The India vs UAE encounter on Wednesday lived shorter than anyone would have anticipated. The Suryakumar Yadav-led unit began its Asia Cup 2025 tournament with a thumping win over the home team in Dubai, dismantling them for only 57 runs and hauling down the target in just 4.3 overs.
UAE’s eventual score of 57 runs is the least any team has made against India in men’s T20Is, and it was also UAE’s own joint-lowest in the shortest form of the game.
Courtesy of Abhishek Sharma’s 16-ball 30-run knock and Shubman Gill’s 20* off 9, punctuated by Suryakumar Yadav’s seven runs off only a couple of deliveries, India chased the 58-run target in 27 balls, winning the game with 93 deliveries to spare.
This is India’s biggest win in men’s T20I in relation to balls left in the chase and the second-biggest margin of win for a Full Member team.
Suryakumar Yadav had won the toss and inserted UAE to bat first. After a 26-run opening stand, which was broken by Jasprit Bumrah, UAE began falling apart and lost three wickets in an over to Kuldeep. Kuldeep eventually finished with outstanding, Man of the Match-worthy figures of 4/7, while Shivam Dube took 3/4.
Such was UAE’s collapse that they managed merely 10 runs after being 47/2. To cap it all off, the match lasted 17.4 overs, the shortest completed T20I involving India, excluding rain-impacted games.
This game sent a huge message to Pakistan, who themselves are preparing for a new generation after the omission of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.
IND vs PAK: What is the “subtle message” from Suryakumar Yadav to Pakistan?
The India vs Pakistan match is slated for Sunday, September 14, in Dubai, and India’s bowlers are going to provide a tough challenge for the inexperienced Pakistani middle order. After the IND vs UAE match, the Indian skipper had a few words to say ahead of the IND vs PAK encounter.
Commentator Sanjay Manjrekar prompted Suryakumar Yadav to say whether the margin and fashion of India’s huge win against the UAE would send a “subtle message” to Pakistan before the India vs Pakistan clash.
Suryakumar, though, laughed it off, saying, “Everyone is excited for the game against Pakistan,” as the handful of people in the stands cheered him on.
On India’s dominant show against the UAE, the India captain praised the players, “Clinical performance from the boys, we wanted good attitude and energy on the field, and that’s what we got.”
Pakistan will open their campaign on Friday against Oman before the spicy India vs Pakistan contest takes center stage.
