Matt Hardy speaks on the possibility of The Hardys returning to WWE for one last run.
On the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the TNA star was about about the future of The Hardys in WWE. Matt said he would like to spend more time in TNA but, at the same time, appear in WWE as a legacy act for shots on RAW, SmackDown, and NXT.
“I think in a perfect world to optimize stuff, I would like to see myself and Jeff spend a little more time with TNA,†Matt Hardy said. “And I would like to see this partnership grow a little bit, because I think WWE looks at us as legacy acts. We were WWE, born and bred. And maybe we do stick our heads back in NXT, do another little run there. Maybe we stick our heads into RAW, do a small run there. Or maybe we stick our heads in a SmackDown, do a small run there.
“I definitely think there is a lot of interesting, exciting stuff that can be done. Especially if we are used as novelty acts. I think thatâ€s where Jeff and I are at the best if doing something for WWE, if we come in like a novelty act.
“Itâ€s not like weâ€re going to be there and weâ€re booking all the way from Wrestlemania 44 to 45, brother. Weâ€re going to do a solid year on TV, whatever. I think when we come in and we have a short, explosive little run, I think thatâ€s where weâ€re used in our most optimal way. So weâ€ll see. You know, itâ€s pro wrestling, and never say never. Anything could happen in pro wrestling in 2026. Anything can happen, weâ€ll see.â€
But is that a realistic possibility?
When asked if he believed what he said was a realistic possibility as a contracted TNA talent or if he thought heâ€d need to sign a WWE deal for something like this to happen, Hardy said the feedback he got during their latest run in NXT was strong and valuable so he wouldnâ€t rule it out due to how strong the current partnership is between the two companies.
“I think the reactions that Jeff and I got and the feedback to Jeff and I, once again, appearing on the WWE product, was so strong and was valuable, because they know weâ€re willing to work with people, weâ€re willing to play ball, weâ€re willing to do whatâ€s right for business and and make new stars. I mean, we love doing that in TNA,†Matt Hardy admitted. “In TNA, itâ€s a place we can go, and itâ€s probably a little easier to keep a prevalent position.
“But also, too, we are trying to go out of our way to make people as well and to elevate everybody around the whole brand. And I feel like Jeff and I have been very successful at doing that at TNA, so it makes us very happy, very, very proud of how much TNA has grown over the last year and a half. When youâ€re asking me, do I think itâ€s feasible or possible as far as doing this with WWE? Yes, I donâ€t think I would rule it out, especially considering how strong the partnership is currently.â€
There are plenty of matches on the table for The Hardys in WWE
When asked who on the WWE main roster theyâ€d still like to work with, Hardy namedropped the Wyatt Sicks, Street Profits, DIY, New Day, and the Motor City Machine Guns.
“Probably anyone that we have not worked with,†Matt Hardy said. “I mean, weâ€ve said it before, we would love to do a Broken Matt, Brother Nero with the Wyatt Sicks. Just in some way and in some kind of capacity, that would be very fun to do. Jeffâ€s answer? He goes to the Street Profits always. DIY is someone that weâ€d never wrestled against.
“The Motor City Machine Guns are someone that weâ€ve never worked with. It would be nice to have what would feel like some sort of semblance of a dream match with those guys, because itâ€s a match by two tag teams that have been around for both very long times, done a lot of cool stuff, and we can finally have a match with one another, which would be cool.
“And I love the fact that New Day now are different. They kicked Big E out. Theyâ€re kind of heels and bad guys. So thatâ€s interesting, intriguing. And thereâ€ll be more, as time continues to take on. Thereâ€ll be more new tag teams they continue to make.â€
Matt and Jeff recently worked against DarkState in WWE NXT. The duo won the NXT Tag Team Titles from them before dropping them back to them a few weeks later in a Broken Rules match at Halloween Havoc.
