Goldberg didnâ€t hold back when reliving a moment from what may have been his final wrestling match—and it involved a chop that left him laughing in the middle of the ring.
The WWE Hall of Famer spoke on Real Talk with Mike Burkeabout the adrenaline rush he experienced during the match. At 58 years old, he pushed himself to the limit, even performing moves he hadnâ€t done in years. But when it came time to take one of wrestlingâ€s most iconic strikes—the chop—his reaction surprised even himself.
Goldberg said he knew it was coming and braced for impact. But instead of selling the pain, he started laughing uncontrollably.
“When he hit me with it, I started laughing. I just couldnâ€t control myself. No, I swear to God, I didnâ€t do it to demean him or the move. It just instantly… I caught myself going, ‘Man, that wasnâ€t sh*t.â€â€
He made it clear there was no disrespect intended toward Gunther. In fact, he went out of his way to praise him.
“He was a great kid. One of the nicest kids youâ€re ever going to meet—in or out of the ring. He took great care of me. It was the second longest match I think I ever had.â€
Despite the humor in the moment, Goldberg gave Gunther full credit and showed genuine appreciation for how the match went down. Goldberg might be stepping away from the ring, but heâ€s not done telling stories—and moments like this prove heâ€s going out with no filter.
