(AP Photo/Manish Swarup) Indian cricket team enforced a follow-on against West Indies on day three of their Test match at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, after bowling them out for 248 in their first innings. John Campbell and Shai Hope staged a strong fightback with unbeaten half-centuries, reducing the deficit to 97 runs after India had earlier declared their first innings at 518/5.West Indies ended the day at 173/2 in their second innings, with Campbell on 87 and Hope on 66 not out.India’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate revealed there were discussions about batting again before enforcing the follow-on.”There was a discussion to bat. Those last two wickets took a little bit longer than we would have hoped for, and had probably started going towards the space where you do look to bat again. But we felt [270] was a good lead. We thought the wicket was going to keep deteriorating, we thought by the close of play it would be at its worst, but it just seems to have slowed down even more,” said Doeschate. The assistant coach praised Kuldeep Yadav’s four-wicket performance, highlighting his unique bowling style.”The difference is Kuldeep is that he is a mystery spinner, and there is an element of danger associated with it compared to finger-spinners. He is very difficult to pick. Kuldeep bowled in the right areas and spun it both ways,” Doeschate added. He also commended captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja’s leadership abilities.”Shubman’s captaincy is coming on nicely. He excelled on a difficult tour of England, and he continued to build on that, and he conveys the messages to players a lot more now. Jadeja’s getting to an age where you start looking beyond him, but he is showing how valuable he is,” he stated.West Indies all-rounder Khary Pierre expressed surprise at India’s decision to enforce the follow-on.”I was surprised, but it’s India, and you know they want to get the win, and probably didn’t think they needed to go back and bat, but so be it. We have to bat properly in this innings and try and make a game of it,” Pierre said.Pierre remained optimistic about his team’s chances in the match.”I would say the Test match is still on. Once we apply ourselves with the bat, we have two set batters at the crease right now that will start over tomorrow, and once we bat properly, the game is still on. Once we get a lead, we all know, on the fourth and fifth day of a Test match, the bowlers will come and probably get some balls to spin and stuff and make a game of it,” he said.Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed their first innings at 140/4. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Hope for 36, breaking the fifth-wicket partnership at 49 runs.Pierre scored 23 and Anderson Phillip made 24 not out, but Kuldeep Yadav (5/82) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/46) helped dismiss West Indies for 248.On day one, India chose to bat after winning the toss. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul (38) put on 58 runs before Jomel Warrican removed Rahul.Jaiswal then formed substantial partnerships with Sai Sudharsan (87) and Shubman Gill (129 not out), before being run out for 175.Gill continued his strong form, building partnerships with Nitish Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44 not out) as India declared at 518/5.Warrican was West Indies’ most successful bowler with figures of 3/98.West Indies’ first innings saw contributions from Tagenarine Chanderpaul (34) and Alick Athaneze (41) before they were reduced to 140/4 at the end of day two.

Women's World Cup: Amanjot Kaur delights with bat, ball and her one-linersGUWAHATI, INDIA – SEPTEMBER 30: Amanjot Kaur of India hits out during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup India 2025 match between India and Sri Lanka at Barsapara Cricket Stadium on September 30, 2025 in Guwahati, India. (Photo by Pankaj Nangia/Getty Images) Guwahati:Deepti Sharma won the Player of the Match award on Tuesday night for her all-round performance, but pace-bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur was not far behind. While Deepti played a steady knock scoring a run-a-ball 53 when India were 124/6 midway through the first innings, Kaur owned the aggressorâ€s role on way to notch her maiden ODI World Cup half-century on 50-over World Cup debut. If Deepti returned 3/54 from her 10 overs, Kaur shared the new ball with rookie Kranti Gaud in pace spearhead Renuka Singhâ€s absence and took 1/37 from 6 overs on Tuesday. She helped the record Guwahati crowd uplift their sombre mood due to Zubeen daâ€s unfortunate and untimely death with her fearless batting. But the Punjabi girl is not someone to be confined within the limits of on-field show. Off the field sheâ€s equally good with the microphone, delivering punchlines at ease, as journalists were in splits during the post-match presser past midnight. “You canâ€t say India was in trouble. I was yet to bat,†she said with a grin when asked about Indiaâ€s situation at 124 for 6, before adding, “You canâ€t come to a conclusion so soon. Fifty overs is a long game, so itâ€s possible that the first 10 overs donâ€t go our way, favouring the other team, but the next 10 overs can go in our favour. We have won Day 1; hopefully we will have eight more good days (till the final).†“It is said that a wounded lion takes a step back only to take a big leap,†she said and burst into laughter, before adding, “You guys will make me famous for my one-liners!â€The talking point was her absence from the Australia ODI series at home earlier this month. “I wanted to be fresh for World Cup. I had a discussion with the coaches and I told them that I donâ€t feel that good in bowling because I donâ€t want to give only 80-90% when I play for India. Either 100% or nothing,†she sounded as straight forward as her batting. Dropped thrice, Amanjot didnâ€t consider it to be her good luck after missing good amount of cricket due to injury. “I felt it was very good that I got that year off. You can take injury as a setback, but in those months, I learnt more than I did in my six-year career. There is no bad luck. If I donâ€t make runs tomorrow, then you will say — how did the good luck end?†the 25-year-old Punjabi added with a broad smile. Asked about her fearless approach, Amanjot said: “If I would have played slowly and got out then you would say I wasted so many balls and didnâ€t get any runs. At least that ball will not be spoilt for the next person. Because ultimately, you have to put up a score to defend.â€

