Arsenal have been found to have breached FA Cup rules when they hosted Manchester United in the third round of the competition in January.

Mikel Arteta’s side went out at the first hurdle despite Manchester United being reduced to ten men midway through the second half, with Gabriel cancelling out Bruno Fernandes’ opener just two minutes after Diogo Dalot was shown a second yellow card – only for the Gunners to lose on penalties.

However, the sanction has nothing to do with events on the pitch that day, but rather relates to how they sold their away tickets.

An FA statement explained that they had referred Arsenal to the Professional Game Board (PGB) after they were alleged to have breached FA Cup rule 192, which required all home sides to comply with rule 191.

Rule 191 reads as follows: For competition matches other than a semi-final or the Final, the away club shall have the right to claim either:

  • (a) up to 15% of the tickets issued (up to a maximum of 9,000);
  • or (b) if the Ground is not all ticketed, up to 15% the Ground’s maximum capacity, provided that:
    • 191.1. the tickets are for admission to a fully segregated area; and
    • 191.2. the request for the tickets is made within four days of the relevant draw.

Arsenal were thus required to offer the full 9,000 tickets to Manchester United for the occasion.

However, Arsenal are reported to have only allocated 8,000 tickets to visiting fans, claiming the decision had been taken on safety grounds.

The PGB found that Arsenal’s decision put them in breach of rule 192 and has hit them with a suspended £500,000 fine.

The penalty will remain suspended and won’t need to be paid as long as Arsenal confirm they are able to comply with the rules this season and follow through with any home games they face in the FA Cup this season.

The FA Cup third round is set to get under way on the weekend of Saturday, January 10 2026.

Premier League and Championship clubs do not participate in the first or second rounds of the competition, which will be held on the first weekends of November and December, respectively.

Bellamy was on something of a charm offensive when he faced the media before this fixture. There was to be a new and bigger English audience to see what the Welsh public had already witnessed: his evolution from a combustible, confrontational player to a controlled, deep-thinking coach.

This was the sternest examination so far of that new image.

He simmered on the Wembley touchline as he watched his team fold obligingly in the face of torrential English pressure.

Bellamy kept his cool on the surface but did he manage such calm in the changing room too?

“I quite enjoyed half-time,” he said.

“I was like, ‘now we see’. What are we going to do?

“When those moments happen, it shows who you are as a coach. You can come in balling and throwing stuff, but to who? It makes no sense. Me, I’m calm.

“This is a moment we need to relish. It’s not gone well for us, [so] how are we going to do something about it? Now we see who we are. I like those moments.”

Bellamy is clear about how he wants his team to play – pressing high, attacking whenever possible – but acknowledged that, on occasions like this against superior opposition, that will not always be possible.

“I look at England, their physical profile, the speed, the duels. Of course, it helps when you’ve got a lot of players playing in the Champions League, but that’s where you want our players to be,” he said.

“[For] the players, it’s ‘this is where we want to be’. But we also know, we have to be at the top of our game to be able to play against these types of nations.

“On Monday we have to be at the top of our game.”

Pacer Kranti Gaud was the star of the show as India beat Pakistan by 88 runs at the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in Colombo on Sunday.

Gaud not only scored 8 runs with two boundaries off just four deliveries in the first innings but also later returned to torment Pakistan with bowling figures of 3/20 to help India to a second consecutive win of the World Cup.

“It was my first India-Pakistan match. I never read too much into the past and off-field situations,” Gaud said in the post-match press conference.

“I mind my own business. If I have been entrusted to bowl, I just run in and bowl,” she further added when prodded if the player relations between the two teams had deteriorated due to the recent political tensions between the two nations.

The Indian and women’s Pakistan cricket team have shared cordial relations over the years. At the 2022 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the Indians were seen playing with the then Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof’s toddler.

The situation was completely different in Colombo on Sunday with the two teams not shaking hands, a trend which was started by the men’s teams at the recently concluded 2025 Asia Cup.

Despite playing the high pressure India-Pakistan match for the first time in her career, Gaud was ever reliant. He three wickets included opener Sadaf Shamas, the experienced Aliya Riaz, and Natalia Pervaiz.

The wicket of Riaz, in particular, stood out. Back for her second spell after a break, captain Harmanpreet Kaur suggested Gaud to remove the slip cordon. The youngster, however, insisted on having it.

“I requested her [Harmanpreet] to keep the slip for just one more over because I felt I might get a wicket there. And it happened…I did have trust in myself,” said Kranti.

With the overcast conditions aiding pace bowlers in Colombo, Kranti took full advantage to win the Player of the Match award in what was just her career’s second World Cup match.

GB’s Anna Hursey overcame higher-ranked Jieni Shao to set up a clash with world No 4 Kuai Man at the China Smash.

The Welsh youngster (WR 76) stayed on the roll she built up over three qualifying rounds as she came from behind against her Portuguese opponent Shao (WR 56).

It was Shao who made the stronger start, opening up an 8-3 lead and, although Hursey won six points on the spin, Shao found the end-of-game momentum to take it 11-9.

Hursey (pictured above with coach John Murphy) came storming back to take the second 11-5, winning the first three points of the game and pulling steadily clear, and there was a similar pattern in the third, which she led 5-1 and 8-2 and went on to win 11-7.

