“What’s the lesson you take away from this? You’re better being lucky than good,” former Scotland midfielder Michael Stewart said on BBC Sportsound.

Luck does not last long, though, as Steve Clarke’s side found out against the Greeks in March.

It was a similar story in Athens in the first leg of their Nations League relegation play-off, with Scott McTominay’s first-half penalty earning the Scots a first-leg win.

In the second leg, Clarke’s men were totally outclassed and lost 3-0. Thursday marked the third straight match in which Greece have dominated Scotland.

“We were given a football lesson,” former Scotland defender Willie Miller said. “But we gave a lesson on winning.”

Former Scotland winger Neil McCann added: “Clarke will know that isn’t a vintage Scotland performance, but it was a vintage result.”

Performance aside, with seven points on the board and bottom seeds Belarus to face on Sunday, Clarke’s side have given themselves a great chance of ending the nation’s 27-year World Cup hoodoo.

However, the Scotland boss will be aware that poor displays could catch up on his side. How does he combat that?

Clarke’s Scotland look better when they embrace chaos and do not stand off it, especially in home matches, when they can use a rocking home crowd to their advantage.

For over an hour on Thursday, his team looked like it was playing with the handbrake on against a side ranked 40th in the world, just three places above Scotland.

The Tartan Army will demand a more front-footed approach when Belarus are welcomed to Hampden on Sunday. An expected win in that would put Scotland in a fantastic position.

Clarke will then have a month to address any worries before a potentially tenure-defining camp in November.

Jack Draper will work with Andy Murray’s former coach Jamie Delgado in a major change to his team.

The British number one has had a long-standing partnership with James Trotman and, while he will continue to be heavily involved, Delgado takes over as lead coach and will travel with Draper to the majority of tournaments.

A former British Davis Cup player who holds the men’s record for consecutive Wimbledon appearances with 23, Delgado began working with Murray in 2016, initially alongside Ivan Lendl, when the Scot enjoyed the most successful period of his career.

Delgado remained in Murray’s team until the end of the 2021 season and has since coached Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov.

Both players praised the impact of Delgado, 48, and, with Trotman keen to spend more time at home, Draper has moved to secure his services after his long-time partnership with Dimitrov ended last month.

The arrangement will begin in preseason, with Draper currently battling to recover from the left arm problem that has restricted him to only one match since Wimbledon.

Following his second-round exit at the All England Club, Draper was diagnosed with bone bruising, and an attempt to return at the US Open ended with him pulling out ahead of the second round before calling an early end to his season.

That ended the 23-year-old’s hopes of appearing at the ATP Finals for the first time, with Draper slipping to eighth in the rankings during his absence.

He is set to make his return to the court in December’s Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final in London.

And so the revamp of The Hundred begins, the sign of what the competition may be like following more than £500m of investment.

The consortium that paid most for a stake in any of the eight teams, the Tech Titans, have poached the most sought-after coach on the franchise circuit. In doing so, they reunite Andy Flower with Spirit director Mo Bobat, the pair that finally delivered the Indian Premier League title to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The last two of the eight investment deals were due to be completed this week and an announcement is thought to be imminent.

The Ambani Family, owners of IPL outfit Mumbai Indians, have paid around £60m for a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles. Cain International, co-founded by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, is spending about £40m for the same share in Trent Rockets.

Flower’s move could be the tip of the iceberg for players and coaches. The man he is replacing at Spirit, Justin Langer, would seem a natural fit for Manchester Originals, who have sold a majority stake to the owners of Lucknow Super Giants, Langer’s IPL team.

In the men’s competition in particular there is expected to be a huge shake-up of playing squads, with an auction then used to select players.

Franchises might be allowed to retain as few as four of their current playing group, possibly adding a limited number of direct signings before the auction. This would particularly impact the Invincibles, who have won the past three men’s Hundred competitions.

Greater investment in The Hundred is expected to attract big name men’s overseas players and one star attraction who could be involved in 2026 is Ravichandran Ashwin.

Whereas Indian men are barred from overseas leagues so long as they are playing international cricket or the IPL, legendary off-spinner Ashwin has retired from both. The 39-year-old is due to play in Australia’s Big Bash this winter.

Ashwin’s arrival could signal the arrival of other Indian megastars. Rohit Sharma is another who could be coming to the end of his time in international cricket and the IPL. Virat Kohli has a home in London, and London Spirit have just strengthened ties to his RCB.

After missing the last two weeks because of a shoulder injury, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy could be back on the field this week.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Worthy was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. Head coach Andy Reid was also optimistic in his assessment of Worthy.

“We’ll just evaluate him,” Reid said, per the Kansas City Star’sPete Sweeney. “(We’ll) take it day by day, but he feels good, so we’ll see.”

Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers after colliding with tight end Travis Kelce. After the injury, Reid designated Worthy as “day-to-day,” which was “an indication that the plan is to rehab and attempt to play with a brace — rather than immediate surgery,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

He returned to practice on Sept. 11 but was unable to return to action for the Chiefs’ Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 14. There was optimism that he’d be ready to go by Week 3, but he ultimately was still sidelined. Fortunately for the Chiefs, they were still able to get past the New York Giants 22-9.

â–¶ï¸Â  Full Chiefs-Giants Recap

The Chiefs selected Worthy with the 28th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and he put together a decent rookie year with 638 yards and six touchdowns. He added 104 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

While he was mostly average during the regular season, Worthy showed flashes of greatness in the Super Bowl. Though the Eagles walloped Kansas City, Worthy collected 157 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions.

The Chiefs are hoping to get that version of Worthy this season, but he’ll first have to return from injury.

Kansas City started the season 0-2 before finally getting into the win column last week. Things won’t get easier this week, though, as the Chiefs will take on Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

A racket Andy Murray used during his historic 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 Wimbledon men’s singles final victory over Novak Djokovic in 2013 recently sold for $73,200 (including the buyer’s premium) with Goldin Auctions.

It is the most paid for an Andy Murray item at auction.

Murray’s 2013 victory was the first time in 76 years that a British man had won at Wimbledon. Since World War I, Murray, who won again in 2016, and Fred Perry, who won in 1934, 1935 and 1936, are the only British men to have won Wimbledon. On the women’s singles side, a British woman hasn’t won Wimbledon since Virginia Wade in 1977.

The auction lot includes a letter of authenticity from Resolution Photomatching, which says it made a “conclusive” match to the racket’s use in the Wimbledon final, as well as Murray’s second-round and semifinals matches. (The LOA also states that the racket was used in a match June 26, before the tournament.)

The auction for Murray’s racket was hotly contested; there were 49 bids from when the lot opened Aug. 29 to its conclusion.

The record paid for a tennis racket belongs to a Babolat racket that Rafael Nadal used during his 2017 French Open-winning final. The racket sold for more than $157,000 in June.
