Ashes 2025-26:- England batted first after Ben Stokes won the toss in the second Ashes Australia vs England Test. Joe Root scored his first Test century in Australia, reaching 135. He and Jofra Archer added fast runs for the last wicket, taking England past 300. Their stand reached 50 runs in just 29 balls. Archer made 32.
Mitchell Starc was the best bowler for Australia. He took 6 wickets and kept England under pressure. Michael Neser took one wicket.
England ended Day 1 at 325/9.
Australia used an all-pace attack in this pink-ball Test. The ball moved more under the lights and gave their bowlers help. Scott Boland bowled tight spells. Australia missed Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood again. Root batted calmly through tough periods and then attacked later. His century ended his long wait for a hundred in Australia.
Ashes 2025-26: Joe Root Hits His First Test Hundred on Australian Soil in the Second Ashes Australia vs England Test
Root finally scored his first Test century in Australia during the second Australia vs England Ashes Test in Brisbane. He reached the landmark in his 30th innings in the country. England were 5 for 2 when he came in, and he survived an early drop on two. He kept England steady as wickets kept falling at the other end. He reached his hundred with a flick to fine leg and achieved his 40th Test century.
Root had made nine fifties and 900 runs in Australia before this but had never reached three figures. His average in Australia was 33.33, his lowest in any country where he had batted more than twice. This century puts him one behind Ricky Pontingâ€s tally of 41 Test hundreds.
Former captain Alastair Cook called it a brilliant and pressure-heavy innings. Commentator Jonathan Agnew said the knock silenced Rootâ€s critics, including those who questioned if he could be considered an all-time great without a century in Australia.
Root survived lbw reviews on 62 and 73, and a catch that Steve Smith dropped when Root was on two. He adjusted his scoring areas early by avoiding shots behind the point, which usually troubles him in Australia, and focused on playing straight. As the ball softened later, he returned to his usual strokes.
Mitchell Starc Takes Sixth Pink-Ball Five-Wicket Haul in Ashes 2nd Australia vs England Test
Mitchell Starc took a five-wicket haul in the Ashes Australia vs England second Test, giving him a record six five-fors in day-night matches. No other bowler has more than two, showing how dominant he is with the pink ball.
He completed the milestone by dismissing Gus Atkinson. Atkinson tried to flick the ball, top-edged it, and it flew behind the keeper. Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne both chased it, dove together, and Carey caught it just above the ground. The catch was seen as one of the best of the year.
Starc also became the left-arm fast bowler with the most Test wickets, going past Wasim Akramâ€s record. He reached the milestone during Day 1 of the second Ashes Test when he dismissed Harry Brook. Starc achieved this in 102 Tests. He started the Ashes series strongly, taking seven wickets in the first innings and three in the second during the Perth Test.

The Philadelphia Flyers have generally rolled with the same lineup over the last few games, but their latest transaction indicates that may not be the case for long.
On Friday, the Flyers announced that they had recalled forward Carl Grundstrom, acquired in the Ryan Ellis trade, and sent Aleksei Kolosov back to the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
That move comes on the heels of a separate switch that saw goalie Sam Ersson come off injured reserve and center Jacob Gaucher head back to the Phantoms.
The key here, though, is that Gaucher had originally been called up by the Flyers because the team needed a right-shot center.
Grundstrom, 27, is neither a right-shot forward nor a center, and he gives the Flyers 13 forwards on their active roster with Tyson Foerster still on injured reserve.

NHL Insider ‘Can See’ Flyers, Trevor Zegras Contract Extension Talks Starting
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman is beginning to “wonder” about contract extension talks between the Flyers and Trevor Zegras.
The Flyers also, however, have eight defensemen, which is not a particularly common denomination around the NHL.
Grundstrom’s sudden addition to the NHL roster, and replacing Gaucher, especially, has created some questions that will be solved sooner or later.
For instance, eccentric rookie forward Nikita Grebenkin has played fewer than 10 minutes in three of his last five games, and veteran tough guy Nick Deslauriers just played a season-high 10:01 in his sixth appearance of the season in Thursday night’s 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators.
