Former WWE Star Says The Rock Chose To Work With Him

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal says The Rock handpicked him to work a segment on RAW in 2024.

Raj Dhesi may no longer be associated with WWE, but he can proudly say he shared the ring with The Final Boss. The former Jinder Mahal was involved in a memorable promo segment with The Great One on the RAW Day 1 TV special in 2024.

Mahal was in the middle of cutting a heel promo when he was interrupted by The Rock. The verbal confrontation turned physical as both men exchanged blows until Rocky shifted the momentum with a spinebuster followed by a Peopleâ€s Elbow.

During a recent appearance on Click and Tell, Jinder Mahal recalled his experience working with The Rock. He also revealed that the Peopleâ€s Champion picked him from a list of superstars for their promo.

“He left me a voice note, and I met with him at his hotel room because he was going to arrive right before and surprise everyone,†Mahal said. “When people come early, people see them, and then it goes all over the internet and the surprise is ruined. So he wasnâ€t going to be at the arena all day. They secretly took me to his hotel room.

“When I went to his hotel room, he told me they gave him a list of eight or nine people, and he picked me. He said, ‘I knew I could do a good promo with you.†I was like, ‘Yeah, awesome.â€

Jinder Mahal says The Rock thanked him after their segment

“So whatever, we go through the promo, and then the next time I saw him was in the ring. He left me a voice note the next day after, because he was so busy recording everything, etc. We took that quick picture with the thumbs up and that was it. I went my way, he went his.

“The next day he sent me a voicemail just thanking me. You know, it was great to be back, etc. And he said, ‘Youâ€ll be seeing me a lot more often now that Iâ€m doing things across the board.†And then the next day he joined the board of directors. So he left me a little bit of a hint.â€

Raj Dhesi has been active on the independent circuit after his second WWE release in 2024. He recently underwent knee surgery to remove two loose bodies and trim his meniscus. Fans can read more about his recovery here.
