Tilak Varma scored 62 off 34 balls and was the lone warrior for the Men-in-Blue. South Africa put India under pressure early by removing Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the powerplay, and continued to strike at regular intervals.

South Africa completed the joint-highest chase in the history of one-day internationals in India as they passed a target of 359 to win by four wickets in Naya Raipur.

Aiden Markram hit 110 from the top of the order, while Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis both made half-centuries as the tourists beat India with four balls to spare.

Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad had both made centuries in the home side’s innings, but having closed on 358-6, they were unable to defend their score as South Africa completed the joint sixth highest chase in the format’s history to level the three-match series at 1-1.

India lost a 20th consecutive toss as KL Rahul’s side were put into bat by their opponents, but would have been confident of victory after Kohli and Gaikwad put on 195 for the third wicket.

Kohli extended his lead at the top of the ODI century scoring charts, making his 53rd hundred in the format having 135 in the first match of the series, while Gaikwad’s 105 was his first three-figure score in 50-over internationals.

Gaikwad was caught by Tony de Zorzi off Marco Jansen, while Kohli was taken by Markram of Lungi Ngidi for 102, before Rahul struck an unbeaten 66 to finish India’s innings strongly.

South Africa lost Quinton de Kock for eight, caught by Washington Sundar off Arshdeep Singh, in the fifth over of their reply, but Markam put on partnerships of 101 with captain Temba Bavuma (46) and 70 with Breetzke (68).

Markram was caught by Gaikward at the end of Harshit Rana’s 30th over, but Brevis arrived at the crease to hit a 34-ball 54.

The 22-year-old was dismissed when he hit Kuldeep Yadav to Yashasvi Jaiswal, before Breetzke and Marco Jansen were dismissed by Prasidh Krishna and Arshdeep in the space of five balls.

But Corbin Bosch steadied South African nerves, striking an unbeaten 29 from 15 balls, including a match-winning four, as his side reached to 362-6 to seal a remarkable victory.

The series concludes in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, before a five-match T20 series.

Cincinnati Bengals star receiver Ja’Marr Chase could be looking at being disciplined by the NFL after an incident with Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey on Sunday.

Chase and Ramsey got into a brief altercation during Sunday’s contest, and it ended with Ramsey throwing a punch at Chase and being ejected. Ramsey said after the game that Chase had spit on him, which spurred the punch.

Though Chase denied spitting on Ramsey, video footage appears to show him doing so.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league will review the incident.

If the NFL finds that Chase did spit on Ramsey, he could be in for a suspension.

Earlier this season, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter spat on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott before the first snap. The NFL would have suspended Carter, but determined that he had essentially already served a one-game suspension since the ejection came so early.

Assuming the NFL follows that standard, it would mean Chase will be suspended one game.

Being without Chase would be a tough break for a 3-7 Bengals squad. Chase is the driving force of the offense, recording 79 receptions for 861 yards and five touchdowns this year.

Taking down the New England Patriots without him would be a tall task.

Former British number one Laura Robson, now working for Sky Sports, mentioned to Salisbury, 33, and Skupski, 35, in a post-match interview that the pair were splitting.

It would mean ending an alliance that lasted for just one season, in which they were runners-up at the French Open and US Open.

Asked if that factor would provide fuel for the final, when they will face opponents they beat in the round-robin stage on Wednesday, Skupski said: “It’s just another match.

“It’s been a long season. It’s going to be a tough match against them boys.

“We’re really looking forward to it. We’re going to have to bring as much energy as possible, even though it’s the last tournament of the year.

“We’ll go out there, give it out best shot and see what happens.”

Cash and Glasspool, the world’s top-ranked doubles team, saved the only break point either team had in the opening set.

An early break in the second set allowed Salisbury and Skupski to haul themselves level and force a match tie-break, in which the crucial moment came when Glasspool netted an overhead to give up a mini-break.

Two match points were saved from 9-6 behind by the top seeds, but Skupski landed a strong first serve on the next opportunity and watched happily as the return landed wide.

Earlier, Patten and Heliovaara beat the all-Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 6-4 6-3 in the first semi-final.

Victory continued a successful year for the former Wimbledon champions, who won the Australian Open in January for their second Grand Slam title together and have added titles in Beijing and Paris.

Patten has already made this a memorable trip to Turin, becoming engaged to girlfriend Ellie last Sunday.

Both teams of finalists have secured substantial winnings already this week, with unbeaten Skupski and Salisbury set to share a total pot of about £730,000 should they lift the trophy.

