    OHL Roundup: IceDogs cool off Steelheads

    Kevin He scored three goals, Ryan Roobroeck and Riley Patterson each had a goal and assist, and the visiting Niagara IceDogs beat the Brampton Steelheads 5-1 in Ontario Hockey League action on Sunday.

    Braidy Wassilyn chipped in with two assists for the IceDogs (9-4-0-1), who outshot the Steelheads 31-30 at the CAA Centre.

    Mason Zebeski scored for the Steelheads (6-7-0-0), who trailed 2-0 after the first period. The second period was scoreless.

    Netminder Charlie Robertson stopped 29 of 30 shots for the IceDogs, while Luke Johnson stopped 26 of 30 shots for the Steelheads.

    Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.

    Elsewhere in the OHL on Sunday:

    SARNIA, Ont. — The visiting London Knights scored a goal in each period and got a 21-save performance from netminder Sebastian Gatto in beating the Sarnia Sting 3-0.

    Jared Woolley, Rene Van Bommel and Sam O’Reilly (empty-netter) scored for the Knights (7-2-3-0), who outshot the Sting 26-21. Evan Van Gorp chipped in with two assists.

    Netminder Patrick Quinlan stopped 23 of 25 shots for the Sting (4-6-2-0).

    Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.

    GUELPH, Ont. — Noah Jenken’s power-play goal at 16:18 of the third period snapped a 3-3 deadlock and lifted the Guelph Storm to a 4-3, come-from-behind win over the visiting Ottawa 67’s.

    Alex McLean’s power-play goal at 16:31 of the second period erased a 3-2 deficit for the Storm (6-5-2-0). Leo Serlin and Rowan Topp also scored for the hosts. Ethan Miedema and Charlie Paquette each chipped in with two assists.

    Jasper Kuhta, Brayden Krawczyk and Ryan White scored for the 67’s (7-5-1-0), who outshot the Storm 37-30. Cooper Foster had two assists.

    The Storm went 2-for-3 on the power play, while the 67’s were 0-for-2.

    SUDBURY, Ont. — Kieron Walton had two goals and three assists, Coughlan Chase scored twice, and the Sudbury Wolves whipped the visiting Peterborough Petes 8-2.

    Artem Gonchar, Alex Pharand, Nathan Villeneuve and Liam Ladds also scored for the Wolves (4-8-1-0), who led 2-0 after the first period and 5-1 heading into the third. Villeneuve added three assists, while Ethan Dean, Luca Bionda and Pharand each chipped in with two.

    Gerry DiCunzolo and Adam Levac scored for the Petes (6-6-1-1), who were outshot 37-34.

    The Wolves went 3-for-5 on the power play, while the Petes were 0-for-7.

    FLINT, Mich. — Jimmy Lombardi and Xavier Tessier each scored twice as the Flint Firebirds beat the visiting Owen Sound Attack 6-2.

    Alex Kostov and Chase Hull also scored for the Firebirds (7-4-1-0), who were outshot 41-31. Christopher Thibodeau chipped in with three assists, while Nathan Aspinall had a pair.

    Cole Zurawski scored both goals for the Attack (9-5-0-1), who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 heading into the third. The Attack went 1-for-6 on the power play.

    Firebirds netminder Mason Vaccari stopped 39 of 41 shots.

    KITCHENER, Ont. — Luca Romano scored twice, Christian Humphreys had two assists, and the Kitchener Rangers edged the visiting North Bay Battalion 3-1.

    Cameron Reid had a goal and assist for the Rangers (9-3-2-0), who were outshot 30-21.

    The Rangers went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Battalion went 0-for-4.

    Lirim Amidovski scored for the Battalion (7-7-0-0).

    Rangers netminder Chritian Kirsch made 29 saves, while Mike McIvor stopped 18 of 20 shots for the Battalion.

    OSHAWA, Ont. — Adam Benak scored twice, Jake O’Brien had a goal and three assists, and the visiting Brantford Bulldogs beat the Oshawa Generals 4-1.

    Lucas Moore also scored for the Bulldogs (11-0-1-1), who led 1-0 after the first period and 4-0 heading into the third.

    Owen Griffin scored for the Generals (5-10-0-0), who were outshot 25-19.

    The Bulldogs went 1-for-1 on the power play, while the Generals were 1-for-2.

    SPIRIT 6, SPITFIRES 5 (SO)

    WINDSOR, Ont. — Dimian Zhilkin scored the winning goal in a three-round shootout as the visiting Saginaw Spirit edged the Windsor Spitfires 6-5.

    Zhilkin scored three goals in regulation time for the Spirit (5-4-3-2), while Egor Barabanov and Xander Velliaris netted singles. Levi Harper, Nikita Klepov and Barabanov each chipped in with two assists.

    Ethan Belchetz and Liam Greentree each scored twice for the Spitfires (12-2-1-1), who led 2-1 after the first period and 4-2 heading into the third. Cole Davis netted a single. Wyatt Kennedy, Carson Woodall and Conor Walton all added two assists.

    The Spirit outshot the Spitfires 26-23 and went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Spitfires were 2-for-3 with the man advantage.
