WWE is trying to clean up the mess—but theyâ€re doing it quietly.
Ringside News has learned that WWE has deleted all social media posts referencing the original “Invasion†name for next weekâ€s NXT vs TNA crossover special, signaling that the reported title change is already in motion.
This move comes after Sky News Arabia reported backlash from Israeli officials, who took issue with WWE naming the event Invasion on October 7—the anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attacks. Critics slammed the branding as insensitive and tone-deaf given the gravity of the date.
While WWE still hasnâ€t officially announced the name change, WrestleVotes recently broke the news that the event will now be called “Showdown.â€
“The NXT vs TNA ‘Invasion†show is getting a new name. Itâ€s now titled ‘Showdown.â€â€
Interestingly, on WWE.com, the event is now listed under the vague label “Special Eventâ€, with no specific title mentioned anywhere on the page—another quiet signal the rebrand is underway.
As of this writing—one hour before NXT goes live on the CW Network—WWE has not confirmed the change on air or online. But with every Invasion-related post now wiped from their channels, itâ€s clear theyâ€re trying to move forward without stoking the controversy.
The show, first introduced by Ava during No Mercy, is expected to feature two Survivor Series-style elimination matches and continue the rising momentum of the TNA–NXT crossover. But for now, WWE seems focused on getting past the headline drama and back to the ring.

WWE is backing off the “Invasion†name for its upcoming NXT vs TNA special after international backlash forced their hand.
According to WrestleVotes, the controversial event title is officially being changed. The cross-brand showdown—originally announced as “Invasionâ€â€”will now be called “Showdown.â€
“The NXT vs TNA ‘Invasion†show is getting a new name. Itâ€s now titled ‘Showdown.â€â€
This move comes after Sky News Arabia reported that Israeli officials expressed outrage over the original event name and date. WWEâ€s NXT special was set for October 7—coinciding with the anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel. Critics called the “Invasion†branding tone-deaf and deeply insensitive.
The special was first announced by Ava during No Mercy, with WWE promoting a full night of interpromotional chaos on the CW Network—including two Survivor Series-style elimination matches for both men and women.
WWE has not released an official statement on the name change yet, but this quiet switch seems to be their way of moving past the controversy without stoking further fire.
Despite the rebrand, the NXT and TNA crossover continues to pick up steam with fans and insiders expecting major storyline developments during Showdown. But itâ€s clear WWE wants the focus back on the wrestling—not global headlines.
