John Cena is leaving WWE, and he is doing it as the Greatest of All Time. He is also a grand slam champion.
The November 10 episode of WWE RAW took place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and featured John Cenaâ€s final appearance in his hometown before his retirement match in December. This was also a big night, because wrestled a match he wasnâ€t planning on.
During John Cenaâ€s opening promo, Dominik Mysterio interrupted. Dominik confronted Triple H about his celebration being interrupted the previous week, then turned his attention back to Cena, warning him to stay quiet or get taken out. Of course, Dom has already prodded Cena during his media this week.
John Cena responded by telling Dominik he had no chance in Boston and offered him a chance to walk away out of respect for his father. Dominik refused, claiming he is already better than Cena ever was. The two faced off as the crowd reacted loudly. Triple H then stepped in and confirmed that Dominik would get what he asked for, announcing an Intercontinental Title match between Cena and Dominik for later that night.
This IC Title match was on, and fans in Boston loved every moment of it. Dom jumped Cena during the introductions before the match started, and then Dom proceeded to maintain control for a bit. They wrestled through a commercial break and then the referee took a bump as John Cena mounted his comeback and got an STF, and Dom tapped, but no referee was there to ring the bell.
John Cena hit an AA after that, and another referee came down to count a near fall. Dom nailed a frog splash after that, but Cena rolled through and hit an AA for the win to pick up the IC Championship.
Prior to tonight, John Cena held 14 WWE Championships and 3 World Heavyweight Championships. He also won the United States Title 5 times, the WWE Tag Team Titles, and the World Tag Team Titles twice. Now he has added the IC Title to that list, which cements him even more in WWE history.
