John Cena and one of his WWE partners apparently had a rather tense moment, which changed the latter’s perception of Cena forever.
Back in 2010, The Cenation Leader had teamed up with David Otunga for a match on WWE RAW, where the duo took on the Big Show and The Miz. Considering Show and The A-Lister were the Tag Team Champions at the time, it was a high-profile match. However, a particular moment had Cena and Otunga falling out of sync, which led to a botched moment on the ropes. This apparently made John Cena livid to the point where he started hurling abuses at Otunga right in the arena.
Afterwards, the verbal tirade apparently continued backstage, with John Cena cussing out Otunga. According to the former Nexus star, he was not at fault for the botch, a feeling that was shared by Goldust as well. Nevertheless, Cena’s behavior at the time upset Otunga greatly, and he even considered quitting the business.
David Otunga Explains The Incident With The WWE Legend
Speaking about the whole day on his YouTube Channel, David Otunga even said that he would have preferred a physical altercation rather than facing the verbal abuse he had to endure.
Otunga confidently said that if the WWE legend had gotten physical in his anger, the real-life fight would not have lasted long, and he would have beaten down The Franchise Player easily:
Now [John] Cena only got physical with me in the ring. ‘Cause when we came backstage, it was just verbal and emotional abuse in front of everybody. But he knew better than to put his hands on me then. Imma tell you right now. If John Cena put his hands on me backstage, I would have beat the dog sh*t out of John Cena and fast. Actually, it probably just would have been better if it was just a physical altercation, ’cause at least I could have ended things quickly.

The incident certainly left a mark on Otunga, who has not forgotten about the WWE legend’s behavior even to this day.
