Darby Allin believes Sting’s son has what it takes to succeed in the ring.

The younger Steven Borden made his official wrestling debut earlier this month, teaming with JD Drake against Allin & Killer Kross in a tag team match. The bout was held at an art gallery in New York City as part of an event Allin was putting on.

While appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show today, Allin said he’s been working as Borden’s main coach getting him ready to step into the ring. He’s been training Borden for a little over a year and believes his debut went well.

“He had his first match last week. I wrestled him in a tag team match. It was good,” Allin said. “For his first match, yeah, it was good.”

Though he wasn’t previously interested in pursuing a career in wrestling, Borden decided he wanted to start training after being involved with his father’s last match. Because Sting gave him so much, Allin was more than happy to help out his son.

Helwani asked Allin how far he believes Borden can go in wrestling.

“As far as he wants to take it — as far as he wants to take it,” Allin responded.

Allin said Borden is just going by his real name as of now. He’s not wearing face paint but physically looks like his father.

Borden was a football player at the University of Kentucky when he was in college.

The final match of Sting’s in-ring career took place at AEW Revolution in March 2024, when he and Allin defeated The Young Bucks. Allin told Helwani that his experience working with Sting showed him how to be humble and that you can have peace after wrestling.

“Outside of the ring, I feel like he forgets he’s Sting half the time,” Allin said. “Someone that was in his position, you wouldn’t even think that he’s Sting because he’s so chill and he’s so giving to everybody. So it taught me to really keep a level head on and just be humble and nice to everybody.”

Darby Allin loves the atmosphere in AEW at the moment with everyone working together toward a common goal.

During a Monday appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Allin praised the backstage energy in AEW right now, saying it’s much better than it was a few years ago. He believes everyone is focused on putting on the best product possible.

“It’s amazing,” Allin said about the vibe in AEW. “I’m not just saying that. Say like a few years ago, you definitely felt, like, this tension. But now it’s like — everybody’s on the same page. Let’s make this place as good as possible. And I feel like a lot of people have to truly understand how good they have it. Because Tony doesn’t — he wants everybody in the ring and in their personal life to be happy. That’s a really good energy. Where it’s like, ‘Hey, everybody, be the best versions of yourself.’ And I feel like right now more than ever, everybody’s on the same wavelength. Everybody has the same goals.”

When asked about what changed to improve things, Allin gave a blunt response.

“The cancer got cut out,” he said. “Just egotistical wrestlers that don’t want to lose.”

Allin did not name any names but said there was more than one person. He also clarified that CM Punk, who he is friends with, is not one of the people he was talking about.

“It’s the greatest thing in the world, but it’s staged,” Allin said about pro wrestling. “So if you’re going to have an ego about that, get out of the f*cking sport. Go be in the UFC. Go try, you know what I mean, don’t be bringing that sh*t here. This is about having fun. This is about, like, just putting on a good energy. It’s like, ‘Come on, man. Just stop.’ And that was like the biggest thing with me — once all that got cleared up, I really felt, ‘Okay, cool. Let’s rock.’ But I just don’t like egos. I can’t stand them. Can’t stand them.”

Allin said he’s having the time of his life in AEW right now and wants to represent the company as best as he can.

“I’m willing to go places for this company that no one’s f*cking willing to go,” he said. “I will go to the summit of Mount Everest with the AEW flag and wave it from the top of the world because I’m so passionate about what this place gives me.”

Allin is feuding with Jon Moxley at the moment, with the two set to clash in an “I Quit” match at AEW WrestleDream this Saturday.

AEW security takes the use of Molotov cocktails seriously.

In the closing moments of Dynamite this week, Darby Allin was tackled to the ground as he appeared intent on throwing fire at Jon Moxley. The quick reaction from security led some to believe they might not have known the moment was part of the show.

On Sunday, our own Bryan Alvarez posted an update on X for subscribers, writing:

“Security guy on Dynamite, Sam, was 100% smartened up on the Darby spot, but he wanted to make it look legit, like what would happen if some lunatic actually pulled out a bomb or something on a show. Heâ€s been working security for wrestling dating back to ECW Atlas security days.â€

Sam Hemingway is the head of security for AEW. Two days after the segment on Dynamite, he posted the following message to social media:

“My actions had nothing to do with the ‘show’ and everything to do with the safety of others. You can debate the tackle. I’m just glad we’re not dealing with the alternative headlines that read unhinged AEW talent seriously injured Jacksonville fans. Numerous lawsuits are filed.”

