Representative Photo (TIL Creatives) Jalaj Saxena has joined Maharashtra for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, ending his nine-year association with Kerala. The Maharashtra Cricket Association has confirmed the signing of Saxena, who began his career with Madhya Pradesh in 2005-06 before moving to Kerala in 2016-17.The MCA highlighted Saxena’s credentials as one of India’s top domestic all-rounders, noting his consistent performances across all formats. The association emphasized Saxena’s tactical knowledge, performance under pressure, and mentoring abilities as key assets for the team.Saxena, aged 38, follows Prithvi Shaw as the second major signing for Maharashtra this season, with Shaw transferring from Mumbai.Despite never playing for India internationally, Saxena has impressive domestic statistics with 7,060 runs at an average of 33.77, including 14 centuries and 34 half-centuries in 150 first-class matches. He has also taken 484 wickets with 34 five-wicket hauls. His cricket experience extends to 109 List A and 73 T20 matches, along with stints at Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings in the IPL.Maharashtra has strengthened their management by appointing Shaun Williams as cricket director. Williams previously served as head coach from 2008-12, leading the team to Ranji Trophy quarterfinals and a National T20 title.MCA president Rohit Pawar said: “Jalaj Saxena is an immensely talented and experienced cricketer whose achievements in the Ranji Trophy and domestic cricket are truly exceptional. He stands among India’s best all-rounders. His vast experience will greatly benefit the younger players in the Maharashtra team, and his inclusion strengthens the team significantly.”Saxena, who recently announced his departure from Kerala on social media, expressed his enthusiasm about joining Maharashtra.“It is a matter of great pride for me to join the Maharashtra cricket team. Maharashtra cricket has a rich legacy, and I am fully prepared to contribute my best for the team. It is an honour to play alongside players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw, and Ankit Bawne, as well as many talented newcomers. The Maharashtra Premier League is an excellent platform that helps upcoming players showcase their talent.”Williams added: “His all-around abilities, coupled with his experience and leadership, will be invaluable for both the team and young cricketers seeking guidance. Jalaj Saxena is certainly a key prospect for Maharashtra this season.”
