Arsenal are looking to secure a Bayern Munich star, as manager Mikel Arteta adds long-term prospects to his squad.
The Gunners signed eight new players over the summer, bringing in Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie in defence, Christian Norgaard and Ebere Eze in midfield, and Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres in attack.

Despite having the likes of Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and new buys Eze and Norgaard as options in midfield, Arteta has made commitments throughout his six seasons as manager in N5 to blood young talent in the centre of the park.
Arteta handed debuts to the two youngest Premier League stars ever in Nwaneri and Max Dowman, both Hale End playmakers who are expected to become fixtures of the Basque’s first team in seasons to come.
Now according to BILD’s Christian Falk, the Gunners are circling for 17-year-old Lennart Karl.
The German became the youngest Bayern Munich player to score in the Champions League last week, beating Jamal Musiala’s record with a strike against Club Brugge at the Allianz Arena, with calls for Julian Nagelsmann to call the teen up to the senior national set-up.
The best features, fun and footballing quizzes, straight to your inbox every week.
Sport Witness relays the report from the German outlet that claims that the Gunners are joined by the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in the chase for the no.10.
Nwaneri has been used sparingly in North London this season, with Eze and Merino featuring more, and should Arsenal move for another teenager in a similar position, it could mean competition for places is even more intense – it seems unlikely, though, that Karl is a serious target.
FourFourTwo understands that Arsenal have been looking to step up their youth recruitment in the past 18 months, bringing in the likes of Tommy Setford and Victor Ozhianvuna to complement the raft of talents they have coming through Hale End.

Karl, however, is contracted until 2028 in Bavaria and won’t come cheaply, having already broken into Vincent Kompany’s set-up – while Arsenal will face steep competition to sign yet another potential world-beater in a position that they already have two.
With Michael Ballack as his representative, Chelsea may feel that they have the advantage in landing the German, too, with Arsenal needing to convince the player’s party that they can offer meaningful first-team action in a squad filled with young talents, many of whom have recently signed deals.
Karl is valued at €20 million by Transfermarkt. Arsenal return to Premier League action against Burnley next weekend.

– Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is on the radar of Bayern Munich, the Daily Mirror reports. Amid continued interest from the Saudi Pro League, the Bundesliga champions now look set to join the race to sign Fernandes, whose transfer is valued at around the £70 million mark. United are open to entertaining bids to sign the 31-year-old if the fee is right, although it remains to be seen whether a deal could be sanctioned in January, as Fernandes is under contract until June 2027.
– Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have set their sights on FC Cologne wonderkid Said El Mala, says Bild. The 19-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga, where he has already scored three goals in seven appearances. While El Mala is under contract until 2030, he could be available as soon as next summer for a fee in the region of €30m-€40m. Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for the Germany U21 international in recent weeks.
– Manchester United midfielder Casemirois continuing to attract interest from the Saudi Pro League, according to Football Insider. Despite impressing of late for club and country, the 33-year-old Brazilian is prepared to listen to offers heading into the January transfer window. Casemiro’s contract expires next summer, and while a new deal has been mooted, it would require the player to take a pay cut.
– Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has told Corriere dello Sport that the club won’t be looking to sign Brazilian icon Neymar, 33, if he becomes a free agent at the end of his Santos contract: “Neymar? Come on, that’s b——-. Never contacted, never offered — it’s nonsense.”

Harry Kane scored his 400th club goal of his career as Bayern Munich dealt Borussia Dortmund their first Bundesliga loss of the season by winning Der Klassiker 2-1 on Saturday.
Kane scored in the 22nd minute with a header to Joshua Kimmich’s corner. It was his 22nd goal for club and country this season and stretched his scoring streak in the Bundesliga to five games that have yielded nine goals.
The 32-year-old now has 104 goals in 107 matches with Bayern Munich since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023. Kane netted 280 times for boyhood club Spurs, while his other club goals came during early career loan spells at Millwall (nine), Leyton Orient (five) and Leicester City (two).
– Kane is tearing up the Bundesliga. What’s next for England’s No. 9?
He also has 76 goals for England, after scoring twice against Latvia on Tuesday to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Those goals extended his scoring streak for club and country to a career-best nine games.
Kane’s latest goal Saturday came despite playing in a deeper role behind striker Nicolas Jackson, on loan from Chelsea.
“Probably six, eight and 10,” Kane joked with ESPN when asked what position he played against Dortmund. “But I enjoy it, I enjoy a different side of my game.
“I know everyone’s used to me being up top and scoring goals but I feel like I can contribute a lot more and today was a prime example. I still managed to obviously get on the scoresheet, which was nice, but ultimately it was more about defending, about tackles, about picking up second balls and then playing the passes in behind, which worked pretty well.”

