HAMILTON, N.Y. – After a weeklong hiatus, Lehigh volleyball returned to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon from Cotterell Court on the campus of Colgate University for a matchup against the league-leading Raiders. The Mountain Hawks took a 2-1 lead after capturing sets two and three but ultimately lost to the Raiders in a competitive five-set affair.

Colgate (14-6, 9-0 PL) picked up a 25-17 win in set one over Lehigh (9-9, 3-6 PL), picking up where they left off after defeating the Mountain Hawks 3-0 on October 11. The Raiders hit .429 in the period and held the Mountain Hawks to a .172 hitting percentage. Lehigh managed to pull within four points late a 21-17, but Colgate responded with four unanswered to win the set.

The Raiders got the upper hand early in set two, leading 10-6. However, the Mountain Hawks slowly but surely cut into the Colgate advantage until eventually taking a 14-13 lead. The two teams went back in forth throughout the latter half of the set, but it was Lehigh who found themselves leading by multiple points late. Leading 22-20, the Mountain Hawks ended the set on a 3-1 run to tie the match at one set apiece.

Lehigh put on a dominant display in the third set, winning by a score of 25-12. The Mountain Hawks held the Raiders to a -.214 hitting percentage while hitting a match-best .250 themselves. Despite trailing 10-9 early on, the Mountain Hawks concluded the frame on a 16-2 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

With their backs against the wall, Colgate turned up their level of intensity in the fourth, winning by a score of 25-14 to force a fifth set. The Raiders registered a blistering .500 hitting percentage in the period while holding Lehigh to a match-low .000. Set five was competitive, as Lehigh and Colgate were tied 10-10 with only a few points to go. Despite their best efforts, the Mountain Hawks dropped set five 15-11 to the defending Patriot League champions.

Senior Natalie Luscomb led the way offensively with 12 kills while first-year Mary Massias joined her in double-digits with 11 kills. Junior Alysia Fingall registered nine kills in her first action since September 12. Junior Abby Felkai paced the Mountain Hawks with 21 assists, sophomore Sophia Bond had 16 digs defensively and senior Madison McCartney tallied eight total blocks on the afternoon.

The Raiders were led by Milan Bayless and Tiana Owens with 19 and 16 kills respectively.

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Friday, October 24 at 7 p.m. to take on American University in Washington, D.C.

LOS ANGELES — Jacob Misiorowski held off the Los Angeles Dodgers with 102 mph heat. When he faded, so did the Milwaukee Brewers.

The 6-foot-7 rookie right-hander came out of the bullpen to escape a first-inning jam and struck out nine as the Brewers rallied in a game that remained tied through five innings.

When his velocity dropped in the sixth, Tommy Edman hit a go-ahead single and the Dodgers went on to a 3-1 victory and a 3-0 NL Championship Series lead.

“I think I had a few starts during the year that I felt better, but I felt good,†Misiorowski said. “I did my job and felt like I performed the way they needed me to.â€

Misiorowski debuted in June and went 5-3 with a 4.36 ERA in 14 starts and one relief appearance. Milwaukee has used him three times in relief during the playoffs. He has a 1.50 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 12 innings with three walks.

He threw 17 pitches from 100.1 mph to 102.5 mph from the first through fifth innings, but his fastball ranged from 97.6 mph to 99.1 mph in the sixth.

Will Smith singled with one out on a slider in the middle of the strike zone and Freddie Freeman walked after falling behind 1-2 in the count. Edman, who had struck out twice against Misiorowski, lined a low slider into center on Misiorowskiâ€s 73rd and final pitch. Smith scored for a 2-1 lead as Sal Frelick made a weak throw.

Abner Uribe relieved made a run-scoring error on an errant pickoff attempt.