Patten and Heliovaara – having lost once in the round-robin stage – would collect about £660,000 if they take the title.

‘Last 4 months have been really hard’: Jemimah Rodrigues breaks down after leading India to record run chase against AustraliaIndia’s Jemimah Rodrigues (AP Photo/Rajanish Kakade) It was a night of tears, faith, and redemption for Jemimah Rodrigues. The 25-year-old batter broke down after her unbeaten 127 helped India script a record ODI chase of 339 against Australia in the Womenâ€s World Cup semi-final at the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday.“Firstly, I want to thank Jesus, because I couldn’t do this on my own. I know he carried me through today,†an emotional Jemimah said after being named Player of the Match. “I want to thank my mom, my dad, my coach, and every single person who just believed in me throughout this time. It was really hard these last four months, but it just feels like a dream and it’s not sunk in yet.â€Rodrigues revealed that she got to know she would bat at No.3 only moments before walking out. “I actually did not bat at three. I was still at five while taking a shower. And when the discussion was happening, I just told them, let me know. So just before entering in, I got to know I’m batting at three,†she said. “But it was not for me to prove a point. It was just for me to win this match for India because we’ve always lost in certain situations. And I just wanted to be there to take us through.â€Her unbeaten knock, in partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (89), saw India recover from 59/2 to pull off the highest successful chase in Womenâ€s World Cup history. Amanjot Kaur hit the winning boundary as India sealed victory with nine balls and five wickets to spare.“Today was not about my 50 or my 100. Today was about making India win,†Rodrigues said, her voice cracking. “I was not doing well mentally, going through a lot of anxiety. Then being dropped was rather a challenge for me. But I think all I had to do was show up and God just took care of everything.â€Talking about the closing moments, she added, “I was very tired. I just kept quoting one scripture from the Bible that said, ‘Just stand still and God will fight for youâ€. And I just stood there, and He fought for me.â€Rodrigues credited her teammates for carrying her through the final phase. “When Harman di came, all we spoke was about one partnership. Richa, Deepti, Amanjot — everyone was encouraging me when I felt I couldnâ€t carry on. I canâ€t take credit for anything of this. I know I have done nothing,†she said.As chants of “Jemimah, Jemimah†filled the DY Patil night, the Mumbai girl thanked the crowd for lifting her through every moment. “Navi Mumbai has always been special to me. I would like to thank each and every member who chanted, who shouted, who believed, who cheered. When I was down and out, every run they cheered for pumped me up,†she said.India will now face South Africa in Sundayâ€s final, a clash that will produce a new Womenâ€s World Cup champion.

Women’s World Cup: Jemimah Rodrigues scripts history as India pull off biggest-ever WODI chase to enter finalIndia will take on South Africa in the final on Sunday for a shot at a first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup title (AP Photo/Rajanish Kakade) Navi Mumbai: This has to be right up amongst the finest triumphs in Indian cricket, let alone Indian Womenâ€s cricket.Chasing an imposing target of 339 against the mighty Australia in the second semifinal of the 2025 Womenâ€s ODI World Cup on Thursday at the DY Patil Stadium, India seemed to be sinking slowly when they lost both their openers as pacer Kim Garth scalped Pratika Rawalâ€s replacement Shafali Verma (10), whose much-touted comeback lasted just five balls, and in-form star bat Smriti Mandhana.

Women’s World Cup: Greenstone Lobo predicts India’s chances

However, putting her hand up when it mattered the most, local girl Jemimah Rodrigues played the innings of her life, slamming a brilliant 127 not out (134 balls) to guide India to a memorable, improbable five-wicket win with nine balls to spare. It was her maiden World Cup hundred, and it couldnâ€t have come at a better time.Riding on her fabulous century, India have made it to the final of the World Cup, where they will play South Africa at the same venue on Sunday, hoping to be inspired by this magical feat and finally achieve their dream of winning a World Cup trophy that is just one step away now. Joining forces with Harmanpreet Kaur (89 from 86balls) when India were 59 for two in the 10th over, Rodrigues put on an epic 167-run partnership in 156 balls for the third wicket with her captain, as the 34,651-strong crowd found its voice back.Once Harman was gone, caught superbly by Ashleigh Gardner off Annabel Sutherland in the 36th over, Rodrigues kept the chase going in the company of Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh and finally Amanjot Kaur (15 not out) to take India home. The asking rate was a bit stiff, but Rodrigues added 38 in 34 balls with Deepti, then 46 in 31 balls with Richa, and finally 31* in just 15 balls with Amanjot to seal a famous win for India, which will be remembered for years to come. Steering the biggest chase ever in World Cup history, Rodrigues and the rest of the Indian team showed that this Australian womenâ€s team indeed could be beaten! As soon as Amanjot cut Sophie Molineux for a four to seal Indiaâ€s miraculous win, All the players rushed from the dugout to celebrate the triumph. Harmanpreet and Jemimah shed tears of joy, which was understandable because few gave India a chance against the seven-time and defending world champions. However, miracles do happen. They got the ‘big fish’ early as Healy played a Kranti Goud delivery onto her stumps in the sixth over in overcast conditions. However, their joy was short-lived as, launching a stunning counterattack on the Indian bowlers, Litchfield added 155 with Perry for the second wicket to put Australia on top.