Kane launched the first good chance, while defending. He eluded two Dortmund forwards, and sent the ball forward. Michael Olise drew a save from Gregor Kobel, who then secured Luis DÃaz’s effort from the rebound.
Olise grazed the left post with another shot. The only complaint Bayern could have at the break was that it was leading only 1-0.
Dortmund improved significantly after the interval when Felix Nmecha went close, Serhou Guirassy fired over, and Karim Adeyemi failed to capitalize on a rare Kimmich mistake.
It mattered little, as Olise sealed the win by sliding in to cut out substitute Jobe Bellingham’s attempted goal-line clearance in the 79th. That move started with a brilliant cross-field ball from Kane for DÃaz.
Substitute Julian Brandt scored seconds after his introduction but Kane defended as Bayern held on for their 11th consecutive win across all competitions to deliver a statement to their closest rival after six rounds.
“It was a good performance,” Kane added. “I feel like after the international break, the first game back is never easy, a lot of players getting back late Wednesday, late Thursday and you’re playing against a good side.
“For about 50, 60 minutes I thought we dominated, we controlled the game. The first half we probably should have been two- or three-nil up but you give these types of teams a chance and it’s difficult.
“[We’ve] done well to get the second goal and to concede straight away was annoying but overall we can be really pleased.”
Information from The Associated Press and ESPN Research was used in this report.
MUNICH — Modern football hype prefers it when we place everything in a convenient box that doesn’t always reflect reality. I suppose it’s understandable.
Covering the German game as a commentator, however, you quickly resist the temptation to make Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund what advertising moguls might have us do with a fixture that has come to be known as der Klassiker.
It doesn’t lend itself to a simplistic “clash of the titans” narrative. Nuance and context are needed when understanding what this confrontation is.
Yes, it is the most-high profile Bundesliga fixture that the wider world often associates with the league and it features two heavyweight clubs, indeed the two most avidly followed in the Bundesrepublik. The action — as was the case last season in a pair of thrilling score draws — can be highly absorbing in front of some of the largest crowds in the world and offers a window into who is currently the best team in Germany.

However, this is not the German rivalry to end all rivalries along the lines of Real Madrid against Barcelona, Celtic vs. Rangers or Galatasaray against Fenerbahce. Nor should we pretend it is. Bayern fans simply don’t obsess on a weekly Schadenfreude basis over BVB, and the same is true of those of a schwarzgelb persuasion with regard to the Rekordmeister.
Some would argue that calling it a rivalry is stretching it, although it is certainly a Spitzenduell (a duel of top teams).
The fixture began to gain prominence in the 1990s with the threat to Bayern from the industrial west under the aegis of Ottmar Hitzfeld, who would later take his coaching talents to Munich. Back then, Bayern were not as dominant as they are now and players didn’t view Bayern-BVB as a cut above other matches.
Arguably the greatest era for this tussle was during Jürgen Klopp’s time in charge of BVB. Dortmund lifting the Meisterschale in 2011 and 2012 added spice and tension and it set the table for the all-German 2013 Champions League final at Wembley. This time, Bayern were victorious in a nailbiter.
The fact remains that BVB have come up empty in their Bundesliga title quest since 2012, most painfully in 2023, when they failed to play the considerable cards in their deck and gifted Bayern a winning hand on the final day.
In the past two seasons, der Klassiker, while still the most watched fixture in the Oberhaus, has played second fiddle on a competitive basis to Bayern’s meetings with 2024 champions Bayer Leverkusen.

This term, there’s no doubt the pecking order has shifted again. Bayern, under Vincent Kompany appear to have one of their most formidable formulas in several years. It raises the question: Can anyone get close to them in the Bundesliga?
The evidence of the first six matchdays is that BVB are likely the only team with a chance of preventing a Bayern runaway. They lack Bayern’s overall quality but there is a tenacity and defensive resilience about Dortmund in their current guise under Niko Kovac that makes you think they could, on a very good day, end Bayern’s flawless record in all competitions so far this season.
I find there is a general erroneous belief among casual fans that Bayern almost always beat BVB, and certainly in Munich. In fact, Dortmund’s past two visits have produced a 2-0 win and a 2-2 draw, the latter well merited with the pressure on to lift themselves up into a Champions League place against the odds.
Bayern will be firm favorites on Saturday, though. How could it be otherwise considering their 10 straight competitive wins to start the season with 38 goals scored?

