Shaheen Shah Afridi of Pakistan speaks to Abhishek Sharma of India and Shubman Gill of India. (Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) Indiaâ€s Asia Cup 2025 victory over Pakistan was powered by Abhishek Sharmaâ€s explosive batting throughout the tournament, and the left-handed opener did not hold back his confidence in the post-match interview. While reflecting on his approach, Sharma made a pointed reference to Pakistanâ€s self-styled “premium fast bowler,†Shaheen Shah Afridi.Click here to watch the video. “Spinners, fast bowlers, any of the premium fast bowlers as well…I had it in my mind that I had to go from the first ball. That is going to help me give impact to my team, and that is what happened,†said Abhishek. The remark is widely seen as a playful jab at Afridi, whom Abhishek had tonked for a six on the very first ball he faced in the Super Four clash earlier in the tournament. Sharmaâ€s performances set the tone for India in all their matches. The 25-year-old finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer with 314 runs in seven innings at an average of 44.85 and a strike rate of 200. He shared crucial partnerships with vice-captain Shubman Gill, providing India blazing starts and laying the foundations for victory in key matches. For his consistency and impact, Abhishek was adjudged the Player of the Tournament, earning a car as part of the award. “Getting a car is always a pleasure. Getting into this team after winning the World Cup was not easy for any opener. We had a plan to play our game and show our intent from the first ball. Worked really hard on that,†he said. Sharma credited the support from captain Suryakumar Yadav, the coaching staff, and the team environment for enabling his fearless approach. “If you play like this, you need special support from the coach and captain, and that is what I have been getting. If I do well and get those impact innings for the team, we should win,†he added. Though Abhishek and Shubman Gill were dismissed early in the final against Pakistan, Tilak Varma anchored Indiaâ€s five-wicket triumph with 69 not out, supported by Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube. Indian bowlers Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel had earlier restricted Pakistan to 146 all out, sealing Indiaâ€s ninth Asia Cup title.
India beat Pakistan by five wickets in a tense final to retain the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
It was the third meeting between the rivals at the tournament and success for India earned them a ninth title.
Both sides again refused to shake hands – as they had in the two earlier fractious encounters.
The India players did not reappear for the trophy presentation and Indian cricket board (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia later said the players refused to accept the winner’s trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav said: “It’s one thing that I have never seen in my career that a champion team is denied its trophy.”
The two nations engaged in a brief military conflict in May, which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi referenced when congratulating the players on social media.
Even before that conflict, the cricket teams would only face each other at neutral venues.
Made to bat first, Pakistan started superbly, with Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) putting together an impressive opening stand of 84.
They rallied to 113-1 with 44 balls left in the innings, but the collapse that followed would be dramatic and prove pivotal to the outcome.
With the help of left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav (4-30) and some poor shots, India took the remaining nine wickets for just 33 runs as a shellshocked Pakistan were bundled out for 146 with five deliveries still left in their innings.
India vs Pakistan:India has defeated Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 by five wickets in a closer-than-expected match to win the competition for a second time in a row.
The third India vs Pakistan match in as many weeks was the final of the Asia Cup 2025. The match was played at the Dubai International Stadium and saw the Men in Blue win the toss and decide to bowl first.
India vs Pakistan: India Beats Pakistan In Asia Cup Final
Pakistan got off to an excellent start in their inning. While the first over, surprisingly bowled by Shivam Dube, went well for India, the Men in Green quickly found their rhythm and started stacking up runs. The opening pair of Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman together scored 45 runs in the powerplay without losing any wickets.
However, after the six-over mark, they really picked up the pace. By the ninth over, Farhan had scored a half-century, and Pakistan had made 77 runs without any losses. It seemed that for the final, the usual India vs Pakistan script would be flipped. However, success soon came for the Indian bowlers.
In the 10th over, Varun Chakravarthy found his first victim in Sahibzada Farhan. Failing to read a googly, the batter slogged the ball and was caught at square leg, 84/1.