Will India win the World Cup final against South Africa?

The 22-year-old-certainly a generational talent, came into this semifinals with only a fifty in her account, but owned the stage here with her third WODI century. Meanwhile, both the teams wore black armbands to mourn the tragic death of 17-year-old Australian cricketer Ben Austin, who lost his life after being struck on the neck while training in the nets at the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club in Melbourne.

Jemimah Rodrigues hit a remarkable unbeaten century as India completed a record chase to claim a stunning five-wicket win over Australia and reach the Women’s World Cup final.

Set 339 to win after a wonderful hundred from Australia opener Phoebe Litchfield, India held their nerve in a mammoth pursuit, with Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur leading the way with a 167-run stand.

Harmanpreet fell for 89 with 113 still needed but Rodrigues remained, reaching her hundred from 115 balls, and she was there at the end as the highest successful chase in women’s one-day international history was achieved with nine balls to spare.

Rodrigues was in tears as the India players streamed on to the field after Amanjot Kaur hit the winning runs in front of a delirious home crowd to set up a final against South Africa on Sunday.

This game in Navi Mumbai will go down as an instant classic and with the defending champions dumped out, there will be a new name on the trophy this weekend.

It could all have been so different had Australia taken their chances but a missed stumping gave Harmanpreet a life on 10, while the simplest of catches was put down to reprieve Rodrigues on 82.

Australia captain and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy was the guilty party both times with Alana King the unfortunate bowler.

But both batters were ruthless in making the most of their good fortune as they timed the chase to perfection, with Rodrigues showing intent from the off and Harmanpreet gradually building into her innings after the openers fell in the powerplay.

After Harmanpreet’s dismissal, Rodrigues benefited from another dropped catch with Tahlia McGrath letting the ball slip through her fingers from what seemed a straightforward catch at mid-off.

For all that Australia can point to costly errors, it is the brilliance of Rodrigues and an all-time World Cup innings that will live long in the memory.

More to follow.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense is showing signs of life under quarterback Joe Flacco, and with that, it may be near impossible to trade for wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase in fantasy football and rather difficult to acquire his teammate, Tee Higgins, as well.

The Bengals added the 40-year-old via trade from the Cleveland Browns after Jake Browning encountered struggles in place of superstar Joe Burrow, who is reportedly out until at least December with a Grade 3 turf toe injury.

Flacco made his first start last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. The Bengals were shut out in the first half before Flacco led a furious finish, guiding Cincinnati to 18 second-half points in a 27-18 defeat.

Cincinnati kept up the pace on Thursday evening against the Pittsburgh Steelers, defeating the AFC North champions 33-31.

Of note, Chase and Higgins have formed an impressive rapport in a short amount of time with Flacco.

Chase caught 16 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown on a whopping 23 targets. Higgins snagged six passes for 96 yards and another score. He could have crossed 100 yards and scored a second time after catching a long pass late in the fourth quarter with his team down 31-30.

However, Higgins made a shrewd move, sliding down at the Steeler seven-yard line to kill some time before Evan McPherson kicked a 36-yard field goal with seven seconds left for the win.

Chase had a great game the week before against the Packers, catching 10 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown on 12 targets. Higgins had a solid game as well with five receptions for 62 yards on eight targets.

â–¶ï¸ Full Bengals-Packers Recap

In short, Chase looks like the player who was picked as the No. 1 consensus option on fantasy football rankings, per FantasyPros.

He had an uneven start to the season. In Week 2, Chase caught 14 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Week 1 and Weeks 3-4, Chase had 12 receptions, 99 yards and no touchdowns combined.

However, it appears he’s now back to providing elite production on a regular basis. With that, Chase is virtually untouchable at this point. The window to potentially “buy low” on adding Chase when he had a tough stretch from Weeks 1-4 is officially closed. He’s a top-three wide receiver at this point alongside Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams and Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions.

