Maxxine Dupri won her first WWE title with some assistance from AJ Lee. For Dupri, the icing on the cake is that she also finally humbled Becky Lynch after months of being berated.
Despite a landmark moment in the 28-year-old’s career, The Black Widow’s appearance was the bigger story from a long-term perspective. Her return sets up a future high-profile showdown with The Man, and also all but confirms the rumor of her involvement in the titular contest at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29.
Maxxine Dupri Comments On AJ Lee’s Interference And Whether It Overshadowed Her WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title Win
Maxxine Dupri and Becky Lynch’s storyline commenced after the summer, when Lynch chose Dupri as the appropriate opponent to defend the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. According to the Irish star, her much younger rival was worthless, making it an easy win.
Be that as it may, Dupri consistently proved that she belongs, winning matches over Lynch via count-out, disqualification, and now, finally, via pinfall. This past Monday was the culmination of a months-long buildup. So, did AJ Lee’s appearance overshadow this very special occasion for the 28-year-old star? Let’s hear it from Maxxine herself on RAW Recap:
I’m not going to lie to you, I wasn’t even thinking about that because I firmly believe that if you use a candle to light another candle, the other one doesn’t lose its flame. There is room for both of us to shine in that moment, and we proved that tonight. Did you hear the crowd when [AJ Lee] came out? It was insane!”
AJ Lee has been a thorn in Becky Lynch’s side ever since her WWE comeback in September 2025, a decade after she retired from in-ring competition. At Wrestlepalooza, The Black Widow put away Becky Lynch in a Mixed Tag Team match, also featuring their husbands, CM Punk and Seth Rollins, respectively.
With Lee having once again caused an embarrassment for Lynch, a feud between the two seems inevitable. Such a contest deserves to happen when the lights shine bright next April, as WrestleMania returns to Las Vegas.
