2008 ALCS: Tampa Bay Rays 3, Boston Red Sox 1
Game 5 of this series featured one of the wildest comebacks in postseason history, with Boston erasing what was a 7-0 deficit in the seventh inning. And the reigning champions tried to do it again, getting two on with one out in the seventh, loading the bases in the eighth and thrice bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth. ‘Twas all for naught, though, as the Rays used five pitchers in the eighth inning alone while repeatedly wriggling out of jams.
2017 World Series: Houston Astros 5, Los Angeles Dodgers 1
Lance McCullers Jr. plunked not one, not two, not three, but four of the first 12 Dodgers he faced. They never made him pay for his lack of control, though, not scoring their lone run until the sixth inning. Meanwhile, Houston racked up five runs within its first 10 batters, chasing Yu Darvish from a game that was over in a hurry.
2020 NLCS: Los Angeles Dodgers 4, Atlanta Braves 3
A tense one for sure, in which Kiké Hernández hit the game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning before Cody Bellinger delivered the go-ahead solo shot in the seventh. After a wild double play at third base in the fourth inning, though, Atlanta’s offense simply vanished, as Blake Treinen, Brusdar Graterol and Julio UrÃas went six hitless innings to close out the game. Yes, one of those hitless ABs was Mookie Betts robbing Freddie Freeman of a home run. But, let’s be frank, the fact that this game was played in a sparsely populated Texas Rangers stadium really mitigated the memorability factor.
2020 ALCS: Tampa Bay Rays 4, Houston Astros 2
Houston almost became the second team to erase a 3-0 series deficit, but couldn’t quite erase what was a 4-0 deficit in this game. They got two men on in the sixth, two more on in the seventh and brought the would-be tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth innings. Alas, they couldn’t quite complete the journey from a 29-31 regular season record to the World Series.
A return to form for Labuschagne would not entirely solve the issues Australia have around their batting line-up for the first Test against England at Perth on 21 November.
He was pushed up to open in his most recent Test – the World Test Championship final defeat by South Africa in which he returned scores of 17 and 22 – but has been batting at his previous position of number three for Queensland.
Were he to return at number three, the position he has scored all of his Test hundreds, Australia would still be looking for at least one opener.
Twenty-year-old Sam Konstas played in West Indies but managed only 50 runs across six innings. Though he scored a century for Australia A in India last month he has not passed 50 in four innings in domestic cricket this season and was dismissed by Scott Boland for a four-ball duck on Wednesday.
Tasmania’s uncapped opener Jake Weatherald, 30, scored a 99-ball 94 on day two of a low-scoring match against Western Australia on Thursday to push his case.
If Labuschagne returned as an opener then it would allow Australia to pick Cameron Green at number three and retain fellow all-rounder Beau Webster in the middle order, though Green only has one fifty in eight innings in that position since being pushed up the order for the Test final against South Africa.
Webster is currently out with an ankle injury but Green is in Australia’s squad for the three-match one-day international series against India which begins on Sunday.
Ishan Kishan (Image credit: X) NEW DELHI: Jharkhand captain Ishan Kishan played a commanding innings to rescue his team from a precarious position, scoring a statement century as the visitors reached 307 for six against Tamil Nadu on day one of the Ranji Trophy season on Wednesday. Kishan, who has lost his place in the Indian side across formats, remained unbeaten on 125 off 183 balls, sharing a crucial unbroken partnership of 150 runs for the seventh wicket with Sahil Raj, who was batting on 64 at stumps.Jharkhand had been struggling and looked in danger of being bowled out for under 200, but the Kishan-Raj stand steadied the innings. For Tamil Nadu, left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh took the early wicket and finished with three scalps, while left-arm spinner DT Chandrasekar, making his Ranji return after a decade, chipped in with two wickets. At the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, defending champions Vidarbha put up a solid total against Nagaland, closing day one at 302 for three. Opener Aman Mokhade anchored the innings with an unbeaten 148, while Dhruv Shorey made 64, and Yash Rathod was unbeaten on 66.In Kanpur, Andhra got off to a strong start against Uttar Pradesh, with opener and wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat scoring a patient 144 off 244 balls, including 13 fours. Number three Shaik Rasheed complemented Bharat with an unbeaten 94, giving Andhra a strong platform at stumps.
