Sting speaks on John Cenaâ€s upcoming retirement.
Speaking to Going Ringside in a new interview, WWE Hall of Famer Sting shared his thoughts on John Cenaâ€s retirement from in-ring competition.
“Man, kudos to John,†he said. “Heâ€s one of the greatest of all time. I love to see it. Iâ€m rooting for him and hoping it turns out to be phenomenal. Iâ€m sure it will.â€
Elsewhere in the same interview, Sting was asked to name his favorite feud of all time.
“Oh, itâ€s got to be Ric Flair,†he said. “Of course, the Nature Boy. He put me on the map… It was July of 1990 when I won the world title for the first time. And then back in March of 1988, I had my very first world title match that really put me on the map.â€
During a recent interview with The Ringerâ€s Bill Simmons, John Cena said he will always remain involved with WWE in a non-wrestling capacity.
“Youâ€ll see me at WWE events,†Cena said. “Iâ€m going to be involved as long as they will have me until I am need to until I need to be replaced. But I will look like this (wearing a suit and tie).â€
When asked if fans could see him calling matches, Cena said that while he would love to do commentary, he might not be able to pursue the role due to its full-time commitment requirements.
“I would love to do it,†he said. “I think the announcing crew we have now. Iâ€m such a big fan of Stu Bennett. I think heâ€s carving out an excellent legacy for himself. I know Michael Coleâ€s getting a little long in the tooth. Heâ€s probably wanting to move on. I would love to sit at the table. I think we have — and I love listening to Big E call.
“You have to have the time to regularly commit to be an announcer. Like, I know Pat McAfee struggled with that. He split himself in a bunch of different directions, and gosh, I donâ€t blame anybody for going until you canâ€t go, But, like, he didnâ€t have it in the tank. Like, he canâ€t be — you canâ€t be everywhere at once.†[H/T WrestlingInc]