“We needed him today, and he was there for us,†Brewers third baseman Caleb Durbin said of Misiorowski. “Wish we couldâ€ve had his back a little bit more.â€

MANCHESTER, N.Y. –In a tough midweek outing, Pace University Volleyball came up short in its third road test of the NE10 slate, dropping a 3-0 decision at Saint Anselm College on Wednesday evening (25-22, 25-10, 25-16). The Setters (8-7, 0-4 NE10) fought hard, especially early, but were unable to contain a determined Hawks squad on its home floor.

Pace opened the match with energy, taking advantage of deep defensive work and consistent service pressure. The first set featured multiple lead changes and long rallies as both teams jockeyed for momentum. Behind kills from Skyler Tennant, Cyanna Shirley, and Jaliyah Johnson, the Setters pushed Saint Anselm to the wire. At 22-22, Pace had an opportunity to seize a set, but the Hawks responded with two late points to close it out.

In the second, Saint Anselm gained control through a dominant serving stretch, pulling away while Pace’s offense was forced into tight swings. The Hawks’ pressure on serve and the back line kept the Setters from establishing rhythm, and the home team closed out 25-10 to take a commanding 2–0 lead.

Facing elimination, Pace attempted a push in the third. Off the bench, Keelah Chambliss provided an offensive spark with three kills on five swings (.600), while Tennant continued to make plays all over the floor, finishing the match with six kills and 12 digs. Shirley and Johnson each chipped in four kills, and Kadence Ackmann added five. Up front, Emily Cineus registered three kills along with one solo and one assisted block, and Ileann Alessandra Perez contributed with a block assist.

Despite their efforts, the Setters’ deficit proved too steep to overcome in the third, and Saint Anselm closed the match 3-0. Tennant’s all-around performance led the way, while Shirley, Johnson, Ackmann, Cineus, Perez, Rodriguez, Saulys, and Bender all made contributions in the contest.

Pace returns home to host Saint Michael’s College on Saturday, October 18, at 11:00 a.m. in Pleasantville as the campus celebrates Homecoming Weekend in addition to Pace Goes Pink Day.

Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli in 2027 World Cup? Former West Indies great drops bold prediction Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma of India (Photo by Gareth Copley/Getty Images) Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop has shared his insights on whether Indian cricket veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could feature in the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, while also commenting on Shubman Gill’s captaincy future. Bishop emphasized that the veterans’ participation would depend on their motivation, fitness, and form, while suggesting that Gill requires time to develop as a captain despite showing promise.Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to return to international cricket in the upcoming Australia tour, having been selected for India’s ODI squad following their Champions Trophy victory earlier this year. The future of both players in the 2027 World Cup remains a subject of discussion, considering Rohit would be 40 and Kohli 39 by then.”That’s their decision. I can’t answer that for Rohit or for Virat or for the BCCI. It depends on what their determination and skill are like. They’ve been fine so far,” Bishop told PTI Videos. The discussion also centered around Shubman Gill’s recent appointment as captain, following his leadership in India’s 2-0 Test series victory against the West Indies.”He’ll be fine. Those two guys will help him along the way. He will grow in the job,” Bishop told PTI Videos. “He’s nowhere near the finished article. People have to give him that chance to grow as a captain, and as a batsman, he will grow as well.”Bishop highlighted the importance of having experienced players like Rohit and Kohli to guide Gill through his captaincy journey.”He has the temperament and the skill to lead, but the growth in captaincy and tactics is something that will take a couple of seasons to grow into. I’m sure he’ll get help from the two veterans,” Bishop elaborated. The former West Indies pacer also provided his analysis of the recent Test series between India and West Indies.Despite India’s dominant performance, Bishop identified positive developments for the West Indies team.”From a West Indian perspective, it was great to see a few of the batters spending time at the crease. The trust they showed in the pitch was excellent,” he remarked, specifically mentioning performances by Shai Hope, John Campbell, and Justin Greaves, along with spinner Jomel Warrican.Bishop concluded his observations about the West Indies team saying, “It’s not that they’ve arrived, but they’ve put some building blocks in place.”Both Rohit and Kohli’s experience and leadership will be crucial in mentoring the next generation of Indian cricket leaders, particularly as Gill develops in his new role as captain. The upcoming ODI series in Australia will provide an opportunity for this leadership transition to unfold, with the veterans supporting Gill’s development while maintaining their own performance standards.

