Texas A&M maintained its undefeated record with a dramatic comeback win over South Carolina on Saturday and then earned a major recruiting victory Sunday.
Recruiting insider Hayes Fawcett reported safety JayQuan Snell chose the Aggies over Ohio State and Texas:
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Snell is a 5-star prospect, the No. 36 overall player and the No. 4 safety in the 2027 class.
“It’s just the way they recruit me,” Snell said of Texas A&M, per Joseph Hastings of 247Sports. “The way the coaches reach out to me and the relationships we’ve built, it’s just one of one.”
He continued and said, “Coach Mike Elko, he’s a defensive-minded coach. That’s something I would love to be a part of. He knows what he’s talking about. I trust him around my family. He treats my family right. It’s just a great place.”
At this point, the Aggies are rolling on the field and on the recruiting trail.
They are 10-0 and No. 3 in the country with two games remaining in the regular season. Even if they split their final two games against Samford and Texas, that should be enough to clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff.
As for recruiting, they are No. 1 in the country in the early 2027 rankings, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. Elko seems to be building a sustainable powerhouse in the SEC, and Snell is just the latest positive development.
Snell also competes in track and field, so his speed and athleticism should stand out at the next level. He also tallied more than 100 tackles in his freshman and sophomore seasons, indicating he should be able to come up and provide support against the run if needed.
He checks plenty of boxes as a prospect and figures to be a key piece in the Aggies’ secondary for years to come.
