Jon Rahm says LIV team victory removes ‘asterisk’ from winless season

In the final event of the LIV Golf season, Jon Rahm finally found himself atop the podium.

After a season in which the Spaniard failed to earn a single individual title, Rahm (along with his Legion XIII teammates) will still head into the offseason soaked in champagne after winning the season-long team title at LIV Michigan on Sunday.

The team title comes a week after Rahm claimed the individual season-long crown at LIV Indianapolis, which generated plenty of controversy. As previously mentioned, Rahm did not earn a single individual tournament win in his 2025 campaign. But despite this lack of hardware, his consistency (11 top 10s in 12 starts) was enough to earn the necessary points to surpass Joaquin Niemann‘s total, which was buoyed by five wins of his own.

Many pundits questioned the legitimacy of Rahm’s season-long title without any individual wins to his name. But after helping his Legion XIII squad win the team title, he believes the controversy can be put to bed.

“If there was ever a question mark or an asterisk for having won the whole season without winning, in my mind, with this it goes away,” he said. “It’s a lot of validation for all of us, in my mind, for the team, just how well we did all year, and to get it done, stressful, but we got it done, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Rahm’s squad beat Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC in a playoff Sunday. The win marks Legion XIII’s first team championship after its expansion season in 2024, and caps a season in which Rahm, along with teammates Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin and Caleb Surratt, won five times as a team.

“It was really fun to do and fun to be a part of,” Rahm said. “I wouldn’t want to share this moment with anybody else.”

Rahm may not have hoisted a trophy by himself in 2025, but doing so over and over again as a part of a team makes for one heck of a consolation prize.

“It’s a wonderful feeling,” Rahm said. “It’s been a long year. I’m happy I finally won a playoff, and I couldn’t be prouder of all of them.”
