    Ross Taylor Comes Back to International Cricket: After announcing his retirement in 2021, the former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor has decided to come out of retirement. Ross Taylor on his Instagram posted a picture of himself with the Samoa Cricket Jersey on Sep 5, 2025, and in the caption stated, “Coming out of retirement. It’s official—I’m proud to announce that I’ll be pulling on the blue and representing Samoa in cricket. This is more than just a return to the game I love. It’s the huge honour to represent my heritage, culture, villages, and family.

    Ross Taylor Comes Back to International Cricket, But Not in a Kiwi Jersey

    However, Taylor will not be playing for the New Zealand Cricket Team, instead, he will be playing with the Samoa Cricket Team in the Asia-East Asia-Pacific T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier. According to the official website of ICC, Taylor’s mother is from Saluafata on the island of Upolu. Tyalor holds the Samoan passport through his mother’s heritage. As per his Instagram post, Taylor is honored to play for Samoa Cricket and is proud that he has a chance to represent his culture and family.

    Ross Taylor’s Career with New Zealand

    Ross Taylor made his official debut in 2006 in an ODI match against the West Indies. Throughout his career, Taylor played 223 ODI matches for the New Zealand cricket team and scored over 8576 runs.

    He made his T20I debut in 2006 against in a match with the Sri Lankan cricket team. Taylor played 102 matches in his T20i career and scored over 1909 runs. In his test cricket debut, Taylor scored fifteen runs in a match against South Africa. In 2021, Taylor won the ICC Test Cricket Championship with New Zealand by defeating Team India. He played his last match with the New Zealand cricket team in 2022 in a match against the Netherlands, where he received a standing ovation from the crowd.

    Ross Taylor was born in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. His parents are Neil Taylor and Naoupu Lote-Taylor. Taylor’s ethnicity is mixed, his father is from Masterton, New Zealand, and his mother is from Saluafata. Taylor was introduced to cricket by his father. He grew up playing kilikiti, which is the Samoan version of cricket.
