John Cena does not he think fans will remember him shortly after his retirement.
On the December 13th edition of Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event, John Cena is scheduled to compete in his final-ever wrestling match. However, just days before the event, Cena claimed that fans will forget him soon after he hangs up his boots. Appearing on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Cena explained his thoughts.
“Iâ€m gonna retire on the 13th, they will be moved on by the Royal Rumble,” he added. “That is real facts, I will be forgotten. That is not a plea to sympathy of like ‘always remember me.†By the Royal Rumble, the road to WrestleMania, nobody gives a fck, ‘cause theyâ€re focusing on what the show is. Thatâ€s like 3 weeks after I retire, 3 weeks after I retire, nobodyâ€s going to give a fck.â€
In about a week, Cena will face either Gunther or LA Knight, depending on who wins the Last Time is Now tournament finals.
While Cena’s comments reflect pro-wrestling’s reality, the same cannot be said of the veteran. With over two decades of experience, 17 World Championships, and multiple other talents, Cena will be leaving behind a legacy which is both hard to match and forget.
John Cena speaks out the reasons for his retirement
Recently, appearing in an interview with Bill Simmons, he opened up about his reasons to retire.
“This is something that Iâ€ve heard a lot this past year. Man, you are going out on your own terms. Thatâ€s bulls**t. I want to do it forever.”
“But, my body hurts, Iâ€m a step slower. I promised myself and the fanbase when I started before I won that first championship, when I am a step slower, Iâ€m out.”
