Milan Lucic is getting another crack at resuming his professional hockey career.
The St. Louis Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, announced Tuesday that the 37-year-old forward has been signed to a professional tryout.
This comes after Lucic signed a professional tryout contract with the Blues in August. In two pre-season games, he notched a pair of assists and averaged 11:58 of ice time.
On Oct. 7, the opening day of the 2025-26 season, Blues GM Doug Armstrong told media that the tryout had expired and that Lucic was dealing with an injury.
“He got banged up last couple of games,†Armstrong said at the time. “His PTO is obviously over. What weâ€re going to do is weâ€re going to rehab him here and get him back health-wise to 100 per cent and likely reconnect on an in-season PTO to get him up and running and see where heâ€s at then.â€
Lucic last played in the NHL during the 2023-2024 season, appearing in four games for the Boston Bruins. At that time, Lucic took an indefinite leave of absence from the Bruins and later entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. The Blues said in the summer that he had completed the program and been reinstated by the NHL.
Prosecutors dropped a domestic violence charge against Lucic in February 2024 after he was arrested in November 2023 on suspicion of assault and battery on a family member.
The Vancouver native has 233 goals and 353 assists for 586 points in 1,177 career games with the Bruins, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings.
