[HOUR ONE]
-They opened with an excellent angle of the small venue from the upper deck as Excalibur introduced the show. Then they went right to the angle where “Hangman” Page, dressed as Tony Schiavone, attacked Samoa Joe. He said that led to tonight’s six-man tag match.
-Tony Schiavone stood mid-ring for what Excalibur said was “a very special announcement.” He said AEW Full Gear will include “a new national champion.” He was interrupted by Samoa Joe’s music. Samoa Joe walked out with Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs. He apologized for the interruption. “Houston, we have a problem,” he said. Joe directed his comments at Schiavone. Joe said Schiavone is probably going to deny he was part of the deception last week, but he doesn’t believe him. Schiavone started to explain himself. He said he respects Joe a lot. Joe cut him off with a loud “Shut up!” He said consequences have come for him. Bryan Danielson said, “This isn’t right.”
As The Opps entered the ring, Excalibur said Schiavone was having maybe too much Halloween fun at the expense of The Opps, but he didn’t think he knew Hangman was going to his Joe with the bottle. Security ran to the ring. Joe said this just meant more people were going to get hurt. “Hangman” Page ran out for the save. The Opps dropped to ringside. Joe said this worked out well since they can take care of two problems at once. As they entered the ring again, Hook and Eddie Kingston ran out to even the odds. The Opps bailed out again.
Hangman said he is Joe’s problem. Hook told The Opps to put their Trios Title belts on the line against them tonight. Joe yelled, “You don’t talk to me that way.” Hobbs had to hold him back. Joe said it’s on, frothing at the mouth and red-faced. Hangman smiled. Schiavones aid Tony Khan just made it official that the main event will be for the Trios Titles.
-Excalibur called that “a blockbuster announcement,” but not the one they were planning. He said Joe seems “gotten-to.” Hangman’s music played as he, Hook, and Kingston left the ring.
(Keller’s Analysis: They can pretend the Trios Titles being put at stake in the main event is a big deal, but the Trios Titles are not a big deal. I did like them addressing Schiavone’s obvious cooperation with Hangman impersonating him last week to gain some sort of “element of surprise” advantage so he could attack Joe from behind last week. I kind of feel like I’m just going to agree with Tony Khan that the more titles there are, the more successful and entertaining AEW will be. It’s too painful to speak out against it because it has become a parody at this point.)
(1) ORANGE CASSIDY vs. CLAUDIO CASTANOLI – Blood & Guts Advantage Battle
Excalibur explained the format of a Blood & Guts match and that this match will contribute to deciding which team enters third after the first five minute one-on-one period. Cassidy leaped at Claudio at ringside during his ring entrance twice. Schiavone said the one-man advantage is so important “because it gives you the one-man advantage during the entire match.” (That’s not really true in the sense that half of the match is even and the other half has a one-man advantage since the numbers are evened out every two minutes.) Claudio took over quickly. The bell rang 13 minutes into the hour.
Cassidy dove through the ropes at minute in, but Claudio caught him and dropped him abdomen-first over the ringside barricade. Claudio then lifted Cassidy in a vertical suplex position, walked up the steps, and threw him into the ring. Claudio gave Cassidy a Giant Swing and send him to the floor. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
Claudio tossed Cassidy to the mat. Cassidy put his hands in his pockets. Claudio lifted him into the corner and gave him an uppercut. Cassidy stood on the second rope and put his hands in his pockets. He then took Claudio down with a head scissors takedown and a dropkick followed by a kip up. He ducked a Claudio uppercut into a backslide for a two count. He landed a PK and then pursued Claudio at ringside with a tornado DDT at ringside. Fans chanted, “Freshly squeezed!”
Claudio took over and applied a crossface mid-ring. He landed a running uppercut to a sitting Cassidy for a two count. Cassidy caught Claudio with a Stun Dog Millionaire out of the corner. He charged for an Orange Punch, but Claudio caught him with an uppercut. He followed up with a lift-and-drop European Uppercut for a clean win.
Excalibur said now Darby must beat Daniel Garcia and Roderick Strong must beat Jon Moxley to earn the advantage at Blood & Guts next week on Dynamite.
WINNER: Claudio in 12:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: Good match.)
-Renee Paquette interviewed Mark Briscoe, Kyle Fletcher, and Don Callis. Renee said they agreed to no physicality. She said Briscoe asked for this time. Briscoe said it can’t feel fulfilling for Fletcher to have won with a low kick. He compared it to making out with your sister. He asked Fletcher for another match with no DQ rules at ull Gear. Fletcher told Callis he might really like that. Callis said he seemed turned on. He said he loves making Fletcher happy. He told Briscoe he needs something from him. Briscoe asked if he wanted it to be “title vs. career.” Callis said he would never want his career to end prematurely. He said if he loses to Fletcher at Full Gear, he will leave The Conglomeration and join The Don Callis Family. He told him to make it about him instead of family back home. Briscoe cut him off and called him a snake. He said he isn’t losing, so he agreed to the stipulation.
-Renee interviewed The Young Bucks, Don Callis, and Josh Alexander backstage. She asked the Bucks if they were now in The Don Callis Family. Callis said if it takes every last penny in his bank account, they will be treated the way they deserve. The rest of the active Don Callis Family entered. Callis introduced Kazuchika Okada. Matt Jackson said they need more time. Okada told them not to take too much time, and then he winked. Nick Jackson looked nervously toward Matt.
-Excalibur reviewed the AEW Womens’ Tag Team Title tournament. He noted that Queen Aminata suffered an injury in their loss to The Sisters of Sin in the first round.