Who do you think was the standout player in the recent ODI World Cup match for India?

Deepti, meanwhile, termed her 103-run stand with Amanjot as the turning point of the game. “That partnership with Amanjot was the turning point. We wanted to have a long partnership and we executed it. No pressure at all because I am used to these types of situations. On this type of pitch, I believe in my stock balls, and try to bowl stump to stump. First match always sets the tone and there are a lot of positives from the match,†she said. “I think as a team, there were a lot of good things that happened,†Sri Lanka bowler Inoka Ranaweera said after the match, on claiming 4/46 off nine overs. “If we take bowling, we did bowl first and also in batting, we had a good partnership in batting as well. Thatâ€s something positive when we are moving forward.â€

Asia Cup: Tilak Varma honoured by Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, presents bat to Chief MinisterTilak Varma met Telangana CM Revanth Reddy after he guided India to the Asia Cup 2025 trophy in Dubai (Images via X/@ANI & Getty Images) Indiaâ€s Asia Cup 2025 final hero Tilak Varma paid a visit to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, where he was felicitated for his match-winning performance against Pakistan in Dubai. Reddy praised Tilak’s efforts and posed with a cricket bat presented by the young batter, mimicking a shot on the pitch. State Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari and several sports officials were also present during the ceremony. Earlier, speaking to reporters, Varma looked back on his heroics in the high-pressure final. The 22-year-old admitted he had to remain calm under intense pressure, reminding himself that he was batting not just for himself but for the 140 crore people back home. “There was a lot of pressure and nerves in my body. A lot was going on in my mind. In my mind and heart, I thought that whatever I do, I will give my life for the country. If I am under pressure and fail, I am not just bringing myself down, I am bringing down 140 crore people. To do that, I had to stay calm. I have learnt the basics from my childhood, and I have had this habit since I was a kid — to be calm and execute everything in my mind,†Varma said. In the final, India lost key top-order batters Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav early, leaving the team in a tough position. Tilak rose to the occasion, striking an unbeaten 69 to guide India to a five-wicket win and secure their ninth Asia Cup title. Tilak also credited partnerships for Indiaâ€s recovery, highlighting his stand with Shivam Dube. “The wicket was not that easy for batting. As soon as we came back, we won the game by building a partnership. That is the quality of India,†he said. He also spoke about the distractions during the India–Pakistan clash, saying, “Pakistan always tries to distract the players. A lot of things happened when I was batting, but I canâ€t tell you on camera. It happens in India-Pakistan matches — we say a lot of things in the middle of the game. But the real answer is when you win the match. Thatâ€s what I had to do, and I did it.â€

In what was his sixth international outing across all formats, Cox’s maiden half-century easily surpassed his previous best of 17 in an England jersey.

After leading The Hundred in runs scored and being named Most Valuable Player as he helped the Oval Invincibles to a third consecutive title last month, he said he had looked to bring some of that confidence to his international return.

“It’s only a ball coming down, don’t worry about it. Whoever is bowling it, just have a bit of fun and show what you can do. That’s what I tried to do.

“I seemed to do well in that Oval shirt so I just was like ‘come on, this is just franchise cricket and I’m playing for the Oval, just enjoy it and have a bit of fun’.

“That’s what I do when I’m there so why not try and do it everywhere?”

Cox said he has “really struggled” with missing out on a Test bow against New Zealand last winter.

In his absence, 21-year-old Jacob Bethell made his Test debut on the tour and now seems sure to be a part of the squad that will be named this week for this winter’s Ashes series in Australia.

Cox added: “To have the opportunity to play for your country in Test cricket is something that I always dreamt of doing, and am still dreaming about doing, so to get that taken away was really hard.

“My friends and family, the people closest to me, said it would have happened for a reason. If that means I wasn’t quite ready to play Test cricket yet, that was someone telling me I wasn’t ready.

“There’s a reason why I didn’t play; there was a reason why Bethell did and why he did so well. But I really struggled with it.”