Like Chase, Higgins had a mostly rough start to the year, outside Week 2, when he caught three passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. In Week 1 and Weeks 3-4, Higgins caught seven passes for 80 yards and no scores.

Higgins is the WR2 in this offense and doesn’t see as many targets as Chase. Of note, he hasn’t been targeted more than eight times in a game all season.

However, Higgins has clearly fared better of late with Flacco. In Eric Karabell of ESPN’s latest end-of-season rankings, Higgins ranked 32nd among wide receivers. FantasyPros’ aggregate rankings have Higgins at 34th. He could easily be top 30 after the end of this week’s games if not creeping toward the mid-20s.

Ultimately, Higgins is clearly a WR3/flex option and perhaps not far off from being considered a WR2 in fantasy if the Bengals’ offense stays hot, and that should be kept in mind when considering trades.

Higgins was the 13th-ranked wideout in FantasyPros’ aggregate rankings before the season, after all, and his production of late indicates a potential strong end to 2025.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Lionel Messi captained Inter Miami CF to a 4-0 triumph over Atlanta United FC on Saturday night at Chase Stadium, briefly leaving international duty with the Argentina national team to help clinch the crucial three points for the Herons.

Though he was called up by Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni for the two friendly matches of the October FIFA window against Venezuela and Puerto Rico, Messi instead featured for Miami in the final regular-season Major League Soccer match at Chase Stadium.

Miami will move into its new home, Miami Freedom Park, in 2026.

“It was pretty straightforward yesterday before the game,” Miami coach Javier Mascherano said of Messi’s availability. “I spoke with Scaloni, and he told me he was going to release him, that he wasn’t going to use him. I spoke with Leo about letting him play today; there’s not much more to it. He didn’t intend to play him yesterday; he wanted to see something else. As the coach said, it was his decision.

“Well, we clearly saw the opportunity that, since he didn’t play yesterday against Venezuela, we could use him. Leo was also clearly willing to do so, even though he trained all week with the national team. We know he’s a totally special player; he’s unique, and for us, clearly, even though he didn’t train with us, well, we saw what he did today. So, he helped us win. He scored, which was also important for him.”

Messi scored the first goal of the night, curling the ball into the top left corner for his 25th of the season.

The club captain later set up longtime teammate Jordi Alba for the second goal of the game, as the defender looped a shot over the head of Atlanta goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert in his final regular-season MLS home game.

Alba announced his retirement from football at the end of the 2025 MLS campaign and received a special tribute from Inter Miami following the final whistle Saturday night.

“Well, I think I’ve had a very good career, being in very comfortable teams in all senses,” Alba said after watching a video tribute to him. “This video reflects the truth that the club has been a surprise, nice because I saw several managers of several clubs, some coaches I’ve had throughout my career, and the truth is that it’s been special and, well, proud of everything I’ve achieved.

“Now, to have the last game against Nashville, then the playoffs, and hopefully I can win them, and then I can rest.”

Luis Suárez volleyed in Miami’s third goal of the night in the 61st minute with an exquisite right-footed strike from the top of the penalty area, and Messi added his second in the dying minutes to finish off the scoring.

Messi’s second of the night put him on 26 for the season, two ahead of LAFC striker Denis Bouanga in the race for the MLS Golden Boot.

“At this point in his life isn’t going to change him too much,” Mascherano said of Messi potentially winning the Golden Boot. “But as you can see, if he has it there, he’ll try to get it. So welcome, always with a great night for the team, for him, for everyone.”

Miami teammate Rodrigo De Paul, who featured in Argentina’s friendly win against Venezuela on Friday, celebrated each goal from the sideline alongside La Albiceleste players Leandro Paredes, Nicolás Otamendi and Giovani Lo Celso.

Miami players Telasco Segovia, Noah Allen, Ian Fray and Mateo Silvetti also missed out on Saturday’s action due to international duty.

Messi could rejoin the Argentina national team for the upcoming friendly match Tuesday night against Puerto Rico at Chase Stadium, with Scaloni remaining hopeful of his participation.

“Let’s hope Messi can be there on Tuesday,” Scaloni said Friday. “We’ll see how things unfold in the coming days.”

Miami is tied on points in second place with FC Cincinnati going into the last matchday of the regular season next Saturday. Miami is away to Nashville, while Cincinnati hosts Montreal. The Philadelphia Union have locked up first place in the East as well as the Supporters’ Shield for the most regular-season points.