This wicket brought Saim Ayub to the crease. Despite a wicket, the run rate did not fall as Ayub and Zaman kept scoring at a decent rate. However, the complexion of this match was about to change as Saim Ayub became Kuldeep Yadavâ€s first wicket in this match as the wrist spinner dismissed Saim for 14 off 11 in the 13th over, 113/2.
This was the start of a massive collapse for Pakistan, as wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris got out to Axar Patel for a duck in the very next over. Fakhar Zaman, after scoring 46 off 35, became Chakravarthyâ€s second prey in the 15th over.
Hussain Talat would be caught behind in the 16th, and captain Salman Ali Agha would become Kuldeepâ€s second in the 17th over. From 113/2, Pakistan had tumbled down to 133/6. And the collapse was yet to finish. Shaheen Afridi, who had been Pakistanâ€s hero with the bat and the ball in this tournament, got out for a duck in the 17th as well, and so did Faheem Ashraf. With this, Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets in one over.
Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up the tail quickly afterwards, as Pakistan were bowled out for 146 after getting off to a solid start.
However, despite pulling themselves to be the favourites to win this match, the Men in Blue got off to a poor start to their innings. Abhishek Sharma, who has been excellent for three matches in a row and is the tournamentâ€s highest run scorer, scored just five before mistiming a slower one by Faheem Ashraf and getting caught at mid-off in the second over after just scoring five.
Captain Surya Kumar Yadav never settled in, making only one run before being dismissed by Shaheen Afridi in the third over, and Shubman Gill would depart in the powerplay too, making only 12 runs before getting out to Ashraf as India fell to 20/3.
As the target was not too big, the fourth-wicket partnership of Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson, rather than looking to hit big, dug down on the crease, just trying to avoid losing any more wickets. At the end of the powerplay, the score was 42/3. But by the halfway mark, the run rate had fallen below six, as the score at that point was 58/3.
While many Indian fans feared an upset at this point, the two batters on the crease did not lose their cool. Well, until the 13th over, when Sanju Samson, looking to pick the pace up, misread a delivery by Abrar Ahmed and was caught at point. As Sanju got out for 24 off 21, the score was not 77/4 in the 13th over, and India needed 70 off 46.
This was a trigger for Tilak Varma to start scoring quicker to catch up with the required run rate, which has climbed to over nine at this point. This picking up of the run rate started in the 15th over, in which the pair of Varma and Shivam Dube made 17 runs off Haris Rauf.
This was the start of the Indian batters climbing their way to the target. Tilak Varma completed his half-century soon after, as they hit 10 or more runs in an over regularly from this point.
With 10 runs needed in seven balls, Shivam Dube got out for 33 off 22. That left a target of 10 runs in the last over with Tilak Varma on strike and pacer Haris Rauf running in with the ball.
First ball, Tilak took a double with Rinku Singh, who was on the crease for the first time this tournament, replacing Hardik Pandya in the side. Second ball, Tilak hit a massive six, virtually ending the match. On the next ball, a single was taken, and the scores were level. Rinku, facing a delivery for the first time in this Asia Cup, hit a boundary to win India the match as Pakistan fell short against their arch-rivals once again.
This was the third India vs Pakistan match of the Asia Cup 2025. And for the third time in as many weeks, India emerged victorious in this match-up. The two standout performers for India in this match were Kuldeep Yadav and Tilak Varma. While Kuldeep bowled a brilliant spell of 4/30 in four overs, Tilak scored 69* off 53 and guided India to their second Asia Cup victory in a row.

L-R: ACC & PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi; Team India on podium without trophy. TimesofIndia.com in Dubai: The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan ended in ugly drama on Sunday night in Dubai, after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi allegedly walked away with the winners†trophy, leaving the presentation ceremony in complete disarray.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. The players stood firm at a distance from the stage, reportedly informing the organisers that they would not participate in the presentation if the PCB chief attempted to hand over the trophy.READ ALSO: Rs 21 crore bonanza! As Naqvi waited awkwardly on the dais, Indian fans inside the stadium booed loudly, chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jaiâ€, making the atmosphere even more hostile. It was quite apparent that Naqvi didnâ€t want to see India getting photographed with the trophy, with organisers eventually whisking it away into the dressing room after prolonged delays.Sources revealed that the Indian team had already informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that Naqvi, also Pakistanâ€s interior minister, was an unacceptable figure to present the cup. The refusal followed a series of frosty exchanges during the tournament — from no handshakes between players, to the absence of the traditional pre-toss photoshoot. An ACC source further revealed that the Indian team made it clear they didnâ€t want Naqvi on the podium.