The loose ends from Kompany’s first campaign at the helm have been tightened up to the point where it’s difficult to discern a weakness. Even with Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito still on the sidelines, and Thomas Müller no longer part of the equation, Bayern are markedly better than they were up and down the pitch when the Belgian took over.
It’s natural to highlight Harry Kane, whose tally of 11 goals from six Bundesliga matches so far puts him on a pace to obliterate Robert Lewandowski‘s 41-goal single-season record. I’ve spoken at length in this space about Kane’s increased versatility with adept long-range passing and dropping into the Musiala position for increased effectiveness part of his repertoire.
But it’s also worth taking note of Bayern’s improved team statistics in the running and sprinting department. Rarely does the team with the highest possession percentage lead the field in distance covered, a category normally reserved for a team designed to play gegen den Ball (against the ball).
Dortmund don’t play with an especially high line and it’s to be expected that their Dreierkette (back three) will follow similar tactics at the Allianz Arena, while hoping to make the Umschaltmomente (transitional moments) count. This plays to the strength of the speedy Karim Adeyemi and natural line leader Serhou Guirassy.
To me, this encounter doesn’t actually need a vapid wrestling style introduction. It’s surely enough to make it about perfect Bayern and unbeaten Dortmund, first vs. second, on a collision course and an engrossing football contest.
And the German language has the perfect word for the occasion: richtungsweisend (pointing the way ahead).
Jurgen Klinsmann (Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images) Juergen Klinsmann enjoys a rare distinction of being part of Der Klassiker both as a player and a coach. He is one of the four managers to have played for Bayern Munich and coached the Bavarian elites. Croatian Niko Kovac, the current Borussia Dortmund coach plotting to disrupt Bayern Munichâ€s all-win record this season on Saturday, is also part of the unique club. Talking to TOI on Wednesday, an excited Klinsmann expressed his thoughts on the upcoming fixture, considered to be the biggest draw in the Bundesliga. With Dortmundâ€s Serhou Guirassy cleared to play, the German goal-scoring legend feels that his eyes will sway between the Guinean striker and Bayernâ€s in-form Harry Kane. “Well, I think these are the games that, as a striker, you wait for the whole year. You badly want to score in these matchups. So, obviously it doesnâ€t need extra motivation for any of the players when these two teams clash because itâ€s a big deal in Germany and for all the Bundesliga fans around the world.†Klinsmann obviously loves talking about strikers. “Kane, Guirassy, (Michael) Olise, (Karim) Adeyemi, all, Iâ€m sure, wait for such evenings. Days before, you kind of think through it and you wish you want to score. Immediately television and social media will showcase the moment around the world and thatâ€s pretty cool.†Scoring seems to come as naturally as breathing for Harry Kane, the English captain in Bayernâ€s forward lineup. He has already scored 21 goals for club and country. Guirassy, too, has 10 to his credit across all competitions. “I think games like that, you want to have somebody to stand out. You want to have somebody to put the stamp on the match. And when you have players of this calibre, then all us football fans want to wait for these moments. We want to see them kind of prove a point,†said the German goal-scoring legend. Klinsmann couldnâ€t help referring to his playing days but not in a glorifying nostalgic way. Accepting the evolution of the game, he said, “The video analysts and the coaching staff dissect your game so thoroughly that they know where the weaknesses of the opponents are, how to break them down. During my days, things werenâ€t that sophisticated. We were not so deeply prepared by video analysts about the opponents.†(Watch Bundesliga 2025-26 Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund on 18th October 2025 from 10 PM IST live on Sony Sports Ten 2 SD & HD.)

Initial talks with the player’s representatives have already taken place, as the Bundesliga champions eye a free transfer in 2026 amid competition from Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid. – Barcelona are admirers of Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, says SkySwitzerland. Adeyemi, 23, could emerge as a concrete target next summer, as he will be entering the final year of his current deal, and Barca are keeping tabs on his development in the Bundesliga. The Germany international has had a solid start to the new season, with three goal involvements from his first six league games and could replace 37-year-old Robert Lewandowski long term.

