Jim Ross spent several years in WWE before making his way to AEW, but a lot of his content from his WWE days is still on Peacock. So, fans have been wondering if Ross actually gets royalties for his content and now Good ol’ JR has revealed if he does get royalties.

While speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Conrad Thompson asked Jim Ross if he or other wrestlers ever received royalties for their old work in the WWE content library, noting that much of Ross’s commentary is still available on Peacock.

Ross explained that he does not receive royalties for that material and has no plans to pursue legal action. Instead, he talked about how each company he has worked for has helped him become smarter in contract negotiations.

Ross credited Barry Bloom and his agent for teaching him how to secure new income streams and take advantage of opportunities, recognizing that nothing in wrestling lasts forever.

“No, I do not. Okay—so what are we going to do, sue them? No, of course not. Get a good lawyer and cause a calamity? No. I’ve always believed that with every company I’ve worked for, I’ve gotten smarter in how I negotiate. Barry Bloom has educated me—and my agent has educated me—a lot in that area. You’re always looking for ways to secure new money, create new money, take advantage of new opportunities—because you never know how long something is going to last.”

Ross added that both AEW and WWE have developed ways for talent to earn extra income and build financial stability. He believes this system motivates performers to work harder and provides a good way to increase earnings over time.

“But I think, in fairness, across all this—major AEW and WWE—I think they’ve created ways for talent to make extra cash and accumulate more funds, which is extremely motivational. And I think the talents appreciate the new income and work harder to earn more of it. So—it’s a pretty cool deal.”

Jim Ross signed a new deal with AEW last month and will remain with the company for another year, but many people feel he really should get paid for his content on Peacock. Regardless, the WWE Hall of Famer clearly isn’t bothered by the lack of royalties and perhaps that’s for the best.
