Former NHL center Ryan Kesler has been charged with criminal sexual conduct in Michigan, according to court records obtained by multiple outlets.
Kesler pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct Monday in Bloomfield Hills District Court, according to court records.
Kesler posted $50,000 bond and was ordered not to leave the state of Michigan without court permission. His next scheduled court appearance is set for Nov. 6.
Kesler has denied the charges, which were filed last Thursday and stem from an alleged incident on Jan. 1 in Orchard Lake, Michigan, according to court records.
“Ryan emphatically denies the allegations and is completely innocent of the charges,” his attorney Robert Morad told The Athletic on Monday. “As the legal process begins, we ask for respect for his privacy and for the integrity of the judicial system. We are confident, when all the facts and circumstances are presented, that he will be fully exonerated.”
Kesler, 41, has been suspended from his role as a youth hockey coach by the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA). Tom Berry, the president of MAHA, told The Athletic that Kesler also has been suspended from all USA Hockey activities. Kesler was in his third season coaching the Detroit-area Little Caesars AAA Hockey Club 15O Bantam Midget team.
Kesler played parts of 15 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks, appearing in 1,001 regular-season games from 2003 to 2019.
A two-time All-Star, Kesler had 258 goals and 315 assists in his career and won the Selke Award, given to the NHL’s best two-way forward, after the 2010-11 season. The Michigan native also was a member of the United States Olympic teams in 2010 and 2014.

Raja Jackson pleaded not guilty to a count of felony battery that caused serious bodily injury and a count of misdemeanor battery after slamming wrestler Stuart Smith (Syko Stu) to the mat during a KnokX event in Los Angeles in August, per ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
Jackson, the son of former MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, had to be restrained by several other wrestlers after he continued punching a clearly unconscious Smith. He was arrested and bail was set at $50,000.
Per Okamoto, “In a livestream prior to going on, Jackson said he intended to get his revenge on Smith for a brief altercation between the two earlier that day. Smith had hit Jackson with a beer can in an apparent altercation to promote the event.”
Smith said he suffered a head injury, various injuries to his jaw, lost teeth and had a laceration on his lip.
Rampage Jackson condemned his son’s actions on social media in August:
“I thought it was a part of the show,” he wrote at the time. “It was bad judgement, and a work that went wrong. Raja is a MMA fighter not a pro wrestler and had no business involved in an event like this. I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact.”
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office is seeking a sentence of up to seven years.

STAMFORD, Conn. — Multiple criminal charges were dropped Monday against former NBA guard Ben Gordon, who was arrested in 2023 after authorities say he began behaving erratically in a Connecticut juice shop.
Gordon, who helped lead UConn to the NCAA national championship in 2004, completed a probation program approved last year by a state judge. The weapons and threatening charges the basketball star had faced will now be erased from his record.
His lawyer, Darnell Crosland, said Gordon has been dedicated to making progress with his mental health issues since the arrest. Crosland credited the former player with teaching him about how to balance daily stresses of life.
“Mental health is really important and the court saw his commitment to doing the right thing in life and that is why they sealed his record and dismissed all of his charges,” he said in a statement. “I am blessed to have been his lawyer.”
Gordon was arrested at a Stamford juice shop on his 40th birthday, just hours after UConn won its fifth NCAA men’s basketball championship. Police said several 911 callers reported that Gordon was acting aggressively and bizarrely, and he continued to act erratically when officers arrived. Police forced him to the ground and handcuffed him outside the store.
Gordon has talked and written about his bipolar disorder and depression, which he said have played roles in several arrests over the years.
The third overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls, Gordon played 11 seasons in the league. As a rookie for the Bulls, he won the NBA’s Sixth Man Award. After five seasons in Chicago, he went on to play for Detroit, Charlotte and Orlando.
