BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh volleyball returned to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall after a three-match road stand on Friday night, welcoming the Lafayette Leopards on Halloween in The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, part of Jefferson Health. The Mountain Hawks swept the Leopards 3-0, avenging their loss from earlier in the season.
Lehigh (10-11, 4-8 PL) was on fire to open the first set, jumping ahead to an 11-2 lead over Lafayette (4-17, 2-9 PL). However, the Leopards stormed back, slowly but surely chipping into the lead. Eventually, Lafayette tied the match 18-18 and eventually came within striking distance at 24-20. The Mountain Hawks rallied to tie the match at 24 and eventually pull out a 27-25 win in set one.
Set two was once again very competitive, as both teams hit under .200 in a defensive battle. The two teams remained in lockstep until Lehigh broke open their lead with a 6-0 run to lead 18-11. The Leopards managed to pull within one at 23-22, but the Mountain Hawks closed out the set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Lehigh put forth a dominant performance in set three, hitting a blistering .480 while limiting Lafayette to a -.143 hitting percentage. The Mountain Hawks blitzed the Leopards offensively, recording 14 kills to only two errors on route to a 25-11 win and rivalry sweep.
Senior Natalie Luscomb was on fire, tallying 14 kills on an efficient .435 hitting percentage. Junior Ufuoma Omene also had an efficient night, posting nine kills on .400 hitting. Junior Abby Felkai led the way with 17 assists while Madison McCartney and Luscomb each reached seven total blocks defensively.
The Leopards were led by Auma Mbeche-Obhiambo with ten kills.
