The Rock did not care about the Box Office performance of the Smashing Machine.
The Great One recently had a lengthy interview with the Hollywood Reporter. The session covered a lot of ground, including his tough childhood, failed Football career, his start and transformation in WWE and more.
One of the main themes of the interview was how The Smashing Machine represents a big shift in The Rock’s approach to life. The Hollywood star mentioned how he has been doing family-friendly and happy ending movies for a long time. It started as a way for him to avoid dealing with issues in his real life while he was going through a divorce back in 2008:
“Smashing Machine also represents a turning point in my career that Iâ€ve wanted for a long time: for the first time in my career — 20 plus years since The Scorpion King came out — I made a film to challenge myself and to really rip myself open and to go elsewhere and disappear and transform. And not one time did I think about box office.â€
I Went To Sleep Peacefully: The Rock
Compared to his other blockbusters with budgets ranging into hundreds of millions, The Smashing Machine was made with a limited budget of $50 million. Even then, the film failed to break even at the box office, having grossed only $20 million since its theatrical release last month.
The Rock mentioned how you don’t think that a project could flop during its making, and disappointing numbers can hit you hard when the film is finally released. With this movie, however, The People’s Champion did not go through any such emotions even on release day:
“I had not thought about that at all. And even that Friday night when we opened, I went to sleep peacefully and woke up peacefully because it represented this thing. And even though we didnâ€t do well [at the box office], or as well as we wanted to, it was okay because it just represented the thing I did for me.”
Despite the disappointing box office results, The Rock is not looking to stop experimenting with his work, and he’s already signed multiple movies of different genres. Though the former world champion is not leaving the sure hit franchise films behind, as he revealed during the interview that he will soon start filming for the third installment of the Jumanji franchise.

Saturday’s clash in Norman comes at a pivotal point in the season for both Ole Miss and Oklahoma.
The Sooners are back home where they won Top 25 games already this season, but their playoff spot is in danger because of the defeat to the Texas Longhorns two weeks ago.
John Mateer didn’t look fully healthy in that game and he only had 164 total yards in last week’s win over South Carolina.
But where Oklahoma has been uber consistent is its defense. The Sooners’ only concession of 20 or more points came against Texas.
Ole Miss proved it could win a low-scoring game against LSU on September 27, but winning on the road against one of the nation’s top defenses is a whole other task.
Lane Kiffin’s team needs a win in Norman to solidfiy its playoff spot. If it wins on Saturday, it can cruise to 11-1 with an easy schedule.
Oklahoma only has ranked opponents left on its schedule. It feels like Saturday is a must-win because it is at home before a two-game road trip to Alabama and Tennessee.
The Sooners are going to have to win the game with defense, which is why the Under 52.5 feels like a far safer wager to make than betting on two teams facing a ton of pressure.

A record 1,000 over-60s took part in this year’s Games – the UK’s ‘Festival of Active Ageing’.
The Better Club Games is provided by charitable social enterprise leisure operator and worker-owned co-op GLL, which works in partnership with local authorities.
Also known as ‘The Older Person’s Olympics’, this year’s friendly tournament saw 20 teams from across London, Rugby and Surrey compete in 11 sports, including table tennis, on 1 October.
Team Croydon players Ping Yang and Quan Zhou, both aged 63, were celebrating their third year at the Better Club Games.
Quan said: “We were confident at doing well this year but, to be honest, the enjoyment of the whole day is more important than the competition aspect.â€

It was Croydon who took the overall title – boosted by top-place finishes in pickleball and darts as well as table tennis.
Team Hackney finished second and Team Greenwich grabbed third spot.
This year marked the 19th anniversary of the Better Club Games, taking place on The International Day of the Older Person – highlighting the important contributions of older people to society.
The Better Club Games highlight the importance of active ageing, with clear benefits for physical health, mental wellbeing, and tackling social isolation.
The event was opened by TV star Su Pollard, best known for her role in classic sitcom Hi-de-Hi.