The San Francisco 49ers have already been depleted by injuries this season, and another key member of the defense has been lost for the season.

After being carted off in the first quarter of Sunday’s 30-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an air cast on his right leg, linebacker Fred Warner was diagnosed with a dislocated and broken right ankle, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters.

He will need surgery and miss the remainder of the season. On Monday, Warner released a statement to fans on Instagram and included an inspirational quote from Kobe Bryant:

“There’s certain games you wake up knowing it’s gonna be your day, and yesterday was one of those days,” Warner posted on Instagram on Monday. “I knew I was bout to go off, and then boom everything over in one instant that was completely unpreventable. The love everyone has shown me and the prayers being had for me mean the world to me. Some ask why I was able to smile on the cart heading in and it’s because (aside from the shock) I have complete peace in knowing Gods plan is so completely perfect and I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. I’ve had the privilege of being able to have a very healthy 8 seasons and now it’s time to inspire through the comeback I’m bout to have. It will be LEGENDARY and right on time God willing. Thank you guys, love always GO NINERSðŸðŸ¾â¤ï¸”

Warner, who agreed to a three-year, $63 million extension that made him the league’s highest-paid linebacker this offseason, is not only one of the 49ers’ best defensive players, but one of the best players in the entire NFL.

Through five games, the veteran had racked up 50 tackles, two tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. His 28 solo tackles are the fifth-most in the NFL this year. Needless to say, losing Warner for any amount of time would be a huge loss for the 49ers defense.

San Francisco has arguably had the worst injury luck of any team so far this season. The Niners came into Sunday’s matchup missing Nick Bosa, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, Brock Purdy and Ricky Pearsall and more, and a depleted roster has been the story all year.

Yet the 49ers have managed to thrive even with all the injuries. They came into Sunday 4-1, sitting in first place in the NFC West after last week’s overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Much of San Francisco’s success can be attributed to the unexpected breakout of backup quarterback Mac Jones, who came into Sunday having thrown for 905 yards, six touchdowns and an interception in three starts, all of which were wins.

Even if Jones keeps up his tremendous play, losing Warner will be a significant downgrade.

Warner, who has spent his entire eight-year career with the Niners, has missed just one game since coming into the league, and he played through a broken bone in his ankle in 2024.

After previously teasing something from the music studio during the summer, Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young dropped a new song on Saturday.

Young’s single, titled “Where I Stay,” features guest appearances from Georgia-based rappers Quavo and 2 Chainz and was released on YouTube.

There had been hints that Young was working on something recently. The Players’ Tribune released a new video series calledSwitching Stages in which athletes and musicians got together to explore their shared connections.

The first episode featured Young and Quavo, with the former Migos frontman being shown teaching the four-time NBA All-Star how to rap.

Between the song title and some of the lyrics—particularly, the line “A-T-L-A-N-T-A-G-A is where I stay”—might be a pointed message toward Hawks management.

Much has been made about the state of Young’s contract as he enters the final guaranteed season of his current deal and his future with the Hawks. The 27-year-old recently said he’s not necessarily disappointed about the state of his talks with the organization because he’s “happy about the team that we got going into this season.”

The Hawks had one of the best offseasons of any team in the NBA, adding Kristaps Porziņģis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard. They have all the makings of a team capable of being one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

Young, in addition to moonlighting as a rapper now, will be leading the charge in Atlanta. The Hawks will open the regular season at home against the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 22.

Cooper Flaggâ€s official NBA debut is almost here.