Harry Kane says his interest in returning to the Premier League has cooled and he is willing to open talks with Bayern Munich about a new contract.
Kane is halfway through the four-year deal he signed when joining from Tottenham Hotspur for £86.4m in the summer of 2023.
The 32-year-old has scored 103 goals in 106 appearances for the German club, helping them win the 2024-25 Bundesliga title – the first honour of his career.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has said he would like to see Kane return to England, where he needs 48 goals to eclipse Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League scoring record of 260.
But the England captain says he is no longer as keen on returning home as he once was, and would consider extending his stay in Bavaria.
“In terms of staying longer, I could definitely see that,” he said.
“I spoke openly a couple of weeks ago that I have not had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise I would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation.
“Obviously it depends on how the next year or so goes and what we achieve together. Right now, I would say we are in a fantastic moment and I am not thinking about anything else.
“In terms of the Premier League, I don’t know. If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back.
“Now I have been there a couple of years I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, but I wouldn’t say I would never go back.
“What I have learned in my career is that different opportunities and different timings happen and things fall in place. Going back to my first point with Bayern right now I am fully all in with Bayern.”
Harry Kane says he is open to extending his stay at Bayern Munich and believes a return to the Premier League is no longer guaranteed.
The England captainâ€s deal expires in 2027 and suggestions of a £56.7m release clause that can be activated at the end of this season led to speculation over his future. Thomas Frank, the Tottenham manager, has said Kane would be welcomed back if he wanted to move.
That remains a distant prospect, even though coming back to England would give Kane an opportunity to get the 48 goals he needs to break the Premier Leagueâ€s scoring record. The 32-year-old is hungry for more success after winning the Bundesliga last season to end his wait for a trophy, and his views on playing in English football again have evolved in the two years since he left Spurs for Bayern.
“In terms of staying longer I could definitely see that,†Kane said. “I have not had those conversations with Bayern yet but if they were to arise I would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation. Obviously it depends on how the next year or so goes, what we achieve together. We are in a fantastic moment and I am not thinking about anything else.

“I am fully all in with Bayern. If there was a conversation about extending then we will see, but I have still got this season and another season. It is not like I am in my last year, it is not like there is any panic. I am calm, I love the manager at Bayern and as long we are improving and I am improving then I am happy to see what we can achieve.â€
Kane has made a sensational start to the season, scoring 19 goals for club and country. But he knows that being crowned the best player in the world will require winning the Champions League with Bayern or the World Cup with England next summer.
“I would love to win the Ballon dâ€Or,†Kane said. “Essentially it is a team trophy that the best individual from that team wins, so it is going to be a Champions League winner or a World Cup winner … It would be an accumulation of doing something great individually and as a team. It would be almost the perfect season.â€

Kane considered whether he has become a better player at Bayern. His analysis was that he is “seeing the game at the highest level Iâ€ve ever hadâ€. It was interesting to note that Vincent Kompany, Bayernâ€s manager, talked about Kaneâ€s work out of possession after he scored twice against Chelsea last month.
“When you win a title maybe it could be easy to go the other way and be like: ‘OK Iâ€ve done what I wanted to achieve,â€â€ Kane said. “But itâ€s given me motivation to do more. My numbers are 11km a game, a lot of high‑speed running. Sometimes when Iâ€m watching the games back, Iâ€m more looking forward to watching tackles or one of my defensive actions than watching my goals back. I donâ€t know if that means Iâ€m getting a little bit bored of my goals or like the tackling part as well but itâ€s been enjoyable.
“I was interested in how I would feel after winning a trophy. It could have been easy to be a bit more relaxed. I pushed myself the other way, being even better, eating even cleaner, doing more gym.

