Nearly a week after Mercedes Mone won the interim Ring of Honor Women’s TV title, the reigning titleholder announced she is ready to return.
During Thursday’s ROH on HonorClub, Red Velvet appeared (seen below) to say that she is medically cleared and was focused on rebuilding her body. She told Mone to enjoy her time with the title and remember her face as the next time she sees it, her entire empire crumbles.
AEW & ROH head Tony Khan revealed in July that Velvet was injured and a new interim champion would be crowned. Our Dave Meltzer reported that she suffered a neck injury during a June 20 match in CMLL during AEW Grand Slam Mexico week at Arena Mexico. She hasn’t wrestled anywhere since.
Mina Shirakawa became the interim champion, got injured herself, and then lost the title to Mone at this past Saturday’s WrestleDream.
Mone, who currently holds 12 title belts, is teaming with ROH Women’s World Champion Athena in the inaugural AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament that begins next week so there’s no clear answer as to when a unification match could happen. She is also slated to challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World title at next month’s Full Gear.
