    IPL Winners Year by Year: A Complete List:The IPL (Indian Premier League) is a T20 cricket league in India, which was founded in 2007 and is now run by the BCCI. The IPL is played in a T20 format and is held annually between March and May. The first ever IPL match was played between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

    As of 2025, the IPL has 10 teams. The Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings have won the IPL trophy 5 times each and are two of the most successful teams in the IPL. The 2025 IPL was won by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, when they defeated the Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium to win their first IPL trophy. Now, let’s take a detailed look at the year by year winners of the IPL Trophy.

    IPL Winners Year by Year: A Complete List

    The Rajasthan Royals won the first IPL tournament under the captaincy of Shane Warne. The Rajasthan Royals defeated the Chennai Super Kings by three wickets in the 2008 IPL finals. Throughout the years, seven teams in the IPL have won the trophy, including the Chennai Super Kings. CSK has won the IPL trophy 5 times under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians have also won the IPL trophy 5 times under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. 

    Kolkata Knight Riders have won the IPL tournament 3 times, they won their two trophies under the captaincy of Gautam Ghambir in 2012 and 2014. They won their most recent IPL trophy under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer when they defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 IPL Finals. The list of single-time IPL champions features Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