One of Deslauriers or Grebenkin could come out of the lineup for Grundstrom if the Swede is to draw in at some point, especially given that Rodrigo Abols appears to have the fourth-line center role on lock.
And, if and when Foerster does return, the Flyers will need to send another player down to the AHL.

Unheralded Flyers Defenseman Quietly Playing Like One of NHL’s Best
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Cam York has been more dominant this season than anyone had imagined.
Would Grundstrom head back to the Phantoms so soon, sticking around for just a cup of coffee? Or will the Flyers decide they’ve had enough of the eight-defenseman rotation on the blueline?
Adam Ginning has played just one game since Oct. 16, and Emil Andrae appears to have usurped Egor Zamula’s place in the lineup with his transitional skills outweighing his lack of size.
No matter the outcome, the Flyers are almost inevitably heading towards some kind of further change to the lineup and roster, which could some as soon as the end of the weekend.
Although Suryakumar Yadav hasnâ€t been in good form with the bat, he has led Team India in T20Is splendidly. He added another feather to his cap as India sealed the fourth T20I against Australia, taking a 2-1 unassailable lead in the five-match series, which means India cannot lose the series now.
India have bounced back superbly in this IND vs AUS T20I series. After a washout in the first T20I in Canberra, India suffered a four-wicket defeat in the second T20I in Melbourne.
With their backs against the wall and facing a must-win situation, India roared with a five-wicket victory in Hobart in the third game before hammering the hosts by 48 runs in the fourth T20I on Thursday in Brisbane.
India have won all their T20I series since Suryakumar Yadav took over the full-time T20I captaincy after Rohit Sharma retired from the format in mid-2024. And while India will look to win the IND vs AUS series as well, they are assured that they will not concede a series defeat under Suryakumar yet.
This was the 25th win for Suryakumar Yadav as Indiaâ€s T20I captain, excluding the two Super Over wins over Sri Lanka, and have lost only five matches. That is an outstanding record, since his win/loss ratio is now 5!
What record did Suryakumar Yadav break today?
Suryakumar has become the only Indian T20I captain to have a win/loss ratio of 5 or more in T20Is.
For comparison, Rohit Sharmaâ€s win/loss ratio in T20Is as Indiaâ€s skipper was 4.083, earned through 49 wins and 12 defeats. Prior to Rohit, Virat Kohli had a win/loss ratio of 1.875, and MS Dhoniâ€s was even worse, 1.464, though Dhoni did captain India in 72 T20Is, the most, 10 more than Rohit, and 39 more than Suryakumar.
Still, a win/loss ratio of 5 is unbelievable for a captain in T20Is, given the fickle and dynamic nature of the shortest format. This indicates how excellent Suryakumar has been at selections and management despite his form with the bat being dicey this year.
Best win/loss ratio of Indian captains in T20Is (min. 20 matches as captain)
- Suryakumar Yadav – 5
- Rohit Sharma – 4.083
- Virat Kohli – 1.875
- MS Dhoni – 1.464
Hardik Pandya had a win/loss ratio of 2, but he led India in only 16 T20Is.
IND vs AUS: When and where is the 5th T20I between India and Australia?
The India vs Australia 5th T20I will be played on Saturday at the Gabba in Brisbane. India, with their 2-1 lead, will look to win the series, while Australia will be aiming to draw it.

Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio forged an alliance outside his faction, The Judgment Day.
Last Saturday, Dirty Dom defended his other championship, the AAA Mega Championship, against Dragon Lee at AAA’s Heroes Inmortales 2025 in Mexico City. Mysterio pulled another shenanigan by smashing Lee with his left boot and hitting the Frog Splash afterward.
The 28-year-old then got double-teamed by Lee and El Hijo del Vikingo, and he even suffered a legitimate head injury as his left eyebrow was bleeding. Luckily for the WWE star, El Grande Americano evened the odds and took out the supposed babyfaces, who were heavily booed at the Gimnasio OlÃmpico Juan de la Barrera.
After the chaos, Mysterio addressed his heated rivals and let them know that he would team up with Americano against them in a tag-team match. Following the AAA event, it was announced that Dirty Dom and El Grande Americano will go up against Dragon Lee and El Hijo del Vikingo on the November 22nd TV tapings.