In another twist, the Pakistan players remained inside their dressing room for nearly an hour after the match, leaving Naqvi stranded on stage. When skipper Salman Agha and his team eventually emerged, they were greeted by deafening chants of “Indiaaaa, Indiaaaa†from the crowd. On the field, however, Indiaâ€s win was emphatic. Tilak Varma anchored the chase with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls, adding a crucial 60-run stand with Shivam Dube (33). Earlier, Kuldeep Yadavâ€s 4-30 dismantled Pakistanâ€s middle order, restricting them to 146 after a promising start from Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46).While India celebrated yet another continental crown, the night will be remembered as much for the cricket as for the chaotic and unprecedented trophy fiasco that followed.
Team India (Pic credit: BCCI) NEW DELHI: Dubai roared in blue on Sunday night as India clinched their record-extending ninth Asia Cup title with a five-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan — and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wasted no time in rewarding the champions. Soon after the win, the board announced a massive Rs 21 crore prize money for the players and support staff, celebrating yet another milestone in Indian cricketâ€s glittering history.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Message delivered. 21 crores prize money for the team and support staff,” the BCCI posted on X, underlining both the dominance and the significance of the triumph. On the field, it was Tilak Varma who starred with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls. Calm under pressure, the 22-year-old anchored Indiaâ€s chase of 147 with a match-winning 60-run stand alongside Shivam Dube. Despite India slipping to 20/3 and later 77/4, Varma held his nerve, striking three fours and four sixes before finishing the game in style with Rinku Singh, who hit the winning boundary.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadavâ€s spell of 4-30 triggered Pakistanâ€s collapse from a commanding 113/1 to 146 all out in 19.1 overs. Sahibzada Farhanâ€s 57 and Fakhar Zamanâ€s 46 gave Pakistan early momentum, but the Indian wrist-spinner ripped through the middle order, including three wickets in a sensational 17th over. The atmosphere was as charged off the field as on it. From Jasprit Bumrah mimicking Haris Raufâ€s earlier gesture after bowling him out, to yet another match without handshakes between the two teams, the clash reflected the political and sporting tensions surrounding the rivalry. For India, however, the night was about celebration. With fans packing the Dubai International Stadium and the BCCIâ€s hefty prize announcement adding gloss to the win, the victory was more than just silverware — it was a statement ahead of next yearâ€s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
India won their ninth Asia Cup trophy as they beat Pakistan in the final on Sunday in Dubai, doing a 3-0 over Salman Aghaâ€s side in this edition of the tournament.
But while the previous two wins were comfortable, this one went down to the wire, and at one point, Pakistan even had the upper hand.
India began their chase of 147 on a disastrous note, losing the in-form Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav for the score of only 20 runs in four overs as Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Afridi cleverly used the variation deliveries.
Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma brought India some control with a partnership of 57 runs off 50 balls before the right-hander was caught at point off Abrar Ahmed.
Another partnership for India was forged between Varma, who held his end, reaching his half-century off 41 balls, and Shivam Dube, who blasted two sixes and a four to bring the equation down to 17 runs required off the last 12 balls.
Faheem got pulled for a four by Dube, but the left-hander was caught at long-on on the last ball of the over, leaving India needing 10 off the last six deliveries. With the tension palpable and eight runs needed off five balls, Varma pulled Rauf for a six on the second delivery of the over to all but seal the win. Varma remained unbeaten on 69 off 53 balls.
Earlier, Pakistan, with the bat, had a boom followed by a bust. Sahibzada Farhan continued his upper hand over Jasprit Bumrah from the Super Four fixture, cracking the Indian spearhead pacer for two fours and a six in his two powerplay overs.