Marnus Labuschagne’s push for a recall to Australia’s Test squad for the Ashes received another boost as he hit his third century in four innings for Queensland.
The 31-year-old top-order batter made 105 off 91 balls in his side’s One-Day Cup defeat by Tasmania, just three days after he scored 160 against the same opponents in Australia’s red-ball competition, the Sheffield Shield.
He also scored 130 off 118 in Queensland’s One-Day Cup opener against Victoria in September.
Labuschagne, who has hit 11 centuries in 58 Tests, was dropped from Australia’s Test squad for July’s series against West Indies.
He faces competition from the likes of Travis Head, Sam Konstas and Nathan McSweeney to force his way back into the side, possibly as Usman Khawaja’s opening partner.
Australia left out Labuschagne from their squad for this month’s one-day international series against India, but did call up top-order batter Matthew Renshaw.
Labuschagne has not scored a Test century since July 2023 – a knock of 111 against England – and is averaging just 24.74 in the format since then, but he attributes his upturn in form to stripping his game back to basics.
“I felt good out there,” Labuschagne said after his Shield century against Tasmania.
“I feel like I’ve really stripped it back and my focus is just scoring runs. It’s not really too technical – just what I need out there to score runs.”
The first Ashes Test is scheduled to begin on Friday, 21 November in Perth.
England have already named their squad for the Ashes but the Aussies are not expected to announce their party until closer to the first Test.
In recent times, England batsman Joe Root has taken giant strides towards the summit of Test cricket: Root has scored 13543 runs in Test cricket, sitting only 2378 runs behind Sachin Tendulkar.
Aged 34 and in the prime of his career for the last five years—since the start of 2020, Root has amassed 6184 runs at an average of 55—Root has a very plausible chance of eclipsing Tendulkar to go to the top of the runs chart in Test cricket and become the first batsman to reach 16000 Test runs.
Having made his Test debut in 2012, Joe Root has performed exceedingly against all oppositions: he averages over 40 and has at least two centuries against the teams heâ€s played a minimum of five Test matches.
At home, in England, Root averages 55, and his away average of 47 is also remarkable given batting in Test cricket has been challenging across the world since the ICC World Test Championship began in 2019.
In fact, Root has been outstanding in all countries away from home, except one: Australia. He averages between 45 and 66 in India, Pakistan, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, the UAE, South Africa, and New Zealand.
However, his record in the away Ashes in Australia is ordinary, belying his immense talent and reputation as Englandâ€s greatest Test batsman.
England are riding on the Bazball wave since Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum joined hands in 2022, and they have infused a breath of fresh air into Rootâ€s career as well.
Therefore, the upcoming Ashes 2025-26 series, which will begin in Perth on November 21, is as significant for Joe Root as it is for Stokes†England team, who, for the first time since 2010/11, have a real chance at winning an Ashes series in Australia.
Has Joe Root Hit Century In Australia In Test Cricket?
No, despite playing 14 Tests (22 innings), Joe Root has not managed a single Test century in Australia. Rootâ€s highest score in Australia is 89, which he made in Brisbane in the 2021/22 Ashes.
Ashes 2025/26: Joe Rootâ€s stats in Australia in Test:
Root has an ordinary Ashes record in Australia. In 22 innings of 14 Tests down under, Root has scored 892 runs at an average of 35, far below his career average of 51. Heâ€s managed 9 fifties but failed to convert any of them into a hundred.
Root is 34, and will turn 35 on December 30, which is the scheduled day 5 of the fourth Ashes Test. By the time the next away Ashes rolls over, Root will be around the age of 38 and approaching his 39th birthday and is unlikely to be playing at the highest level.