“I do eat clean anyway. Itâ€s just whether the cheat meals after games are not so much, or when youâ€re out with the family not having as much ice cream. Small details, but at the highest level those make a big difference.â€
Kane is preparing for Englandâ€s friendly against Wales on Thursday and World Cup qualifier against Latvia next Tuesday. The focus has been on Thomas Tuchel leaving Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden out of his squad. Tuchel has said he wanted to reward the players who excelled in training and against Serbia last month.
“There are a lot of players who are different from past tournament squads,†Kane said. “But I think the boss has made it pretty clear that those players, itâ€s not like theyâ€re out of the squad for sure. A lot of them are maybe just coming back into form. Some of them, Jude especially, heâ€s not been fit, and just played one or two games. It is a big change, but thatâ€s not my decision. Harry Kane scored his 100th goal for Bayern Munich on Friday night, reaching the landmark in just 104 matches to become the fastest player this century to reach 100 goals for a single club.
The England captain was on target twice in a 4-0 home win against Werder Bremen, taking him to three figures and extending Bayernâ€s 100% record after five Bundesliga outings. In doing so Kane has nudged ahead of Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo, who took 105 matches to reach three figures for Manchester City and Real Madrid respectively. The pair had jointly shared the scoring record in Europeâ€s top five leagues but Kane has now gone clear on his own.
Kane, who ended his long association with Tottenham to join Bayern in 2023, is now the 19th player to score 100 goals for the club.
Bayern were already one ahead through Jonathan Tah when he slammed home a penalty on the stroke of half-time – his 18th successful spot-kick from as many attempts. Kane moved from 99 to 100 with a smart finish 20 minutes into the second half, stabbing home after being teed up by Luis DÃaz.
Kane was substituted with 12 minutes to go, denying him the chance of a second straight hat-trick after putting three past Hoffenheim, but Konrad Laimer did pop up to make it four.
In France, Strasbourg missed a chance to go clear at the top of Ligue 1. Liam Roseniorâ€s side were leading Marseille at home until the 78th minute, Abdoul Ouattara with the goal, but ended up with a 2-1 defeat which puts Roberto De Zerbiâ€s side top of the standings for the time being.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbed the equaliser and Michael Amir Murillo completed the turnaround victory as the clock ticked into added time.

Harry Kane reached a century of goals for Bayern Munich with his second strike against Werder Bremen on Friday and claimed a piece of European history in the process.
Kane’s 100 goals have come in just 104 matches, the fastest anyone has achieved that mark with a club in Europe’s top five leagues this century.

Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo needed 105 games to notch 100 goals for Manchester City and Real Madrid, respectively.
Kane, who joined the Bundesliga giants from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, is the 19th man to score 100 goals for Bayern.

“I knew about this record, for sure,” Kane told ESPN. “It was hard not to hear about it or see it. Yeah, it’s a big one, first of all to reach 100 goals for any club is an amazing achievement. A club like Bayern Munich is extra special. And then to do it in record time, one game less, you’re talking about some of the great players — Ronaldo one of the best ever, Haaland on his way to being a great.
“These are great achievements that I can look back on when I’m a bit older, but for now it’s just about enjoying it.”
Kane is under contract with Bayern until the end of next season and coach Vincent Kompany dismissed a question about whether the England captain might seek a return to the Premier League next year.
“I honestly have to say that isn’t a topic for us. We don’t discuss that, we don’t need to discuss that,” Kompany told Sky. “What he’s showing now is how he feels, I believe, and that was another nice moment for him today.”
The 32-year-old has been in particularly prolific form to start the new season. Kane now has 10 goals in five Bundesliga games and 15 goals in all competitions.
After Jonathan Tah had opened the scoring for Bayern, Kane made it 2-0 with his 99th goal from the penalty spot in the 45th minute after being fouled by Marco Friedl. It was Kane’s 18th successful penalty conversion in 18 attempts for Bayern, the longest streak without failing to score in Bundesliga history.
It took only until the 65th minute for Kane to bring up the century as he finished low from the center of the box following a pass from Luis DÃaz.
Although he was undoubtedly eyeing a third hat trick of the season, Kane was substituted in the 78th minute to a warm reception from Bayern fans inside Allianz Arena.
The match finished 4-0 after Konrad Laimer added a fourth goal for Bayern late on to stretch their lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a fifth win in as many games.
“We’ve built a lot on what we started last year with the manager, the way he wants us to play, his ideas without the ball,” Kane added. “And month by month, we’ve been getting better. This start of the season wasn’t easy because of the lack of preseason after the Club Word Cup, so to start the season how we have is compliments to everyone involved.
“There’s still a long way to go, but when you’re winning games like this and dominating games it sends a message to every other team, not just in Germany but in Europe as well.”
Bayern will now prepare to visit Pafos of Cyprus in the Champions League on Tuesday.
