When he was in WWE, Mr. Kennedy was one of the company’s top prospects, having beaten top stars such as The Undertaker, and was even slated to become a World Champion. However, his momentum was delayed when he suffered an injury while being the Men’s Money In The Bank winner.
This shift of momentum, coupled with complaints about him backstage, led to his release from World Wrestling Entertainment in 2009. While multiple factors led to his ousting from the Stamford-based promotion, Kennedy laid the majority of the blame on John Cena and Randy Orton.
Kennedy had remained bitter about his release, even after having a successful career outside of World Wrestling Entertainment, and left no opportunity to bury Orton during interviews. However, it seems his stance has changed over time, and he recently shared that he wanted to squash his beef with The Viper.
Mr.Kennedy Talks Squashing Beef With Randy Orton, Shares Details Of Meeting Him At A WWE RAW Taping
Mr. Kennedy shared his thoughts about wanting to clear the air with Randy Orton during a recent interview with Championship Sports Blog. He shared that he had hated John Cena and The Apex Predator for years, but over the years had realized that being resentful was affecting him rather than them. He said:
“Oh yeah, for sure. For sure. There were years where I hated those guys. But then one day I realized that me hating them doesnâ€t do anything. They donâ€t care. The only person that hurts is me. They always say hating somebody is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.â€
The conversation then moved to the time he was spotted backstage during a RAW taping in 2020. When asked if he was there for any specific reason, the 49-year-old shared that he still had many friends in the company whom he had gone to meet.
He then shared that he met Orton there, stating the two had a long, friendly conversation, and while they did not talk about their issues, Kennedy stated that he would want to sit down and clear the air with The Viper. He said:
“I still have friends who work there. And yeah, I happened to run into Orton. We didnâ€t talk about the incident, but we had a 45-minute conversation, and it was fine. Iâ€d like to sit down with him at some point and just clear the air.â€

Kennedy has stated in the past that he wanted to build the bridge again with World Wrestling Entertainment and was always open to return, and with him wanting to get closure with those he had issues with in the past, and with him returning to TNA recently, it seems that him making an appearance for the Stamford-based promotion could be a real possibility in the near future.
