DALLAS — Mavericks power forward/center Anthony Davis will be sidelined for at least seven to 10 more days while he recovers from his left calf strain, the team announced Sunday evening.
Davis missed his ninth straight game Sunday, a 138-133 overtime win against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The latest timetable was determined after Davis was reevaluated over the weekend.
“He wants to be out there to help us,” Mavs coach Jason Kidd said. “But this gives him seven to 10 days to get better or to get stronger. Hopefully, in seven to 10 days, he’s back on the floor.”

Davis originally targeted the Nov. 8 road game against the Washington Wizards — the Mavs’ lone win in November before Sunday — as his return date. That plan was overruled by Mavs governor Patrick Dumont, sources told ESPN.
Days later, Dumont made it clear during a meeting with people involved with Davis’ care that he would not approve the 10-time All-Star’s return until he was provided medical metrics that indicated there was no risk of aggravating the calf strain or suffering a related, potentially catastrophic injury, sources said.
In doing so, Dumont sided with Mavs director of health and performance Johann Bilsborough’s urging to take a cautious approach over the clearance from Davis’ personal medical staff, which was added to the team’s payroll this season.
One major concern is that Davis could rupture his left Achilles tendon if he rushes back before the calf strain is fully recovered, as Indiana Pacers superstar Tyrese Haliburton did during the NBA Finals.
Davis has played in only 14 games, plus a couple of play-in outings, as the headliner in the return package of the controversial Luka Doncic trade, which eventually led to Mavs general manager Nico Harrison’s firing on Tuesday.
Davis was recovering from an abdominal injury at the time of the trade. With Harrison under fire, Davis rushed back to play in the Mavs’ first home game after the deal, dominating the first half of a win over the Houston Rockets before suffering an adductor strain that was related to his previous injury. Davis missed the next six weeks.
