Lance Anoaâ€i parted ways with WWE last month after a series of injuries marred his run there and now Lance has clarified that he was actually released.
While speaking to MuscleManMalcolm, Lance Anoaâ€i explained that his WWE exit wasnâ€t a case of his contract expiring; he still had two years left, but the company chose to release him.
Lance said he felt fortunate for the time he spent there and learned a lot, but injuries worked against him and ultimately affected his career. Once he got the call, he knew he had to get back to working hard outside the company.
“Uh, so it wasnâ€t renewing my contract — it was releasing me from my contract. I still had another two years on my contract. I found out… man, I forget the day, because from that moment on, I knew it was right back to the grind. And man, I was blessed to be there. I was happy to be there. I learned a lot. Unfortunately, injuries werenâ€t on my side, so it killed me. But, you know, just keep going, man.â€
When asked if he faced any backlash during his time in WWE, especially because of his injuries, he said the setbacks were the main reason things didnâ€t work out. Back-to-back injuries made him more expensive to keep than he was able to contribute in the ring.
“I think the injuries are what cost me everything. I cost the company more money than what I was making them. I was one of the older ones there, back-to-back injuries.â€
His first week at the Performance Center, he suffered a sports hernia, then after briefly being cleared, he tore his shoulder. Even though he was cleared again at the end of September, he was released in October.
“I had a sports hernia my first week at the PC. I know I read online that I was hurt going in — no, I got hurt in the Performance Center. It was something real dumb, like God telling me, maybe not yet. I got cleared for three weeks and then tore my shoulder right after that. I got cleared at the end of September and then released in October.â€
Lance made it clear that there was no negativity from WWE toward him; everyone supported him and hoped heâ€d recover, but circumstances simply worked against him.
“But there was no criticism. Everybody was rooting for me to come back and be ready — unfortunately things happened, man.â€
Lance Anoaâ€iâ€s time in WWE ended sooner than he hoped, but heâ€s choosing to look at it as motivation instead of a setback. Even though injuries got in the way, heâ€s still grateful for what he learned and ready to keep moving forward. So weâ€ll have to see what the future holds for the Bloodline family member.
Did WWE give up on Lance Anoaâ€i too soon due to injury, or was it the right business move? Sound off in the comments.