¡Vaya apariciones en #HéroesInmortales 😱🤩 pic.twitter.com/HsfxAPoq8s
— Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (@luchalibreaaa) October 26, 2025
This was not the first time that Mysterio and Americano had tagged with each other. Back on the August 11th episode of WWE RAW, the luchadors were able to outlast the duo of Lee and AJ Styles.
CM Punk Reveals a “Dirty” Secret About Dominik Mysterio in WWE
Last week on WWE RAW, Dominik Mysterio had a busy Monday night as he successfully retained his Intercontinental Championship against Rusev. Then, later in the episode, he was involved in the main event, which was a number one contender’s battle royal to determine CM Punk’s opponent for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
During the battle royal, The Second City Saint shared an interesting detail about how the Dirty Dom got his name. Punk sarcastically stated that Mysterio got the moniker “Dirty” in his identity because he doesn’t wash his gear.
You may check it out below:

Eventually, Mysterio was eliminated by Jey Uso, who then went on to win the battle royal for the right to face Punk on November 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
CM Punk shared a special artwork on the occasion of a female WWE star’s birthday.
Punk decided to do something creative for Lyra Valkyria’s birthday on October 23. The Best in the World posted a drawing he made of the Irish wrestler on his Instagram account to mark her 29th birthday. The post immediately went viral, with many appreciating the thoughtful gesture by Punk. His drawing showed he put effort into creating something personal for the WWE star who competes on Monday Night RAW alongside him.
However, since Punk is not an artist and is primarily a wrestler, the drawings weren’t that great; in fact, they barely resembled Valkyria. And the reference image that Punk used was also not her best shot, so this was just a way of him trolling along with wishing her. In the caption, Punk wrote,
@wwe Heard it was your birthday, @real_valkyria so I drew you…I hope you like it! I will always be a @real_valkyria fan!!! 💪ðŸ½ðŸ‘ðŸ¼
Valkyria responded positively to the birthday gift, showing her humor and appreciation for what Punk had done for her on her birthday. She wrote,
I have never looked better.”
Lyra Valkyria’s comment on CM Punk’s Instagram post
There’s an interesting backstory to this moment, as when Valkyria was 18 years old, she was a huge Punk fan. She actually loved him so much that she painted a picture of him, writing, ‘I will always be a CM Punk fan.’

Years later, both of them are working for WWE, with Punk creating artwork for her birthday. It’s kind of a full-circle moment for Valkyria in a way.
CM Punk Nearing Another World Title Opportunity
On the October 13 episode of WWE RAW, Punk beat LA Knight and Jey Uso in a triple-threat match to become the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, just two days after Seth Rollins became the 2025 Crown Jewel Champion. But due to his shoulder injury, which he suffered while delivering the coast-to-coast headbutt to Cody Rhodes, the Visionary had to relinquish the title, leaving Punk without an opponent.
On the October 20 episode of WWE RAW, Uso controversially won a 20-man Battle Royal to challenge Punk on Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1. If Punk emerges victorious, he can finally have a long title run in the company after over a decade, as Rollins, who vowed not to let Punk become the champion, is out of action. It would still be interesting to see how the Brons, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, react to the result of the match, or whether they interfere during the match.
Chamari Athapaththu (PTI Photo) Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Sri Lankan woman cricketer to reach 4,000 ODI runs during her 46-run innings against Bangladesh in the Women’s World Cup 2025.The match took place at DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai where Athapaththu chose to bat first after winning the toss. She opened the innings but was dismissed by Rabeya Khan after scoring 46 runs off 43 balls.Despite not reaching a half-century, the 35-year-old reached the significant 4,000-run mark in ODIs. The next highest run-scorer from Sri Lanka is Shashikala Siriwardene with 2,029 runs, demonstrating Athapaththu’s dominance in women’s cricket.
Women’s World Cup prediction: Greenstone Lobo explains which team has best chance to win
Athapaththu needed just one run before the Bangladesh match to achieve this milestone. She now joins an elite group as the fourth Asian and 20th female batter overall to score 4,000 runs in Women’s ODIs.”HISTORY MADE! A massive congratulations to our trailblazer, Chamari Athapaththu, on becoming the first Sri Lankan and only the fourth Asian batter to cross the 4000 run mark in ODIs! She also now holds the record for the most ODI caps for Sri Lanka!”The match against Bangladesh is crucial for Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign. They must win to stay in contention for the semi-finals.Three teams have already secured their semi-final spots – Australia, South Africa, and England. Five teams are competing for the remaining position: India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.A defeat against Bangladesh would eliminate Sri Lanka from the tournament.
