ€s a little undersized. But thatâ€s not an excuse. Chris Benoit was five-nine. Eddie Guerrero was five-eight. Rey Mysterio is five-five. So, someone like Chad could certainly be a main eventer.â€
Chad Gable is currently out of action with a legitimate injury. He was last seen on WWE programming in June, when he was written off television after a backstage attack by Penta.

WWE faction The Vision underwent a massive shift last week, with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed seemingly ejecting Seth Rollins from the group via a ferocious beatdown at the end of “WWE Raw.” As a result, it seems likely that both men will take a step up in the company’s hierarchy. Speaking on “Busted Open Radio” in the aftermath of “Raw,” Bully Ray shared his take on whether or not Breakker is ready to become a regular main eventer.
“I never like to see talents jump too far ahead of things, but Bron is one of those very unique talents, so I’m gonna compare him to a couple of guys,” Bully said. “Brock Lesnar. Randy Orton. Kurt Angle.”
Those three performers have more than a few things in common, and Bully believes WWE’s leadership and creative team had a clear idea of what they wanted to do with those wrestlers. He believes the same could be true for Breakker. While there’s a chance that he could stumble and lose the audience, Bully doesn’t think it’s likely in this case, as Breakker has a ton of raw talent.
That being said, Bully showed some hesitation when it comes to the idea of making Breakker one of the company’s top stars right now. One thing that Breakker needs to work on, in Bully’s estimation, is adding some depth to his character.
Though the discussion focused on Breakker, and he was the one who initiated the coup, it’s worth noting that Reed just picked up a victory over Roman Reigns at WWE Crown Jewel days before. Because of that, it seems WWE has significant plans for both Reed and Breakker, and Bully noted that Reed’s Tsunami finisher was used in tandem with Breakker’s spear to put Rollins out of commission.Â
