The story around Nixon Newell and Miranda Alizeâ€s AEW walkout just took a sharp turn. While Nixon Newell insisted there was “no bad blood†after the two walked away from their scheduled match on AEW Collision, a new update from Wrestling Observer Radio paints a completely different picture.
During her Twitch stream, Newell explained that she and Alize politely declined to wrestle after learning their tag match with Anna Jay and Tay Melo was being cut down to just three minutes. She said their decision was made out of respect for everyone involved.
“It was all done respectfully. It was never an ego thing about 3 minutes. It was that it wasnâ€t going to be good for anyone in the match. There is no bad blood. The people involved know the truth. There are receipts, but weâ€re not going to show them.â€
However, Dave Meltzer isnâ€t buying it. On the November 10 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer pushed back hard on Newellâ€s version of events, claiming that despite what she said publicly, there was bad blood backstage after the incident.
“I can tell you that thatâ€s not true. Maybe Tony told them there were no hard feelings, but there were so many people that were like, ‘What a stupid thing to do.†Thatâ€s the one thing I heard over and over.â€
According to Meltzer, the reaction behind the scenes was overwhelmingly negative, with many in AEW viewing the decision as a major mistake—especially since Newell and Alize arenâ€t under contract and had little leverage to begin with.
“Theyâ€re not under contract. If you want to do something there, first get over. There are people who can get away with things because they have leverage… they had no leverage.â€
Meltzer added that while Newell and Alize simply wanted more time to wrestle, the show layout didnâ€t allow it, and AEW quietly replaced them in the lineup.
“They wanted to have a competitive 10-minute match, but the show was laid out and they didnâ€t have 10 minutes for them. And that was that.â€
Following the walkout, Maya World and Hyan were slotted in as replacements. Meltzer noted that AEW has no plans to bring Newell or Alize back.
“All I know is I do not expect these two to be booked in AEW.â€
So, despite Nixon Newellâ€s claim that things ended respectfully, Meltzerâ€s update makes it clear that the situation left a sour taste behind the scenes. AEW reportedly isnâ€t interested in working with the duo again, and the door might already be closed for good.