OTTAWA — Good teams survive the loss of their most important player.
The injury appears to have occurred on Monday when Predators captain Roman Josi slammed Tkachuk with a cross-check from behind, causing him to go awkwardly into the boards.
Tkachuk was irate, possibly a telling sign that he knew it was a significant injury right away. He continued playing but didnâ€t in the last nine minutes of the game.
According to Senators head coach Travis Green, Tkachuk will be out “a significant amount of time,†or, more specifically, a minimum of four weeks.
There is still no clarity as to whether Tkachuk broke his hand or wrist on the play, and whether he will need surgery. If surgery is required, recovery could be even longer. Zach Hyman broke his wrist and dislocated it in May and wonâ€t return until November.
“At the end of the day, you canâ€t replace a player like that,†said Drake Batherson, who will make his own return from injury Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres (7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).
You can fill the Canadian Tire Centre with all the clichés about what makes a great captain, and theyâ€d all fit Tkachuk.
The Senators will miss his goal production. Tkachuk has led or been second in goals for the Senators each of the last four seasons, including leading the team last season with 29 goals in just 72 games.
Then thereâ€s the fighting, sheer toughness and the not-fun-to-play-against component he brings to every game.
And theyâ€ll miss his passionate commitment to win: Leadership.
Itâ€s a massive loss, but the Senators have experience to lean on from last season when Tkachuk went down after the 4 Nations Face-Off. The Senators went 5-4-1 from late February to early April, good enough to propel themselves into the playoffs. During that stretch, Tim Stutzle had multiple different linemates, including David Perron, Batherson and even longtime AHLer Angus Crookshank. The Senators, always a stout defensive team, became even more suffocating, with two shutouts while allowing 2.73 goals per game, significantly lower than their season average of 2.93. Defensive, low-event hockey kept the Senators in games.
Ottawa will need to replicate that and more this time around. Luckily for the Senators, the schedule for the next four weeks is light, with only four of their 15 games against teams that made the playoffs last year. There are winnable games that should allow the Senators to pick up points without Tkachuk.Â
Tkachuk’s injury will shift the onus for offensive production onto Stutzle. Who will be his left winger?
The only natural left-winger the Senators have on their roster is Olle Lycksell, who has just one goal in his 46-game career. Not ideal.
Perron and Ridly Greig are the next two left wingers on the depth chart, with Claude Giroux and Fabian Zetterlund as other possibilities. The Senators donâ€t just need someone to step up and fill that spot to Stutzleâ€s left, they also need players on every line to step up their play.
But Green loves his options, and Tkachuk’s injury gives him opportunities to juggle. There are lots of moving parts, and thereâ€s no question Green will have a blender out to try new combinations, as he should.
The next month will be a real litmus test for Zetterlund and Dylan Cozens, neither of whom has yet to match expectations since coming to the Senators before the trade deadline last season.
In Zetterlund’s case, he has been playing on the right side of Stutzle and Tkachuk but is comfortable as a right-shot left winger. He has had great analytics with Stutzle and Tkachuk on the top line, but is still looking for his first point through three games this season after signing a three-year, $12.75-million contract in the off-season. Zetterlund has two goals and five points in 29 games with the Senators, including playoffs. Sometimes stats speak for themselves, but Zetterlund was once a 20-goal scorer with the Sharks, and the Senators are counting on him to do it again.
Similar to Zetterlund, there is a ton of pressure on Cozens to step up without Tkachuk. That was the case even before the injury. So far, heâ€s been fine and produced on the power play, but not at five-on-five. For Ottawa to become a great team, a lot rides on whether Cozens is the 30-goal scorer from three seasons ago or the player who hasnâ€t reached over 20 in any other year. Like with Zetterlund, if Cozens doesnâ€t score much with Tkachuk out, the Senators will be starved for offence.
