The recently announced WWE John Cena Last Time Is Now tournament was criticized by a Hall of Famer.
On the November 1 episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event, it was announced that WWE will hold a 16-man tournament to determine John Cena’s opponent for his retirement match on the December 13 edition of SNME. The Last Time Is Now tournament will kick off next week on RAW in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts.
The tournament received mixed reactions, with Bully Ray being one of the names who didn’t like the idea of the tournament. In the recent Busted Open episode, the WWE Hall of Famer shared that Vince McMahon would hate the tournament, as he is not a fan of the concept as well.
Bully added that although he liked the tournament, it would depend on the case. For this one, he doesn’t like it as there is no longer the shock factor of who will be John Cena’s final opponent, as they would already be featured regularly in the tournament.
I did not share Vince’s opinion on tournaments, but in this case, I’m not a fan of the tournament unless, unless there is somebody involved in this tournament that we don’t see coming, but they’re going to have to wrestle in the first round. So we’re going to see them coming.”

The WWE Hall of Famer pointed out in John’s tournament vignette that he wanted to face stars who can stand up to the challenge, like what he did with Kurt Angle when he debuted in 2002.
Bully used Edge, for example, who many fans wanted to be Cena’s final opponent. If the AEW star were truly the final opponent, fans wouldn’t be shocked when his theme song plays at SNME in December due to him competing in the tournament.
Bully Ray Thinks John Cena Has Somebody In Mind That He Wants To Face As His Final WWE Opponent
In the same episode, Bully Ray thinks that deep down, John has somebody that he wants to face and become the new guy of WWE. However, it’s unknown if his choice will be taken into consideration.
I’m sure that John Cena in his heart of hearts has somebody that he wants to see be the guy, the chosen one, the hand picked one, whether or not this is actually going to be allowed. I don’t really know. I think John has been a big player in who his opponents have been up until this point. But this is going to determine where this has the opportunity to determine somebody’s definitive future in this company.”
It remains to be seen who will be John Cena’s final WWE opponent.