Up next in the Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley feud is an I Quit match scheduled for AEW WrestleDream on October 18 in St. Louis. Moxley previously defeated Allin in a Coffin Match at AEW All Out last month in Toronto.

The feud between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin rages on.

During a New York Comic-Con discussion panel on Friday, Darby Allin interrupted a panel and asked Moxley if he really thought heâ€d quit at WrestleDream. The two quickly got into a brawl with Allin smashing a water bottle over Moxleyâ€s back.

The two are to meet in an I Quit match at WrestleDream on October 18. The two have continued to feud after they took part in a coffin match at All Out. Although Darby Allin had the upper hand towards the end of the match, a returning PAC interfered, allowing Moxley to get Allin into the coffin for the win. However, Allin retaliated by escaping from the coffin and lighting Moxley on fire.

On this weekâ€s Dynamite Title Tuesday, the program ended with Allin costing PAC a match against Orange Cassidy. As Allin taunted him in the crowd, PAC chased Allin but Allin threw something in his eyes. The rest of the Death Riders came out but Allin produced a taser to keep them away. Despite this, Moxley continued to go after Allin until he produced a molotov cocktail, apparently threatening to throw it at Moxley. Security finally came in and ended the chaos as the show went off the air.

The panel on Friday was on the upcoming Justice League comic book crossover special between AEW and DC Comics.

A WWE Hall of Famer’s son has made his pro wrestling debut against AEW’s Darby Allin and Karrion Kross.

Darby Allin is one of the most charismatic stars in the wrestling industry at this time. The star has created some scintillating milestones for himself, including climbing Mount Everest and setting himself on fire while inside a body bag. On the other side, Karrion Kross is one of the most over stars in the industry, with his immense fame going beyond his WWE days. Kross has now transitioned into the independent scene full-time and has been lighting it on fire with his performances.

Now, both Kross and Allin teamed up to take on the son of WWE Hall of Famer Sting. The Icon’s son, Steve Borden, made his pro wrestling debut.

WWE Hall Of Famer Sting’s Son Officially Kicked Off His Pro Wrestling Career

At 52W Hardway, Steve Borden finally kick-started his pro wrestling journey by taking on AEW star Darby Allin and former WWE star Karrion Kross. 52W is a cool art exhibit where Allin puts on matches as one of the organizers. He also performs in them at times. In the match, Borden teamed up with JD Drake.

The gallery also showcases the art from Raymond Pettibon. Allin happens to be Pettibon’s friend.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Borden inside the squared circle.

AEW

During Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution 2024, his sons, Garrett and Steven, both made their way down to the ring, donning his “Surfer Sting” Great American Bash 1990 attire and his red Wolfpac “Crow” Sting attire respectively. As previously reported, Sting’s younger son, Steven, is training to follow in his father’s footsteps and his first match has been announced.

According to a press release for the upcoming 52W Hardway show in New York City has revealed that Borden will be performing a live match alongside Darby Allin and former WWE talent Killer Kross. Additionally, the show will include others like AR Fox, Sid Ellington, Kiran Grey, Timothy Thatcher, and surprise musical performances. The aforementioned show is further described as an art exhibition, which will feature drawings by Raymond Pettibon and his lifelong love for pro wrestling, and that all the bouts for the show have been organized by Allin to spotlight all the wrestlers involved.

During a podcast appearance late last year, Allin commented on Borden’s progress in training and noted that neither party intended to rush him. Based on this, it seems that they intend to have second-generation wrestler try his hand in front of a smaller audience before likely debuting elsewhere. So far, it’s unclear whether he’ll don face paint like his father, or instead create his own character. In the past, Borden chose football over pro wrestling, despite having good things to say about Sting’s legacy in pro wrestling, but his participation in his father’s final match has seemingly swayed him to try to follow in his father’s footsteps.

After climbing Mount Everest earlier this year, AEW star Darby Allin continues to broaden his horizons in new ways. The wrestler is set to take part in an exhibition alongside Raymond Pettibon, the award-winning artist who designed the Black Flag logo among many other projects, and AEW Special Projects Manager Charlie Ramone.