Maybe Cozens is better as a finishing winger on Stutzleâ€s right side. Shane Pinto, who plays the more important matchups while producing more than Cozens, could slide into the second-line centre role.

Latest episode
Another option in the top six for the Senators is Batherson, who has been a consistent scorer, with three consecutive 60-point seasons.
Interestingly, Batherson hasnâ€t played much with Stutzle over the years, but he did unite with the German in the majority of games when Tkachuk was out last season. When the two were on the ice together last season, the Senators had a 57 per cent expected goals share at five-on-five. It could be time to reunite Ottawaâ€s two most dynamic players with Tkachuk out. Batherson might have the pace and skill to match Stutzle, if he’s fully up to speed after missing the end of the pre-season.
But the obvious solution to filling the hole on Stutzle’s wing could be hiding in plain sight. Giroux could return to the top line, where heâ€s played with Stutzle the past three seasons alongside Tkachuk. The elder statesman has looked as effective this season as last, by analytics and the eye test. The problem with moving Giroux is that this season the third line of Giroux-Pinto-Greig has been the Senators’ best unit. Theyâ€ve contributed three of Ottawaâ€s five five-on-five goals with an expected goals share of 63 per cent. It would be risky to break that group up.
Regardless of how Ottawa tries to make up for Tkachukâ€s absence with scoring by committee, the Senators are in a win-now mode. A regression to missing the playoffs would be a “disappointment,†owner Michael Andlauer has said previously. It’s still only Week 2 but if the Senators free-fall down the standings without Tkachuk, they wonâ€t get the reward of a high first-round draft pick this season due to the punishment for the botched Evgenii Dadonov trade (they were docked their first-round pick). The Senators have zero incentive to tank.
The Panthers could serve as inspiration for the Senators during this next stretch. They’re playing without their captain (Aleksander Barkov) and their Tkachuk (older brother Matthew) and thumped the Senators 6-2 last weekend. Theyâ€re fine. Ottawa is no Florida, but to even come close, the Senators will need to emulate the Panthers. Next man up.Â
Abhishek Sharma has made history by setting a historic milestone by achieving the highest-ever ICC batting ranking in men’s Twenty20 international cricket. He reached a rating of 931 points, and with that, he surpassed Dawid Malanâ€s previous record of 919 set in 2020. Achieving this milestone has put Abhishek ahead of many legendary players like the current Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav (912), Virat Kohli (909), as well as Pakistanâ€s Babar Azam (900).
At the 2025 Asia Cup, Abhishek was named Player of the Tournament, scoring 314 runs at an average of 44.85, including a crucial half-century in the semi-final against Sri Lanka that sealed Indiaâ€s place in the final. He only made his international debut last year but has quickly become Indiaâ€s top T20I batter and now leads the ICC rankings by a wide margin, holding an 82-point gap over Phil Salt in second place.
Other highlights from the rankings update include Sri Lankaâ€s Pathum Nissanka moving up to fifth after 261 tournament runs, while Indiaâ€s Tilak Varma held third. Pakistanâ€s Saim Ayub also created history by becoming the new No.1 T20I all-rounder, ending Hardik Pandyaâ€s reign at the top after taking eight wickets in the Asia Cup.
Abhishek Sharma finished as the highest run-scorer in the Asia Cup 2025
At the 2025 Asia Cup, Sharma set the record for the most runs scored in a single edition of the T20I Asia Cup, accumulating 314 runs in seven innings, and was named Player of the Tournament. In October 2025, he also became the highest-rated T20I player ever, reaching 931 rating points and surpassing Dawid Malanâ€s previous record of 919 points.
Sharmaâ€s Asia Cup 2025 win marked Indiaâ€s ninth Asia Cup title overall and their second in T20Is. His sister, Komal Sharma, who is soon to be married, was emotional after Indiaâ€s victory over Pakistan in the final. She said that she had wished for this as a gift from her brother before her marriage and was proud that he fulfilled it by winning the Player of the Tournament award.
His father, Raj Kumar Sharma, expressed pride, calling the award “a very big thing†and highlighting how the entire team played their part in securing the title. His mother, Manju Sharma, said the whole family and country were proud of him and described the victory as a matter of immense joy.