Flagg played in his first preseason game on Monday night for the Dallas Mavericks, just months after the franchise selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. While he only played 14 minutes, he helped lead the Mavericks to a 106-89 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

[Yahoo Sports TV is here! Watch live shows and highlights 24/7]

After a bit of a slow start, Flaggâ€s first points of the night came in the second quarter when he sank a wild acrobatic contested layup. He then backed it up with a 3-pointer off the dribble not even a minute later.

Though he wasn’t scoring early, Flagg looked very comfortable out there. He found Dwight Powell for a wide-open dunk after running the point midway through the first.

By halftime, Flagg was up to 10 points and six rebounds after he shot 3-of-6 from the field. The Mavericks broke open a 26-point lead at the break. The Thunder, who beat the Charlotte Hornets in their preseason opener on Sunday, went just 13-of-49 from the field as a group in the first 24 minutes.

While the Thunder rallied in the second half — they outscored Dallas by 10 points in the third, and then opened the fourth quarter on a 21-11 run — it came too late. The Mavericks held on to grab the 17-point win and start the preseason 1-0. Flagg, along with the rest of the Mavericks starters, didn’t return in the second half.

While it doesnâ€t actually count, Monday night marked a critical step for Flagg before he officially begins his NBA career on Oct. 22. Thatâ€s when the Mavericks open their regular season against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.

Flagg dominated at Duke, where he won consensus National Player of the Year honors and helped the Blue Devils reach the Final Four. He averaged 19.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game there, and was long considered the favorite to go No. 1 overall in the draft. The Mavericks, just months after the chaos that came with trading away superstar Luka DonÄić, remarkably won the NBA Draft lottery for the first time in franchise history. They only had a 1.8% chance to do so.

Flagg appeared in just two Summer League games for the Mavericks before the team shut him down. He dropped 31 points in the teamâ€s second game following a very rough start in which he shot just 5-of-21 from the field.

The Mavericks went 39-43 last season, and largely fell apart after the DonÄić trade. They dealt with several significant injuries, including Kyrie Irvingâ€s torn ACL, and the teamâ€s front office dealt with immense blowback as they limped to the finish just a year removed from their first NBA Finals run in more than a decade. Irving is expected to make a mid-season return to the court.

Itâ€s unclear how much the Mavericks will utilize Flagg throughout the preseason. The team has three games left, starting with a matchup with the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. Theyâ€ll wrap up with a game against DonÄić and the Lakers on Oct. 15 in Las Vegas.

But once the season finally gets going later this month and Flagg settles in, expectations in Dallas are sure to be significantly higher after the turmoil the franchise was entrenched in last season. Fair or not, the 18-year-old will play a critical part in getting the team out of it and back to prominence in an already loaded Western Conference.

The Baltimore Ravens were Super Bowl contenders heading into the 2025 season. Right now, even reaching the postseason is starting to look like a long shot.

The Houston Texans dismantled a beat-up Ravens team on Sunday, 44-10, moving Baltimore to a shocking 1-4 record on the season.

Backup quarterback Cooper Rush threw three interceptions in relief of the injured Lamar Jackson, running back Derrick Henry was held to just 33 yards and a touchdown on the ground and the short-handed Baltimore defense allowed C.J. Stroud to throw for 244 yards and four touchdowns.

Given how much the Houston offense had struggled coming into the game, that last stat may be the most stunning of all. And it had fans and pundits alike writing Baltimore’s obituary:

There is a huge caveat in all of this, and it is that the Ravens have been absolutely decimated by injuries on the season. Just look at this injury report coming into today:

Overcoming the Jackson injury alone would be difficult, given how dynamic he is. But the Ravens are missing other hugely impactful players on both sides of the ball.

There are losses, though, and then there are embarrassments, and Sunday was the latter. Injuries are not an excuse to get absolutely shellacked, especially against an offense that has been pretty mediocre for large stretches of the season.

The Ravens have a major uphill climb to return to contender status. Right now, the team just needs to find a way to get a single win.