Pakistan ended the powerplay at 45/0. In the next 3.3 overs, Farhan and Zaman launched the Indian spinners for three sixes and a four. However, Pakistan then suffered a mighty collapse from thereon.
Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Farhan for 57(38). Kuldeep and Axar, too, made dents, dismissing Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris in the 13th and 14th overs, respectively.
Zaman tonked Chakaravarthy for a sixer over long-on, but the Indian mystery spinner had the last laugh as the left-hander miscued to backward point. Zaman scored 46 off 35 balls. In the next over, Axar got rid of Hussain Talat.
In the 17th over, bowled by Kuldeep, Pakistanâ€s innings derailed completely as they lost three wickets, those of Salman Agha, Shaheen Afridi, and Faheem Ashraf. The over yielded three wickets for India and only one run for Pakistan, which came off a wide delivery.
Bumrah claimed the last two wickets, completing another famous Pakistani collapse—from 113/1 to 146 all out. Pakistan lost their last nine wickets for only 33 runs. Where once they looked to touch 200, they couldnâ€t even get to 150.
This victory fired up the Indian fans on Twitter, who expressed their emotions in various forms. Even Indiaâ€s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, invoking Operation Sindoor.
Modi tweeted: “#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketersâ€

The blow all but sealed Indiaâ€s victory, and Gambhirâ€s table-thumping celebration became as much a part of the highlight reel as the shot itself. It was the 19.2 over, India needing just eight runs from five deliveries. At 113/1, they looked poised for a big total, with Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) setting the tone. But once Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav got into the act, wickets tumbled. Dinesh Karthik (Video grab) NEW DELHI: Ahead of the blockbuster Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik revealed the quirky superstition he has followed before big finals — a ritual he believes brings luck to the Indian team.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. There is one thing that I did and it’s become a bit of a superstition. Today, Asia Cup finals, India vs Pakistan. Let’s go. Let’s go, let’s go. So not doing a good job. But the point is not to iron it properly. The point is that I tried to iron it. Now on the day of the final, when I have ironed, India has won. That’s the good point.â€Karthik traced the origin of the ritual to his playing days in the West Indies. “I started this because when I was in the West Indies, they said it’ll take three days for the clothes to come back. And the final was the same day. So then I did it myself here, right now in India. If I give it, it’ll come back in 10 minutes. But still I have to do it. Okay, all the best, Team India. I have done my bit. Time for you guys to go out there and smash it,†he added.Watch:Dinesh Karthik’s quirky superstitionIndia head into the high-octane finale as firm favourites, unbeaten in the tournament with six consecutive wins, including two commanding victories over Pakistan — seven wickets in the group stage and six wickets in the Super Fours.Karthikâ€s superstition, which coincided with wins in previous World T20 and Champions Trophy finals, adds a playful twist to the pre-match buildup. IND Vs PAK Match Prediction: Match 19 of the Asia Cup 2025 will be the Final of the competition between two arch-rivals competing against one another for the third time in as many weeks. Despite being the two best Asian teams, India and Pakistan will compete in the final of the Asia Cup for the first time in the 41-year-long history of the Asia Cup.
The Indian cricket team come into this final as the only unbeaten team in this tournament. By far the best performing team in the Asia Cup 2025, they won all three of their games in Group A fairly comfortably, beating the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman with relative ease. Then, in the Super Fours, they thrashed Pakistan and Bangladesh to qualify for the final. However, their most recent game, a dead-rubber against Sri Lanka, was the most exciting match of this competition, which the Men in Blue won in the Super over.
As for Pakistan, they have proven themselves to be the second-best team in this tournament, but are still miles behind India. They beat the UAE and Oman in Group A but lost to India by a big margin. IND Vs PAK Final Dubai International Stadium Pitch Report
The pitches at the Dubai International Stadium are batting-friendly, which means that teams are expected to score big runs here. The pitch is by far a better batting surface in the second inning, as there is still some movement and stickiness in the first inning. The bounce here is consistent, and the ball comes nicely onto the bat. Pacers can do some damage early in the inning, but batters still dominate. Towards the middle of an inning, spinners come into play. While pitch does crack a bit throughout a match, batting second is still the way to go here.