The start of the fourth was tighter, but Hursey was only behind for one point and four successive points from 6-5 gave her five match points – she only needed two.

Hursey is guaranteed 90 world ranking points for reaching the last 32. Fourth seed and world No 4 Kuai, on home soil, will be a different prospect – but equally will be wary of Hursey’s quality.

The time of the match is yet to be confirmed. Follow the event on the WTT YouTube channel.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. –Pace University Volleyball dropped a tightly contested three-set match to Holy Family University on Saturday afternoon inside the Goldstein Fitness Center. Despite strong offensive and defensive efforts, the Setters came up just short by scores of 23-25, 22-25, and 26-28.

The opening set set the tone for the afternoon as the two teams traded points in a frame that featured five ties and four lead changes. The Setters leaned on the attacking presence of Emily Cineus and Cyanna Shirley, who combined for seven kills in the set. Cineus was particularly effective in the middle, while Shirley added timely swings to keep Pace within striking distance. Despite a late push, the visitors held on to take the first set, 25-23.

The second set played out in a similar fashion, as Pace continued to pressure the Tigers with balanced play. Kadence Ackmann delivered several kills in the frame while also proving a threat from the service line with one of her three aces on the afternoon. Camila Rodriguez kept the offense steady with five assists in the set and added an ace of her own. The Setters battled to the end but fell just short again, 25-22.

The third set proved to be the most dramatic, with the teams pushing into extra points. Cineus continued her standout performance, finishing the match with eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage while also contributing five total blocks. Despite holding opportunities to extend the match, Pace was edged 28-26 in the final frame.

Overall, the Setters finished with 35 kills, 13 service aces, and 12 blocks in what was a hard-fought effort on both sides of the net. Cineus led the way with her efficient hitting and blocking, Ackmann chipped in nine kills and three aces for 12.5 points, and Shirley added six kills and three blocks.

Pace will return to action on Tuesday, when the Setters host Felician University at the Goldstein Fitness Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Pleasantville, N.Y.

blank NEW DELHI: Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons has sent a strong message ahead of Wednesdayâ€s Asia Cup Super Fours showdown against reigning world champions India, insisting that no team, including his ‘Tigersâ€, should be intimidated by the star-studded opposition.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!“Every team has the ability to beat India,†said Simmons, who played for the West Indies in the late 1980s and â€90s. “The game is played on the day. It’s not what India has done before. It’s what happens on Wednesday. It’s what happens during that three and a half hour period. We will try to play as best as we can and hope to find chinks in India’s armoury. That’s the way we win games.â€Bangladesh enter the clash on the back of a morale-boosting victory over Sri Lanka in their first Super Fours match, a rare highlight in a format where they have historically struggled. Simmons wants his team to soak in the electric atmosphere at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, remain focused, and enjoy the challenge.

Can Bangladesh defeat India in the upcoming Asia Cup match?

“Every game, especially games involving India, have a hype because they’re the number one T20 team in the world. There must be a hype. We’re just going to ride on the hype. We’re going to enjoy the moment and enjoy the game,†he said.Assessing conditions, Simmons described the Dubai track as excellent for batting, downplaying the impact of the toss. “I didn’t see much of a difference in the wicket over the 40 overs. The wicket was really good to bat. Bowlers had to bowl properly. I don’t think the toss has that much of an effect,†he said.

Acknowledging the challenges of back-to-back T20 games in the September heat, Simmons praised his squadâ€s preparation. “It is extremely difficult to play back-to-back T20 matches, back-to-back ODIs. But again we are prepared, we have trained really hard. I think the guys are fit enough to handle it,†he added. On strategy, Simmons emphasised consistency over risk-taking in T20 cricket. “Since I’ve been here, we’ve tried to make sure that this is the way we want to play. And we’ve picked the correct players to play that way. And so far, it’s benefitted us.â€Even amidst intense scrutiny and criticism from passionate Bangladeshi fans, Simmons remains unshaken. “As long as I’m confident and my staff and myself, including the captain, are confident in what we’re doing, then criticism is like water off a duck’s back,†he concluded.

Jude Bellingham has been named in Real Madrid’s 23-man squad for their opening UEFA Champions League game of the season against Marseille on Tuesday.

The England midfielder has been absent since July, when he underwent surgery on a persistent shoulder problem which had troubled him since 2023.

Bellingham returned to training last week, and has now been included by coach Xabi Alonso in the squad for Tuesday’s match at the Bernabéu.

“I want to be a bit optimistic, and hope that [Bellingham] can be back before October,” Alonso said on Friday.

“He’s started to do some things with the group, without contact, because we still have to protect the shoulder. But Jude has made a great effort in his recovery … Let’s see if next week he can take steps forward. We’re waiting for him.”

Bellingham had surgery on his left shoulder on July 16, days after Madrid’s participation in the Club World Cup ended when they were eliminated in the semifinals by Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking during the tournament — where he started every game for Madrid — Bellingham said he was “fed up” with discomfort associated with the injury, and wearing protective strapping, saying surgery had “been a long time coming” since first dislocating his shoulder in November 2023.

After the operation, sources told ESPN that Bellingham was expected to be out for between 10 and 12 weeks, which would have meant a return next month, but his recovery is ahead of schedule.

Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was also included in Madrid’s squad, having been unavailable so far this season with an ankle problem.