It means that the Ashes 2025/26 is almost certain to be the last Ashes series in Australia for Root. And he would desperately want to improve his stats in Australia in Test cricket, especially one major blip on his career: zero Test centuries in Australia.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi (PTI Photo/Shailendra Bhojak) Vaibhav Suryavanshi is turning heads again, this time on Australian soil. The 14-year-old prodigy smashed a brilliant century in the first Youth Test against Australia U-19, reaching 100 in just 78 balls and finishing with 113 off 86 balls. His innings featured nine fours and eight sixes, and he shared a solid 152-run partnership with Vedant Trivedi. Captain Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for 21, while Vihaan Malhotra fell for 6. Vaibhavâ€s innings came to an end when he was caught by Alex Lee Young off Hayden Schillerâ€s bowling. The young Indian star has already made a name for himself across formats. In the Youth ODI series, he broke the record for the most career sixes in Youth ODI cricket, surpassing Unmukt Chandâ€s previous mark of 38 maximums during Indiaâ€s second 50-over clash against Australia at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane. Vaibhav first drew attention in domestic cricket during the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, making his first-class debut at just 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai, becoming the youngest player in the tournamentâ€s history. His rise continued when he became the youngest player to earn an IPL contract, signed by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 auction at the age of 13. In the IPL, Vaibhav lit up the tournament with a sensational 38-ball 101, smashing records along the way. His 35-ball century is the second-fastest in IPL history, after Chris Gayleâ€s 30-ball blitz for RCB in 2013, and the fastest by an Indian. From domestic cricket to international youth tests and the IPL, Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to rewrite the record books, proving that age is no barrier to greatness.
The T20 Asia Cup was played for the first time in 2016, right ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. With the T20 World Cup becoming a regular event – generally happening every two years – and perhaps more with the desire to contrive India vs Pakistan matches since bilateral cricket is suspended between the two nations, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) began conducting the Asia Cup in the T20I format as well since 2016.
India won the inaugural T20 Asia Cup in 2016, while Sri Lanka won the 2022 edition. The third T20 Asia Cup edition was held in 2025, just months ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Three batsmen have so far hit a hundred each in the T20 Asia Cup. Let us check them.
List Of Batsmen Who Hit Century In T20 Asia Cup Ft. Virat Kohli
122 – Babar Hayat (Hong Kong) vs Oman, Fatullah, 2016
Hong Kongâ€s middle-order batsman Babar Hayat became the first batsman to hit a century in the T20 Asia Cup with his knock of 122 against Oman during the 2016 Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
Chasing a target of 181 in Fatullah, Hayat whacked 122 runs off 60 balls, with the help of nine fours and seven sixes. Despite Babar Hayatâ€s terrific ton, Hong Kong lost by a small margin of five runs.
122* – Virat Kohli (India) vs Afghanistan, Dubai, 2022
Virat Kohli is the only Indian so far to have hit a century in the T20 version of the Asia Cup. He attained it against Afghanistan in Dubai in 2022.
While opening the batting, with Rohit Sharma rested, Kohli hammered 122 unbeaten runs off 61 balls, walloping 12 fours and six maximums. Kohliâ€s thumping knock propelled India to a huge total of 212 runs. In the chase, Afghanistan were blown away by Bhuvneshwar Kumarâ€s unbelievable spell of 4-1-4-5.
This was Virat Kohliâ€s maiden century in T20Is, and it also ended his wait of three years for his 71st international century.
107 – Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka) vs India, Dubai, 2025
Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka creamed one of the best T20I centuries during the 2025 edition of the T20 Asia Cup, as he dazzled with a knock of 107 runs against India in Dubai in the pursuit of the target of 203 runs.
Nissanka exhilarated with plenty of delectable shots, comprising seven fours and six sixes. He had a tall stand of 127 (70) with Kusal Perera, putting Sri Lanka in a strong position.
However, India fought back with the ball and managed to tie the game. In the Super Over, the Lankans could muster only two runs against Arshdeep Singh, and the minnows once again lost to the powerhouse Indian side, with Nissankaâ€s outstanding ton going in vain.