The exhibition, which is titled HARDWAY, will run from September 26 through October 11 at the 52 Walker art gallery in New York City. Featuring works of art from Pettibon inspired by his love of pro wrestling, Allin’s participation will consist of him wrestling live at the venue on October 3 and 10. There will be additional matches as well as live music on both of those nights, curated by Allin, and the exhibition will include drawings and wrestling props created by Ramone.

It hasn’t been announced who Allin will wrestle at either of the exhibition dates, or what other wrestlers might take part. However, it was indicated that they’ll be “up-and-coming figures” from the industry.

According to the press release, HARDWAY will explore the intersection of performative and genuine violence, and it will “scrutinize and satirize American myths of masculinity, power, and spectacle.” Pettibon’s work is described as bringing wrestling’s homoerotic subtext to the surface, while Ramone’s drawings are in tribute to the industry’s connection with the punk rock and metal subcultures.

It was also noted that Allin is currently working to construct a skate park in McDonough, Georgia, where he grew up. In the short-term, though, Allin first has to wrestle on next week’s “AEW Dynamite,” where he’ll team with Kris Statlander against Wheeler Yuta and Marina Shafir of the Death Riders. Then, Allin will face Jon Moxley in an I Quit match at AEW WrestleDream on October 18.

Darby Allin with a flamethrower

AEW/Triller TV

Darby Allin challenged Jon Moxley to an I Quit match at AEW WrestleDream.

Moxley had emerged after the main event pitting AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander against Mina Shirakawa had ended, with Wheeler Yuta coming out to meet the victorious champion with the belief that she was going to be joining the Death Riders.Â

Statlander declined the offer and made a quick retreat, leaving the Death Riders to contend with Allin as his music preceded his entrance, equipped with a flamethrower.Â

Allin directed the flames toward Moxley and the Riders, backing them up and even causing Moxley to trip over the ring steps. Allin stood atop the ring steps as Moxley and the others took their leave, making the challenge for them to meet at WrestleDream on October 18 in an I Quit match.Â

Allin is searching for his first win over Moxley in what will be their sixth match since June 14, 2019, having lost to him in their Coffin Match at All Out last Saturday. Allin appeared to have that match won, had it not been for the return of PAC, though he would get his revenge later in the event as he stuffed Moxley in a bodybag and lit it on fire.Â

ESPN didnâ€t just stream WrestlePalooza—they showed up in full force.

During the Fightful Select Backstage Report, Sean Ross Sapp revealed that top ESPN executives were backstage at WWEâ€s WrestlePalooza, showing just how serious the network is about its new $1.6 billion deal with WWE. This wasnâ€t just a routine meet-and-greet—sources told Fightful that ESPNâ€s internal push for WWE content even surpassed how they rolled out UFC.

“There were a number of ESPN execs at WrestlePalooza… ESPN sources told us that the push for WWE content even eclipsed when UFC was brought on board. Those that we spoke to said there isnâ€t anything resembling the stigma to pro wrestling that there once was.â€

Sapp made it clear that wrestling has earned full respect within ESPNâ€s corporate culture.

“The stigma around wrestling is gone inside ESPN.â€

Thatâ€s a major shift from how pro wrestling was viewed just a few years ago, especially by traditional sports outlets like ESPN. But with Disney doubling down on its live-event strategy, WWE is now being positioned right alongside the NFL, NBA, and UFC.

This full embrace comes after a controversial streaming launch. WrestlePalooza was meant to kick off the new ESPN Unlimited tier, but fans were left frustrated after discovering their standard cable subscriptions wouldnâ€t grant access. Sapp explained that the company never intended to make ESPN Unlimited available on cable—this was always about pushing people toward Hulu + Live TV.

“They want you to sign up for Hulu Live, because thatâ€s their deal. Thatâ€s what they want. Thatâ€s their goal. Not cable. Not Spectrum.â€

Despite the backlash, ESPN appears fully committed to wrestling—on every level. The backstage presence of top executives, the internal enthusiasm, and the strategic focus all point toward one thing: WWE is no longer a guilty pleasure for ESPN. Itâ€s a priority.
