The Winnipeg Jets suffered two blows to their starting lineup in their final pre-season tilt.
Defenceman Dylan DeMelo exited in the first period, before forward Cole Perfetti left at the end of the second frame during a game against the Calgary Flames on Friday night.
DeMelo was seen walking down the tunnel to the dressing room after taking a stick up high from Blake Coleman and did not return for the start of the second or third periods.
Perfetti also did not return for the beginning of the third, after recording 8:29 of ice time over the first two frames. His last shift came as time expired for in the second period.
Jets head coach Scott Arniel said on the 680CJOB post-game show that Perfetti has a lower-body injury that “doesnâ€t look great” at first glance. The centre will be re-evaluated.
DeMelo, 32, is set to enter his 11th NHL season and seventh with Winnipeg. He scored three goals and added 16 assists while playing in all 82 games for the Jets in 2024-25. The blue-liner hasn’t missed a game for two consecutive seasons.
Perfetti is entering his fifth season with the club after they selected him 10th overall in 2020. The 23-year-old forward has 125 points (47 goals, 78 assists) in 222 career games.
