A huge shout out to all the participants and the volunteer coaches for a strong start to Week 1 of the 10-week PING MIND pilot, based in South Cornwall!
What makes PING MIND different:
While coaching in table tennis frequently centers on the technical, tactical, and physical dimensions of performance, PING MIND gives equal attention to the psychological side — helping young players of all abilities to build mental skills, not just improve shots. Supporting good mental health, these include tools that are useful in sport and in everyday life.
Week 1: We introduced the programme and got everyone to complete several psychological assessments:
- Athlete Coping Skills Inventory
- Perceived Stress Scale
- Strengths & Difficulties Questionnaire
Coming up (Week 2): Goal-setting — aligning personal goals, table tennis goals, what players want to improve technically/tactically, physically, and mentally.
Partners & Support:
Co-led by Table Tennis England (TTE) and St Austell Table Tennis Club, with support from Creekside TTC, Falmouth Docks TTC and Bridge TTC.
In collaboration with Barnados, Young People Cornwall, Brannel School, Better Leisure.
Funded by Cornwall Councilâ€s Capacity Building Fund
