The Carolina Hurricanes appear to have avoided a worst-case scenario with one of their young stars.
Forward Seth Jarvis was on the ice skating Friday, albeit with no gear, just hours after leaving Thursday’s game against the New York Islanders with a lower-body injury.
Jarvis exited the 6-2 win late in the third period after blocking a shot from Kyle Palmieri.
He was unable to return to his feet on his own power after an icing call stopped play and did not return for another shift. He had recorded 17:49 of total ice time with one shot on before exiting.
Head coach Rod Brind’Amour told reporters post-game that it “doesn’t look great” and that the team would have more information on Friday.
Jarvis was also banged up earlier in the third period when Alexander Romanov and Scott Mayfield laid hits on him inside the Islanders’ crease.
The 23-year-old has racked up seven goals and four assists in 10 contests so far this season and has netted 103 goals and 121 assists in the 313 games since he was drafted 13th overall in 2020 by the Hurricanes.
Jarvis was a member of Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off roster that captured gold over the United States and is on the radar to crack the team for the upcoming 2026 Olympics in Milan.
Carolina came into the contest already missing defencemen Jaccob Slavin, K’Andre Miller and Shayne Gostisbehere.
