Juniors Ryann Adams and Caitlyn Callahan both reached career milestones during the end of volleyball season.
Callahan recorded her 500th career kill in the Lady Hornets’ final regular season game against Sayre back on October 25. Adams recorded her 500th career dig in the District IV championship game against North Penn-Liberty on November 1. On Monday, November 5 both were recognized with commemorative balls by head coach Sharon Zuchowski.
Callahan finished the season with 318 kills (average of 15.14 kills per game), giving her 529. Adams recorded 267 digs this season (average of 12.71 digs per game), to give her 502.
“It really means a lot knowing my team was behind me and putting in work in the off-season, both in the weight room or during the club season, it just paid off,” Adams said.
Callahan shared that sentiment.
“It’s a great accomplishment to get 500 kills. My team was always there and did whatever the could to get me the ball so that I could score. And knowing that I had them there made me confident, and with everyone supporting me from this season to the off-season to club, it was really nice.”
Callahan has been after the 500 kill milestone since the season started.
“Right when we started the season I was like ‘this year is the year that I’m getting number 500.’ I really tried for it.”
Adams on the other hand didn’t know how close she was.
“I didn’t even know until my teammates told me about it, just proving they were behind me even more than I thought.”
In the 7 years Zuchowski has been coaching this is her third player to reach 500 career kills. Callahan joins Zuchowski’s oldest daughter, Hannah Zuchowski (979), and Kirsten Florio (540). Adams, however, is her first libero to accumulate 500 digs.
“I’m very proud of both of them. They both worked very hard this year,” Zuchowski said. “You can tell their time in the off-season has given them results in our regular season and I hope they continue.”
Zuchowski monitored both milestones as the season progressed.
“I knew Ryann was close but we were in a district match and they don’t like to stop the game and acknowledge that. And I don’t the stats during the game so I didn’t know if she was close or she actually surpassed it, but I confirmed it after the game. For Caitlyn we knew what she needed going into and we did our best efforts to get it for her in the regular season. Either way they worked hard this season and I’m glad they both hit their respective milestones.”
Both girls will return for their senior seasons in 2019.

Senior Cheyenne Sherman announced on Monday, April 9 that she is continuing her volleyball career this coming fall at Penn State-Beaver.
Penn State-Beaver competes in the Penn State University Conference as part of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Penn State-Beaver is a small campus with an enrollment of 1,000 students, which reminded Sherman of Wellsboro.
“I’ve been there a couple of times and really love the campus and the coach,” Sherman said. “It’s very small and you can see everything, which I like, like Wellsboro.”
In her last two years Sherman has compiled 235 kills, scored 293 points with 62 aces, 25 blocks, and 389 digs. From her outside hitter position she helped guide the Lady Hornets to a return to District IV Class AA finals after a dramatic 3-2 win over Wyalusing in the semi-finals.
Sherman was named a 2017-18 NTL Large School Division 1st Team All-Star, 2nd team Towanda Daily Review All-Region Volleyball team, and an Tioga Publishing Outstanding All-Star.
“Cheyenne is going to leave a big hole in our program,” said head coach Sharon Zuchowski. “She’s been a leader and works really hard and the other girls feed off of that. We’re going to miss that. I expect her to work hard for a starting position and for her to show them her work ethic. I’m looking forward to seeing her be very successful at Penn State-Beaver.”
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Cheyenne on continuing her athletic career and thank her for all her hard work and dedication to the volleyball program.

Senior Brianne Keane announced she will continue her volleyball career in the fall at Division II Bloomsburg University on Friday, January 12.
“I’m really excited for the new level of competition because it’s going to be a higher level then what we’re used to at Wellsboro and meeting a whole bunch of new people that have the same passion I do,” Keane said on becoming a Husky.
Over the past 4 years Keane was a member of the 2015-16 District IV championship squad and helped guide the Lady Hornets back to the District title game this past season, which they came up short in five sets, and was a 2nd team NTL All-Star.
“I’m nervous but it will be fun,” Keane said of her upcoming new experience at Bloomsburg. “Coach Zuchowski really helped me out.”
In her four years as a Lady Hornet, Keane played 180 sets and recorded 107 kills, 102 aces, 29 blocks, 259 digs, scored 418 points, and registered 1,167 assists.

“I’m really superexcited for Bri. She’s worked hard and she’s been one of our strong leaders and I’m very pleased to see another kid head off to the collegiate level, it just shows their love for the sport,” Zuchowski said. “We’ve had a strong program and it’s due to all these girls who are working hard, in season and out of season. It is their love of the sport and talent that’s getting them to the next level.”
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratule Brianne on continuing her volleyball career.