The SEC has its share of important Week 7 games as well.
The Alabama Crimson Tide continue a brutal stretch of their schedule with a road clash against the Missouri Tigers.
Bama beat the Georgia Bulldogs on the road and then fended off the Vanderbilt Commodores in consecutive weeks. After Saturday’s trip to Columbia, Bama is back home against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Mizzou’s played far less of a brutal schedule, but it be able to catch Alabama at a difficult part of its own SEC slate.
Bama needs its defense to travel to avoid an upset and continues its push toward the top five.
The Crimson Tide limited Georgia to 21 points and held three other opponents to 14 points or fewer in their three other victories.
Containing the Beau Pribula-Ahmad Hardy duo will be tough because Bama averages 155.5 rush yards allowed per game.
Alabama does boast the nation’s fifth-best passing defense, so if it can slow down Hardy out of the backfield, it can limit Pribula’s passing potential.
Mizzou has some impressive defensive numbers of its own. The Tigers allow 203.8 yards per game, the second-fewest total in the country, but they’ve only played two power-four schools.
Saturday’s game will be the true test of Mizzou’s defense, but right now, Bama has the more proven unit.
Prediction: Alabama (-3.5)

Confused as to what the 9-9-9 Challenge is? The premise is simple: A participant must consume nine hot dogs and nine beers over the course of the nine innings of a baseball game.
With scores of fans certain to be flocking to Citizens Bank Park for the 2025 postseason, the Phillies decided to make the challenge easier for fans by packaging it into a convenient one-stop bundle purchase.
Well, a version of the challenge, that is.
Presumably aiming to be a little more approachable for the average fan, Philadelphia’s 9-9-9 Challenge box reins things in a bit. The hot dogs are “fun size,” and the beers are “petite.”

The Phillies’ postseason run — and an unknown number of mini 9-9-9 Challenges — will begin on Saturday, with the Los Angeles Dodgers traveling to Citizens Bank Park for Game 1 of the National League Division Series.
There is a lot of awards buzz surrounding The Rock‘s upcoming movie, The Smashing Machine. However, the WWE Superstar isnâ€t thinking about what the film will do at the box office.
Dwayne “The Rock†Johnson recently sat down with The Guardian to discuss the upcoming release of The Smashing Machine. While discussing the potential box office of this movie, The Rock revealed why he hasnâ€t thought about that once.
“You know, Iâ€ll share this with you. This is the first time in my career that Iâ€ve not thought about box office once. And I like that. I appreciate it,†The Rock said. “With the other films, the big ones, the four-quadrant movies, itâ€s pressurised.
“Sure, I love making the Jumanjis and Moanas. But thereâ€s something so freeing about this process. We want this movie to open well and hope a lot of people like it. But for that not to be the thing … What a difference.
“Itâ€s a scary time because so much effort and money goes into the opening weekend here in the States. Then itâ€s: ‘How will it hold up? What will it do internationally? Maybe we should change that scene because itâ€d play better in Asia …†I make all these big movies, and some have been really good and some not so good at all. But this was one for us.â€
The Smashing Machine opens in theaters on October 3.

The LSU-Ole Miss point spread is indicative of how close the top teams in the SEC are to each other.
LSU is nine spots ahead of Ole Miss in the AP Top 25, but it is a 2.5-point underdog in Oxford on Saturday.
LSU is in that position thanks to some solid play from Garrett Nussmeier and a strong defense.
None of LSU’s four opponents scored more than 10 points against it. It might be hard to contain Ole Miss’ high-powered offense, but the Tigers’ defense is the biggest X-factor in the SEC battle.
Ole Miss allowed its two SEC opponents to score 58 points. That’s concerning because the Kentucky Wildcats and Arkansas Razorbacks aren’t close to the top half of the SEC.
Unless Ole Miss fixes its defensive issues in one week, it’s hard to trust the Rebels, even at home.
LSU’s defense is more trustworthy, and in a close game, that is the one unit that can make a big play or two and shift the course of the SEC contest.
